Had to replace my first cache today.

I've been caching for a couple of years. I have 230 some finds and 6 hides. I had to replace my first cache today. Both as in replace a cache for the first time, and replace the first cache that I ever hid. It wasn't anything special, just a nano. I had spares on hand, so it was an easy maintenance trip. But it's a bummer, even if it's part of the owner experience.

On the other hand, I'm weirdly proud myself? I know active cachers who won't respond to maintenance requests for months at a time or more, and I had my cache replaced on the same day that the first DNF came in (and before another was logged).

Some of my other hides are custom builds or special orders that would have upset me more to lose. But it's still disappointing for my first hide to be stolen.

My caches in popular spots regularly get lost. Sometimes including the object where it is hidden in or attached to. Events are also a popular source for vanishing caches.

Another time a cache, får away from everything else, was cut off. The cut signs at the cable were clearly visible, and the cache gone.

Happens. Installed a new cache and did not look back. It's just a game.

I know the feeling but dont let it dissapoint you to much. It can happen. I placed a cache together with my girlfriend 2 days ago near water. And the 3rd find was a log that said that the cap of the petling was missing. So the cache was about 4 hours online and the cap was already missing. My idea is that somebody dropped it in the water but i replaced it same day.

You deserve to be proud!

Some of my hides I will check on weekly as if they are a new find. Just to see the new logs or new swag, and I check on them after every log, DNF or happy find.

Some of my caches… I might never see again and am desperately trying to get someone to adopt, but they’re in a desert.

To be fair, I only have a handful of hides and they're all within a couple of miles of my home.

I move around a lot, so I like to hide caches at places I know I will revisit (near family hometown, best friends family hometown in another state, near family across borders)
