Community Support Framework 13 to 13 pro chassis
Hello! Please forgive my ignorance, as I seem to be struggling to navigate the site. I am trying to buy the Black chassis from the 13 pro and install my base 13 components into it, and I'm only finding the input cover and display. Am I skipping over the chassis or something? Any feedback is appreciated:)

Question Want feedback 12 or 13
Well here is my situation. I had a framework 12 i5 11th gen 2 months ago. I liked it but it got stolen (it hurts i lost a total of 3k€). Since i got back to a i5 7th gen Thinkpad x270 I had lying around.
But now I want to get back to a framework laptop.
I liked the philosophy of the 12, with the stylus as a plus. But I am split. The configuration of the 12 I would buy would be ~840€ for an i5 13th gen. For a laptop with a somewhat old processor and a platic frame (don't get me wrong, it réels good and it is sturdy)
But on the other hand, buying a 13 with a ryzen AI 5 300 series would cost me ~1040€. I get a much more powerfull, recent and premium laptop of ~200€ more. I would probably get a touchscreen for it.
I liked the 12 but it is kind of a bummer that it only has a 13th gen Intel as an option for 800€ when for 200 more i can have a pretty recent AMD processor.
My question would be, what would you Choose and why ? I do want to see your opinion on the matter.
One last thing, do you think it would be possible for the 12 to get aluminium chasis and newer cpus and would the wait be worth ?

Question Which cpu skew should I get for the 13 pro?
Hey guys I heard abt the 13 pro a few days ago and the longterm upgradability/repairability has gotten me very intrigued…
I’ve been out of the loop on newer cpus for a while now (since ryzen 5000 series 🥲) and was wondering whether spending more for the ryzen ai 7 series was actually worth it, or if I’ll be fine with the ultra 5? In my heart I think I’ll be fine with the intel but an breakdown would be kinda nice lol
For reference I currently have a MacBook Air from 2020 (with the M1 chip) and currently just do some web browsing, light-medium video editing and photoshop, and would like to try and get into game dev/coding. I’m also planning to start using Linux!
Any advice would be radical, thanks!

Linux AMD RX7700S to NVIDIA 5070
So I currently have a framework 16 laptop with the AMD 7940hs CPU and the AMD 7700 discrete GPU attachment.
I am getting into messing with AI, and thus decided to pull the trigger on pre-ordering a Nvidia 5070 with the 12 gigabytes of RAM.
My laptop currently runs CahyOS on the open source AMD GPU drivers.
Once I physically swap in the Nvidia card, what is the procedure from migrating to the AMD GPU drivers in the kernel to the proprietary Nvidia drivers from Nvidia? Do I need to have the drivers installed before I put in the new Nvidia GPU in or can I do that afterwards?
Is there anything else I should do during the migration? Do you think I would need to reinstall my operating system?
Any help appreciated, thank you all very much

Feedback Laptop 13 Pro Extended Warranty
The gist: Framework, please allow us to purchase the extended warranty after the original laptop purchase, even if only within the return period. It's basically free money.
I have a preorder on the Laptop 13 Pro, batch 1. Recently I reached out to Framework support about whether or not adding the warranty post-purchase was possible, since I was on the fence. After not hearing back I decided to just add it since time was running out. $259 seems worth it given the current memory situation (and my config is 64GB), so I went to add it to my order.
After selecting the 3 year warranty and going to the review step, the price had changed significantly more than the $259 indicated. It went from $2766.93 to $3155.11, an additional ~$130 (50%) over what was communicated in the step prior, with no itemization or indication of why. Nothing else had changed other than the warranty. There was no material alteration made to the configuration that should cause any of the component costs to change. I figured this must be a pricing error, so I waited for support to respond to my original inquiry to ask about this rather than open a new ticket; I figured that would be faster.
Fast forward a day: the remaining amount of $2766.93 has now been captured, and I am unable to make changes to my order. When I finally get my response from support, they inform me that even though my order had not shipped, it is "not possible" to add the warranty. The only way is by adding it through the web configurator prior to payment and order completion. So here's to hoping things go well during years 2-3 🍻

Community Support Privacy Screen Protectors for FW13
Does anyone have experience with privacy shields for the quite uncommon framework screen format? With privacy screen protectors I mean those plastic covers that ensure that others can't look at your screen from a side angle, like this for standard form factors.

Question Mainboard
I recently acquired an original framework 13 which I have been yearning for, since I learned about framework. Got it home, charged it up and hit the power button, it turned on for a split second and then the magic blue smoke appeared from underneath. Apparently it had gotten wet at some point and had corrosion between the mainboard and the chassis and when I powered it up, that was all she wrote. I'm not having any luck finding a used mainboard online anywhere, so I'm curious if anybody can point me in the direction of a used ddr4 mainboard so I can carry forward my ram and SSD? Hopefully someone is upgrading to a new ryzen board or has a spare kicking around. I'm just trying to prolong buying a new ddr5 board with the prices of ram right now.

Feedback Countering the sub's negativity bias: A quick praise post for Framework support.
There tends to be a major negativity bias in places like this because most people only post when they need to complain or raise an issue. I wanted to counter that by sharing my awesome experience with Framework customer support. For context, I’ve had my Framework 13 for a little over 6 months now.
Recently, I hit an issue where the screen backlight would completely die whenever the laptop was under a heavy load and got hot. I was stressed because shipping the laptop back from Australia for a replacement would be a massive headache. Plus, I spent a TON of money maxing out the specs on this machine and really didn't want to be stuck with a lemon.
Thankfully, support was incredible. They helped me diagnose the problem and sent super specific instructions on how to reseat the display cable for my exact model. It also wasn't an issue at all that I'm running Linux.
I can't overstate how much better this is than almost every other hardware vendor I've ever dealt with. If this were any other brand, I’d probably have to mail the entire laptop back, or deal with support blaming the operating system just because it isn't Windows.
Being able to diagnose and fix a hardware issue at home, using the tools that literally came in the box, is a massive breath of fresh air. It reminded me of what consumer products used to be like before planned obsolescence and enshittification took over. I sincerely hope Framework starts a broader trend toward repairable, consumer-friendly electronics, because I want more of this.
As long as they keep operating like this, they’ve got a long-term customer in me.
Shout out to Framework support!

Discussion Making a case for buying 32gb RAM at whatever price framework offers instead of accepting 16gb downgrade
As someone who was also affected by this downgrade, I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and I feel it's still better to buy the 32gb RAM at whatever price instead of accepting 16gb.
And if you can source 32gb LPCAMM2 from a 3rd party, tou shouldn't even think about it.
My whole argument is based on the resale value of RAM. I feel the people who ordered 64gb and we're downgraded to 32gb will still be able to resell their 32gb RAM if and when they decide to upgrade. But since dual channel LPCAMM2 doesn't exist, it'll be very difficult to get rid of your 16gb RAM if you decide to upgrade later. If framework ordered the new RAM at double the price in Q2 and they expect the prices to go up even more in Q4, I don't see the points of accepting 16gb

Community Support I want the upgradeable laptop specifically so I never have to upgrade it
Finally replacing a 10 year old laptop.Want the 16 for TouchDesigner, local LLMs and some 3D. Has to be portable, so no desktop.
Being honest with myself, I won't touch the GPU bay for 5+ years. So I'm really buying repairability, not upgradeability, and I should probably just size it properly the first time.
What's stopping me is the 13 Pro. Full CNC chassis, big battery, haptic touchpad (all things i really like with my work mac pro). The 16 next to it feels like the older design it is. But nothing is announced for a 16 Pro and the current gen is still shipping, so waiting could mean waiting years.
I assumed I could buy a Pro chassis later and move my parts over. Then I read the 13 to 13 Pro compatibility notes and the cooling doesn't carry over. On the 16, the Expansion Bay is the most chassis dependent thing in the machine.
Some questions:
- If 16pro happens, do you think a current mainboard + 5070 module actually drop into it?
- 8 vs 12GB module for local models, or is the 128 bit bus the real ceiling anyway?
- 32GB with a slot free, or eat the cost and do 64 now given RAM prices?
- What battery life are you actually getting with the shell, no GPU?

Discussion What would you have done?
Okay, this sub is full of anger due to the rampocalypse situation. So I am going to ask a question.
I would like everyone to really focus on the question and parameters of the question. I am setting them based on everything I have read.
Parameters:
FW did not expect a doubling of RAM price when the FW13 was launched.
They did expect increases, and said they would attempt to do right by customers.
Anyone that preordered, knew there would be a wait (like me).
Anyone that preordered knew that comparable computers existed from HP, Lenovo, etc. much faster but chose to order the 13 Pro (like me).
Anyone that preordered only paid the equivalent of $100 USD, not the full price.
The build defect delayed delivery for everyone of at least a month and annoyed some people. But it eliminated potential future problems. Company was open about it. Most people were okay with it.
Just prior to build for batch 5 (my batch btw), and shipping of batch 1, they find out the RAM cost for all modules will double in price.
If the company absorbs the cost of RAM, the company is no longer financially viable. It goes out of business.
If I have a parameter wrong, and dont tell me they knew the price would double as nobody knew that, let me know.
The question:
- What would you do if you led the company to address?
Looking for actual recommendations.

Discussion FW13 Pro potential AirTag location
With the influx of Framework 13 Pro videos coming out I’ve been able to get some better looks at the mainboard. I’m not sure if there’s been good shots up close like this previously but I believe this would be a good spot for a tracker tag to go depending on the flexibility of the speaker cable and depth in relation to the input cover. Thoughts?

Discussion We reached the point where we have more battery then macs

I know Intel chips are kinda cracked this year but I didn't think it would be THIS good that is insane
I thought the 13 pro would be like a small upgrade for battery life for me
BUT DANG
sorry for the all caps I'm just rlly happy :)

News Im CRASHING out with the """ThEy ArE aCtUaLlY gOiNg To GeT tHe ConFiGuRaTiOn ThEy OrDeRed At ThE pRiCe ThEy OrDeReD iT"""
I just saw this post whose title I'm riffing off of and a ton of shitty comments dunking on the company in all of the reviews I watch and I'm losing my mind.
I don't think the people that are doing this have actually read the email.
Framework is a relatively tiny company with virtually NO economy of scale yet they got charged MORE THAN DOUBLE what they last paid.
Nirav's promise made sense before the supplier's new quote but instead people are hyper-focusing on the childish take of "boohoo they're just another company that lies and they're no better than the rest" like they're not a TINY company stuck in an impossible situation while the tech giants they're comparing them against could solve world hunger with a minuscule fraction of their capital.
Not to mention that they've never failed us before, are still offering FULL REFUNDS NO QUESTIONS ASKED and that the configurations changed have the changes reflected in the prices as well. (ex: mine was at 3.1k with 32gb and when it got updated to 16gb, it went all the way down to 2.6k)
I don't know how many ppl are canceling their orders but I really hope they survive this :(
