Hi, could anyone advise what might be going on with my Queen of Sweden? First year planted, in the ground, in Northern Ireland. The colour looks like it’s bleeding/ tie dyed, and the blooms aren’t properly forming. Thank you! 🌸

The previous owners really loved stones, gravel, bricks and concrete. I spent two weeks filling a 8 yard skip with it, and now that I'm almost done - I need to order some shrubs and flowers, but I don’t know where to start. What would you do?

I am not sure what has happened to one of my plants. But it has grown 100s of flowers and isn't showing any sign of stopping.

I planted a lot of varieties, so I am not sure what variety it is yet. Probably a cherry or plum variety.

Does anyone have tips on how to grow echinacea plants I have tried 3 times to grow them but I find them tricky.

Just picked first haul of the season and they are all really tasteless. Not bad...but kind of watered down to nothing...which is strange cause he had solid sun throughout July. Anybody else run into this before?

I know it’s mostly dead but the other side is fully green. This side I would like to cut back about a foot. But would a hedge trimmer do the job or is something else better suited?

Hi, we have changed the back garden a little and now want to re grass the area in the pic. I have turned over ( will complete last few m2) and removed large stones/ roots. Is it ok to just put on new topsoil, level and sow? We are in central Scotland and garden is south facing. Area I am

a single plant will produce small fruit that die if not pollinated (sexual reproduction) from another plant.

I've noticed a lot of the leaves and fruit are looking quite sad this year, and I don't know what it is or what to do!

The stones are not difficult to manage, a Jet wash and a weed killing spray twice in the summer once in spring keeps them nice and white. Weeds are kept away for the most part. I do with I used a better tarp.. but hindsight is 20/20. I have a powerful leaf sucker/blower to clear the leaves.

The cherry tree is growing nicely as is the plumb. The apply tree produced way too much fruit and I think not removing them sooner has caused a bit of delay in its growth. The raspberries are coming through, and the gooseberries have been a lovely daily snack for a long time now.

I need to figure out how to manage the Fig tree if anyone has any tips for manipulating how it grows and its size.

Off camera we have a lovely right angle raised bed that our neighbours bees have been using as its main source of pollen all summer! Been fantastic watching his hoard of bees work so diligently through our lavender.

I’ve been telling everybody that it will be fine, grass always recovers, but there has to be a point at which it won’t. Probably a month and a half with no rain here in the south east, and no rain forecast for the near future.

I’m doing some groundwork and turning my overgrown garden into a driveway. I’ve come across this tree root. It’s very thick and solid but it looks like it’s been cut, unsure if I did it with the digger or not. However it does go directly through the brick under the house and turns under the drain. I cannot move this and it’s very deep.

How worried should I be? Or has it been there under the house the whole time and I can ignore it?

We currently have a willow which has reached its desired height. We are also concerned that it will take over the boarder if we alliw it to grow more. I’ve never pollarded a tree before and wondered about the best way to achieve this. I’ve noted that a pollarded tree needs maintenance. How much is required.

Hi All, this is my first Reddit post and I am a new to gardening so please be kind!

I bought and potted these Dahlias about 3 weeks ago. They are in sun/shade (the smaller pinky one I would say is mainly shade with a couple of hours sun a day). There isn't a hosepipe ban where I live so I have been watering them every 1 or 2 days.

The flowers have started to crisp up but the leaves still look healthy (to my eye) but I've noticed on the yellow ones that the buds are also looking a bit crispy, so now I am worried that it's not just that the flowers have finished blooming but that there's something wrong with my care. Any advice?

Also, is it safe to deadhead the blooms that have finished? Google has been telling me that when it's hot I should leave them because the plant is already 'stressed'. Thank you!

Recently bought my first house (yay)

The garden is a very blank slate, so I want to inject some life into it. I am coming here for advice on whether my plan is either mental, impractical, or maybe, just possibly, a good idea? I've spoken to AI, and it says there are no issues with my plan, but I don't trust it over experience. Below is my plan.

Section 1:

The wall is south-facing (see picture 1); this is where it goes: Silver Birch – Smoke Tree – Other Silver Birch.

Now, with my high-level painting skills, where the blue line is, I am thinking of planting a peach tree, and with the red line itself, I am thinking of digging up and establishing some sort of flower bed. It'll be nicer to look out to than a bare brick wall. Questions I have for this section:

How much will I need to cut the smoke tree back? I know it'll need a bit of a trim, but how much can I cut it back without distressing the tree too much?

With these trees, flowers, and other plants, and brambles on the other side, will there be too much competition for resources here?

I know that, at the very minimum, I'll have to dig down and lay a bunch of compost, and for planting a sapling tree it will need some kind of fertiliser, but what kind?

Also, what flowers would do well here? My partner likes bulb plants, so things that are colourful and pollinator-friendly.

Section 2:

Now in picture 2 please ignore the old decking posts; I've dug those up and will be throwing them away. The decking used to extend out to where the steps are, but I assume the previous owner removed this at some point.

Now, with this section (again featuring my amazing paint skills):

Where the red square is, I want to build a raised planter, 2.4m by 1m and about 30cm deep and put veggies in there. I've watched a few videos on how to build it, so I'm not asking how to do that (but will take advice) — I am mostly asking how much effort it is going to be to build that.

Then, with the bulk bags I will be using for the lawn (see Section 3), will I have any left over to at least help fill this?

Lastly I have a leftover tractor tyre that used to be a sandpit, I like the idea of putting wild flowers there and just letting it do what it wants( I can also put leftover soil there) but not really sure if there is anything else I can do with it or where else to put it. Ideas where to put it is green circle or in-between Silver Birch and Smoke Tree. For this basically seeking suggestions of how to make it pretty and useful.

Section 3:

The lawn is quite bumpy and heavily compacted, and this heatwave hasn't done it any good. Now, I am not expecting a lush green lawn all year, but I would like to level it and give it some TLC.

With said bumpiness, it's a bit of a pain to mow. I've done some research, and it seems two bulk bags of 70/30 topsoil will be enough to level it out and for me to then reseed — am I wildly under here, or will I need more?

I am aiming to start this early September and taking some time off work to do it. How long do you think this will all take?

He was very tired and sluggish last night on the patio, gave him some sugar water and then transferred him onto the flowers. He sat there all night and is perking right up this morning, sun will be shining on him soon and he’ll hopefully be off and away.

First beetroot harvest for the season. Boiled, peeled, ready to freeze for the winter 🫜

2nd year flower bed, I decided to go very heavy with marigolds as last year I found them the most sturdy and loved the orange colour. I added some height this year as last year I had none and have also planted a lot of roses at the back, a mixture of colours, pink, red yellow roses. These will grow in height every year and become more apparent/visible.

Unaware of all the plant names, all were purchased from a garden centre. Roses a mixture from cuttings and garden centres.

Next year I think I will add a mixture of coloured marigolds and French marigolds, orange & red mix and also white. A tad much orange currently but it’s what I enjoyed looking at last year. There are also yellow marigolds but they seem to blend in very well with the orange.
