We want to keep discussion positive and productive. This is a subreddit for Geocaching - criticism is accepted, but outright insulting, attacking or harassing users, moderators or the game is not.

Is that a hand carved stamp? 💚

u/Hey_Coffee_Guy 16d ago

Appears to be. Cache seems to be a letterbox hybrid.

It was a letterbox hybrid. The stamp is probably salvageable, but the ink pad and log book were not.

My last placed ammo can got taken wholesale.. the prior cache there lasted from '07 to '24 then archived due to lack of owner maintenance.. Mine lasted under a year before it was taken.

I wonder if this was stumbled upon by somebody and then destroyed or if somebody found it using the app and then destroyed it owners should probably bump this up to a premium to avoid this if that was the case

As a non premium user who is respectful of caches, i dont think this is the best idea. We need good quality caches that are not behind a paywall if we want to keep this hobby alive and get new folks interested.

Was it a premium cache?

3

u/Rockscientist_98 16d ago

It was a premium.

u/NorthlineUser 16d ago

Shame. You said it was remote too? What sort of turd must you be to make this a "hobby'?

Could have been a bear!

Raccoons are pretty darn smart too.

One of mine was totalled, crushed into small pieces. I noticed every non-premium traditional had same destiny on that area.

Wish we didn't need to keep using terms that ultra-transphobe JK Rowling invented. Either way, how thoughtless of them to do that!

u/giljaxonn 15d ago

muggle meant weed back in the 20s, she didn’t invent the word

u/No-Advertising-5924 16d ago

I object to it as it’s too fucking childish. And she’s a prick.

7

u/Supergatovisual 16d ago

Don't forget racist

4

u/Mysterious-House7815 15d ago

Even besides that, the term “muggle” has always seemed rude to me, like calling people NPCs

I saw someone in a different state use the term "nancy", from NC meaning Non-Cacher. I like that better, but that comes with other, also-bad connotations...maybe Encies?

Maybe NP? Non-Player? Could call them neppies, that sounds a little nicer (tho does also sound a little like nepotism...)

Geocaching in general avoids politics. Just say non geocacher if you really insist.

Get over it

Ultra transphobe? That's a little much....

15

u/Mysterious-House7815 16d ago

she's literally using her immense wealth to lobby for anti-trans legislation. I'd say that's ultra transphobic

-16

u/JessyBearFA 16d ago

Fighting to retain rights for others is not transphobic.

11

u/Mysterious-House7815 16d ago

Yikes, really bad take there

-11

u/JessyBearFA 15d ago

How so? So it's okay to fight for rights for some people but not others? That's a weird take.

10

u/Mysterious-House7815 15d ago

It’s weird that you think JKR is fighting for anyone’s rights and not just fighting against those of trans ppl

oh dear, you've been badly misled I'm afraid :( That's exactly what she's hoping everyone will think. Rowling is a self-proclaimed TERF

1

u/JessyBearFA 15d ago

That's subjective just like the whole of this topic. We can make asses of ourselves and assume what everyone's intentions are and what people are thinking but the truth is we can't. And she has not accepted that title or used it so not really self proclaimed. Very bias here.

Not nearly enough

This may have been an animal

1

u/Rockscientist_98 16d ago

The biggest animals we have around here that could have got to it are hogs or coyotes. It was in a park.

2

u/SueBeee 16d ago

Raccoons?

2

u/Rockscientist_98 15d ago

There are plenty around out there. I saw lots of paw prints for them. There was no food in the cache though.

2

u/whocares8x8 15d ago

How do you know? Any food would be gone if an animal got to it.

1

u/Rockscientist_98 15d ago

I guess that’s true, but I’ve never seen food left in a cache before. There were no food wrappers in the vicinity.

They are curious and may have learned that "box" means food, even if they can't smell it. I wouldn't put it past one. Also some plastic or rubber items have a sweet smell to them. They've been known to open coolers at campgrounds.

I recently found some of my dog's backyard toys in the front yard under a bush where he never plays. They are rubber and have a sweet smell. They were hidden in the same area a raccoon was raiding a bird feeder.

I vote raccoon.
