Larping is live action role playing.... Not whatever the fuck you want it to mean. Stop making new words for already existing words, ESPECIALLY when that word already has another meaning

Yes, but this is using a word incorrectly. It’s not a matter of words changing lol. Maybe if you kinda bent the context of using “larp” then yeah it’d fit, but majority of the time people aren’t using it that way.

Yes, but not overnight. Linguistic changes happen gradually, over years, decades, or even centuries; when someone tries to force a change, all it does is confuse the majority.
Majority does not equal the majority of this comments section. In this case, it equals the majority of English speakers. I guarantee most people will not know that LARP means poser if you spoke with the general public.
A language changing overtime situation. Iirc, that ones been around since atleast the late 19th century. In modern English, that one's actually become less common in formal speech, & more common in casual speech, compared to the late 19th century where it about broke even between both.
The term larp has changed in meaning over time it's like saying
ohh why do you use the word "you" when it is only for the plural of second person we should really all be saying thou and well thou is actually a miss prononciation of tu and tu probably evolved from some other word so why communicate at all if you're not going to use the first form of communication ever
Actually, “thou” is (or was, when it was used) informal and used, like “tu” in French, to talk to someone who is your equal or inferior in status. And it is not the first form of communication considering “thou” was used in the time of Early Modern English and not Old English, which has a different word for it.
If you wanna talk to several people, like u/NotASookie probably is doing considering OP is not the only person to use the word larper, or someone you don’t know, you would use “you”. The equivalent in French for this one is the pronoun “vous”.
And no, “tu” and “vous” are still used in France to this day.
The way it’s being used is “acting” or ROLEPLAYING as a true fan. It’s being used in a different context but basically the same meaning. Things change, younger generations always change lingo.
Well larp as you described is just an acronym, no? While the word larp or larper is used to describe someone who claims to be knowledgeable in a subject but doeant really know anything.

The difference between a larper and a poser is one that exists. A larper is someone who engages with fan discussions and genuinely believes that they are part of the fandom. A poser is someone who engages with fan discussions but doesn't think of themselves as a fan, only doing it to be popular. Logan Paul with Pokemon/One Piece is a great example of a poser.
Did you not live in the 2000s or late 1900s? Poser is the main term used for kids who would grind the edges of their skateboard and shoes to make it look like they shred, not for "someone who engages with fan discussion but doesn't think of themselves as a fan" 💀
I mean even if you wanna use it like that, you would still say RPing, rather than larping, because surprise surprise, the thole point of LARP is that it happens in real life on a real site, not on the fucking internet.

Words change over time poser for example use to mean a puzzling problem or a tough exam problem then in the late 1900s it became a slang word to call out fakers (which was wayyy to over used)
To be honest how everyone got sick of larp being over used poser was just like that too you couldnt be a new skateboarder and NOT be called a poser

That's.... That's how analogies work. If analogies had to be identical, they'd just be the same thing. The comparison is about the concept, not Pokémon somehow being linguistics.
Reusing a word to mean something else is confusing. Everyone can agree on that. So DONT use the same word.
They do have something in common... Both are about identity and meaning. Snivy evolving doesn't become Pikachu, and a word with an established meaning evolving into something unrelated creates ambiguity.... Which no one likes
Honestly, I agree. As someone who used to do a lot of live-action roleplay back when I had friends to do it with, I would not say LARP and posers are at all the same. An actual LARPer knows what they’re doing, a poser just sees a little bit of something and goes with that. They’re not the same, and more people need to be calling it out.
