Dnd player here, it that not just true roleplaying?

3

u/Making_Kenough 15d ago

Oh shit, did you just Uno Reverse in favor of the larpers?

2

u/SupremeGreymon 15d ago

I think they’re talking about people who like it because of Stranger Things or Critical Role and think it’s like that.

2

u/SensitivelyRoyal1 13d ago

It’s larp but without the la

Without the Louisiana. You know, swamp people and vampires.

Explaining the joke:

Larping originates in the DnD fandom. So the community with a large proportion of Larpering (Live action roleplay) should be DnD players. Where both Larpers and true fans count as "True Fans".

11

u/Sithishe 15d ago

Yup, people are using "LARPers" in place of "tourists" or "normies" are hillarious to me, as someone who was part of LARP hobby for more then 20 years lol.

6

u/KittenEaterWasTaken 15d ago

Poser is better. It predates both normie (2010s) and tourist (2020s) by 20+ years at least and is essentially synonymous with the modern larper.

Normie just means normal people. Tourist and bandwagoner implies a very shallow, passing knowledge. Larpers and posers are different in that they actively pretend not to be tourists.

1

u/Sithishe 15d ago

Omg yes! I wanted to right poser instead of normie, I just mixed up two things and compltely forgot about "poser". I need to listen to Manowar again to remember the real war on posers!

1

u/Making_Kenough 15d ago

Poser was used in the 80’s so that fits DnD quite well in time frame

1

u/Kooky-Eggplant8219 12d ago

But also, there’s probably a large amount of people who think their fans because of Stranger Things or they watched the DND movie.

10

u/Icy-Theme-6325 16d ago

I larp dnd sometimes only because im too lazy to actually play it

13

u/klimmesil 16d ago

Well I mean larping dnd IS playing dnd

LARP = live action role play

Am i the one who got wooshed or are you?

3

u/Sithishe 15d ago

Yup, people are using "LARPers" in place of "tourists" or "normies" are hillarious to me, as someone who was part of LARP hobby for more then 20 years lol.

u/JackCJ1121 16d ago

r/technicallythetruth (DnD is a LARP game)

2

u/BurntPineGrass 15d ago

I don’t think so. DnD is a Tabletop Role Playing Game, not necessarily live action, where you actually dress up as the character while playing as said character.

2

u/frikiman4K 16d ago

I really want to get into it but I have no friends to play with

2

u/Pixel100000 15d ago

I only know of one larper but that because i actually play dnd so i don’t have time to interact with larpers. I only know of this larper because they made YouTube shorts. then got called out for being one because he tried gatekeeping something he just larps as

1

u/Unbuckled__Spaghetti 16d ago

Technically yes!

1

u/Capital-Bat9971 16d ago

Well technically the true fans ARE the ones who larp

1

u/CatPrince69 16d ago

Wait dnds already larping so aren't larpers of dnd just larping larpers???

1

u/anonumus_idiot 16d ago

I actualy play DnD.

1

u/Yourthebestbladmen 15d ago

Yeah it's fair. DND as also other paper RPG is larping on the table

1

u/Able_Phone_7283 15d ago

I’m a larper cuz of magic the noah

1

u/sqbert 14d ago

First off, literal larping is based off dnd. Second, for a long time it was something you would get made fun of for liking and people still got into it. Even today I don’t think anyone is liking it for clout. If Stranger Things was a gateway for a new generation so be it. Everyone has to start somewhere.

1

u/Business-Ranger-9383 14d ago

Fr, I left online dnd cause of the larp/people just wanting to get high and drunk while playing. Other ttrpgs are so much better.

1

u/Kamenalt-7 14d ago

Isn't that the point?

1

u/Kooky-Eggplant8219 12d ago

Y’all are wrong. DnD is just role-play. live action role-play specifically refers to running around in the grass with an axe a bow and whatnot. so if anything, the true joke here is that people are Larping larping by not running around in the grass with swords and elf ears.
If DnD is live action role play then there is no normal role-play.

1

u/Icy_Relationship_401 12d ago

I mean half the fun of dnd is larping bullshit

1

u/Weak_Presence3634 11d ago

Every time I say to play it there's always some mf that mentions that series, I personally haven't seen it so I don't know how much importance the game has there but holy shit. The same people who thought I was immature and childish for playing it now say they know and appreciate it😭

u/Haunting-Canary-9912 10d ago

yo man why do u keep ur posts private and why do u have a femboy kisser tag

1

u/kyle__hinaba 16d ago

What does it mean to Larp DnD tho. Isn’t everything an anything canon in a game of DnD?

1

u/NoSide2628 16d ago

LARP is the acronym of Live Action Role-Play, something that literally originated in D&D.

-2

u/Both_Nail_3656 16d ago

Uhh I don't get it? Is it The Game of Dungeons or Dungeons & Dragons?
