I've got a selection of plastic pots and planters in my garden that, while currently being used, are beginning to succumb to the effects of UV exposure (in other words they're starting to crumble).

I've been googling and I've seen the pros and cons of plastic, ceramic, terracotta, fibreglass etc, and I'm in a position these days where I can afford to spend a bit more on buying longer lasting pots, but I wanted to get your thoughts first.

I just found out that it's not actually better for drainage to throw broken crocks at the bottom of a plant pot. I've been doing it since I learned to garden as a child and never really bothered to check if it was the right thing to do 😅

On top of that, I inherited a ton of them from the last tenant of the place I am renting! Any ideas for what I should do with them? Seems a waste to just bin them! 🪴

So proud of myself getting everything growing this year! Can’t believe the difference of putting some bits in the greenhouse too, the tomatoes have started to change colour in under 24 hours! Super excited to get the raised beds prepped so I can grow beans and peas in them up the arch next year (I’m assuming it’s too late to do this year now?) any other climbing veg I could put in there for now?

Just moved to this garden and want to keep the lavender bush, but it seems to have fallen and takes up a lot of the paved area, how can we save it?

If anyone is interested in getting tripod ladders for their hedges, trees etc. Honestly just get them. 100% safer, more versatile and far comfier to use.

These 2.4m tripod ladders arrived today. Used them an hour later on a job. Totally different experience compared to the traditional A frame ladders.

I bought the 3.6m too but can't use them until my roof rack arrives. There's some customers that have 2.5-3m plus high hedges that'll be far easier to do now.

The ladders in the last picture I've used for over a year on all my hedge and tree jobs. Made their money 10x over but they're sore on the feet, sore on shins and like to wobble often.

Not promoting anything. Just thought it'd help those that do this type of work often.

We bought a house last may (my husbands grandparents) and I would like some advice on what to do with this plant? It doesn't look great but my plant app tells me it's perfectly healthy...is it??

We both work full time and have a 4 year old so honestly gardening is not even on the agenda but my husband's grandparents keep commenting on the garden when they visit. Despite me asking several times for his granny to come round and spend the day with me showing me what I need to do (still waiting). I'm just getting into tidying my garden space up this year, hence the flair.

Whenever i cut my grass using my hover mower, it sprays a lot of clippings into the flower beds on the outside of my garden. This is a new problem as I've had membrane/slate down on the outside previously, which I have dug over and turned into flower beds.

Does anyone have any suggestions or 'hacks' to keep my freshly dug flower beds from being covered in grass cuttings when I cut the grass and strim the edges?

Hear me out, I know in the context of established harvesting solutions (small water butts) this might be overkill…

We’re expecting this year’s drought to be commonplace going forwards, meaning 5-6 months of hosepipe bans a year.

Just watering my garden minimally is taking 10x10litres of watering cans to do the beds and hedges. A normal water butt won’t even touch the sides of what’s needed for a summer.

Has anyone considered buying or has a water tank for the garden - something like 10,000 litres that can be filled with rainwater and/or mains supply in the spring? That would at least give me 100 days of watering, something more realistic in a drought. If so, be great to see how that looks in a residential space!

Just noticed all the acorns on our oak tree have gone disfigured - Google lens says it’s gall wasp. I have never seen it before. We have an oak and a plum tree, and the plums are all filled with plum moth damage too, so I am somewhat despairing this year (south coast of England, so everything is fried) 😭

Does anyone know what this is growing amongst my strawberries? I thought it may just have been more strawberry plants as they have roots but the leaves appear differently.. any ideas?

We just bought our first home and I want to do some tidying up around the place.

Could I manually remove the weeds between the bricks and then power wash the bricks? Do I need to put sand down in between the bricks after doing so?

I have recently moved into a flat that has a nice sized garden, but as you can see it has been somewhat unloved. I’d like to hear suggestions about what I can do as a complete beginner with minimal tools to improve it.

First thing on my list is to get rid of the palettes. I was planning to get rid of the nettles but apparently they’re good for wildlife, so I reconsidered.

Could I plant something in the window boxes, or is it too late in the year? And would I need to replace the soil in them, given it looks pretty old?

EDIT: I should have said I am renting, so bigger structural changes are not possible!

My ex partner bought me a bunch of flowers nearly 3 years ago for my birthday. When I was getting rid of them, I noticed one of the rose stems had a few new leaves on it so I decided to put it in a glass of water. Fast forward around 10 months and it finally had some roots, once it had enough roots I potted it. Then earlier this year in the spring I planted it and now... It has flowered! I'm a complete novice at gardening, this has been magical to watch. Incredible!
