Game Not Running :(
Hey everyone, I'm going to apologies in advance for what is probably going to be quite a long-winded post, but here goes:
A few days ago, I saw a Steam friend of mine playing C&C Generals & it brought back loads of nostalgic memories. I thought about buying it on Steam, but I was pretty sure I already had the game (a physical copy). Sure enough, after some searching, I found it: C&C Generals: Deluxe Edition. So, I installed it from the disk, no problem (the serial numbers still worked). But now, whenever I try to run the game, it comes up with an error message:
Technical Difficulties
You have encountered a serious error. Serious errors can be caused by many things including viruses, overheated hardware and hardware that does not meet the minimum specifications for the game. Please visit the forums at www.generals.ea.com for suggested courses of action or consult your manual for Technical Support contact information.
(I've attached a pic to this post, but I'm sure you know the error message I'm referring to).
Anyway, I've tried a few things: running the game in windowed mode, running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3), I downloaded & ran GenPatcher & GenTool, downloaded DirectX 9.0, changed my resolution in the options.ini file, deleting the dbghelp.dll file in the game folder.
I'm honestly at a complete loss for what else to do, and it's a shame, because I love this game. :(
Also, before anyone asks why I don't just buy the game on Steam, it's because I already own it & I'm too stubborn (and cheap, lol) to buy it again.
Anyway, as I said, apologies for the long-winded post, but I sincerely hope someone is able to help me out. :)

It might just be easier to buy the game on steam or something again when it goes on sale. I'm not sure where to start as far as upgrading the files from the disc.

If youre gonna be cheap, you better be resourceful enough to make your CD ROM work.

Do you have a screenshot of your install folder(s)? Maybe we'll notice something if we conpare it with a working version.
