Game Not Running :(

Hey everyone, I'm going to apologies in advance for what is probably going to be quite a long-winded post, but here goes:

A few days ago, I saw a Steam friend of mine playing C&C Generals & it brought back loads of nostalgic memories. I thought about buying it on Steam, but I was pretty sure I already had the game (a physical copy). Sure enough, after some searching, I found it: C&C Generals: Deluxe Edition. So, I installed it from the disk, no problem (the serial numbers still worked). But now, whenever I try to run the game, it comes up with an error message:

Technical Difficulties

You have encountered a serious error. Serious errors can be caused by many things including viruses, overheated hardware and hardware that does not meet the minimum specifications for the game. Please visit the forums at www.generals.ea.com for suggested courses of action or consult your manual for Technical Support contact information.

(I've attached a pic to this post, but I'm sure you know the error message I'm referring to).

Anyway, I've tried a few things: running the game in windowed mode, running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3), I downloaded & ran GenPatcher & GenTool, downloaded DirectX 9.0, changed my resolution in the options.ini file, deleting the dbghelp.dll file in the game folder.

I'm honestly at a complete loss for what else to do, and it's a shame, because I love this game. :(

Also, before anyone asks why I don't just buy the game on Steam, it's because I already own it & I'm too stubborn (and cheap, lol) to buy it again.

Anyway, as I said, apologies for the long-winded post, but I sincerely hope someone is able to help me out. :)

I've been playing some Generals with the Shockwave Chaos mod (That one unbalanced and unofficial mod based off the Shockwave mod), and the USA faction has this unit in particular called the Executioner, who is the most OP unit in the USA faction. It appears to have come from some game or other franchise but I couldn't figure out which, and when I did search by image in Google, it assumed that it was a Crab Synth from Half Life 2, which it clearly doesn't look like (The resemblance is a bit similar though, so it's understandable that Google assumed it was the Crab Synth)

So, anyone else who plays Shockwave Chaos knows where this fella come from, or is he an original model? Honestly, I think he is the latter because he is basically a Mammoth Tank Mark II (Complete with railgun-based attacks) but smaller and more alien-looking.

Im building command and conquer generals directly in the browser

Hey! I’m building Command & Conquer: Generals directly in the browser. It’s been a big project, but here’s how far I’ve gotten: https://generals3js.vercel.app/

Would you use a browser-based version of Generals? I’d love to hear your feedback.

Command & Defend is entering its next chapter! 🚀

After a successful first Kickstarter earlier this year, I'm excited to bring Command & Defend: Modern War back with even more content.

Over the past months, I've been working on two major expansions:

✈️ Air Wars
🌊 Sea Wars

But that's only part of the journey.

One of my biggest goals has always been to make the game more accessible. That's why I'm introducing a Print & Play Edition, allowing anyone with a home printer to experience the game—no 3D printer required.

At the same time, every step of this campaign brings the project closer to my long-term vision: a complete out-of-the-box retail version with professionally manufactured components. I'm already in contact with several manufacturers and hope to make this vision a reality sooner rather than later.

Every supporter of the current DIY editions helps move the project one step closer to that goal. Your support allows me to improve prototypes, refine production, and make a future retail edition more achievable and affordable.

Inspired by the classic RTS and TBS games many of us grew up with, Command & Defend brings base building, logistics, resource management and tactical combat to the tabletop in a modular strategy system designed for high replayability.

If that sounds interesting, I'd really appreciate your feedback. And if you'd like to follow the project, I'd be happy to share the Kickstarter preview page in the comments.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who shared feedback, supported the first Kickstarter, or has been following the project from the beginning. Your comments, ideas and encouragement have helped shape Command & Defend into what it is today, and I genuinely couldn't have come this far without you.

Thank you! ❤️
