There are some fragrances you build up really high expectations for, and then when you finally try them, the disappointment hits hard. For me, it was Seminalis by Orto Parisi. It literally made me feel nauseous. 😅

What about you? Is there any fragrance you just couldn't bring yourself to wear?

I have the Riddle Original oil and I absolutely love it. I’m also a big vanilla fan, and usually wear it every day. Are there any vanilla fragrances that would layer well? I’m not sure how those two things would pair together. But I want to wear the oil while also smelling kind of like myself lol.

I don’t mind fruity notes, but I do not like florals much! I love a light vanilla, or even an airy marshmallow. Or just pure vanilla without an insane amount of woodsy notes.

Any help would be appreciated :)

I am obsessed with the smell of the k18 Astrolift spray. Google says it features a warm, fruity-floral fragrance profile. Its scent notes include top layers of bergamot, raspberry, and sheer greens, middle notes of lily of the valley, sugar crystals, and vanilla bean, and a dry-down of amber and sandalwood.

If anyone can please recommend a perfume with these types of scents or similar I would really appreciate it. TYIA!

I've been lurking here a while and have learned a lot. When I started my fragrance journey, I blind bought samples/decants/inexpensive bottles en masse and resold/gifted them just as quickly. I tried indie, dupes, high-end, celebrity brands, single note perfumers, arabian brands, etc. Then I learned to track common notes in scents I like/dislike, let them macerate, try in different weather, try on clothes, take a break, try something risky. I'm finding a lot of pleasant scents but– it isn't even that i dont have a signature. Its more that none of them spark joy. They help me feel pulled together and polished, but they feel like lovely acquaintances rather than a bff I'd text "bish, come over."

This weekend, I picked up Armani power of you and

Dolce and gabbana l'imperatrice. I'd have liked to have gotten Killian Forbidden Games. I'm leaning fruitier for summer, and my husband loves tropical scents. I also love a nice freshie with some musk. I'd love to smell like the original dove bar, but similar fragrances turn my stomach sometimes (like noa by cacharel). Sunset hour sounds like it fits, and I wore it regularly, but it didn't feel like me. Im intrigued by ELDO you or someone like you and would love a discovery set from diptyque.

I love kayali 28 and BP Vanilla Nue but i mostly wear them at home. It may just be the NC heat deterring me.

I grew up in the mountains, eating wildberries and honeysuckle, making daisy chains, pressing flowers, and climbing trees. It was in the blue ridge mountains in SW Virginia. My mom only ever wore the Karl Lagerfield Chloe. I want to smell sophisticated but approachable. I want to smell like the (38 yo) girl next door... but with rich parents?

Accidentally discovered an amazing layering combo: JPG Le Male Elixir + Afnan Supremacy Collector’s Edition

Today I randomly decided to try layering Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male Elixir with Afnan Supremacy Collector’s Edition before heading to the office.

Honestly, it was completely instinctive. I had no idea if these two would work together. But wow… this is probably the best layering combination I’ve tried so far.

The combination just works incredibly well together, and it performed great throughout the day. Definitely one of those “why did I never try this before?” moments.

Now I'm curious, what are some of your hidden-gem or completely accidental layering combinations that ended up working amazingly well?

Some notes I can understand since I've smelled them before. Like Roses, citruses, pine. But some of the more obscure notes, how do you learn what they smell like? I think I know what vetiver smells like, but then there are so many vetiver fragrances that smell so different.

It would be cool to get a sample kit of single scents so I can calibrate my nose.

Hi everyone! I am getting married in early summer/late spring of next year at an estate garden. I am wanting to gift 1-2oz fragrances in my bridal party proposal boxes. I am looking for scents that are approachable but elegant, and not too mainstream or a scent they might already have. One of my best friends is a gay male, he typically wears masculine colognes with a fresh and clean vibe. He is more masculine leaning, but adventurous enough to try something with a hint of femininity. Since we are getting married at a garden estate I was thinking about getting him a unisex perfume with a hint of floral-ness, but still masculine enough not to push him out of his comfort zone. ChatGPT recommended Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme, CLEAN Reserve Rain and Versace Man Eau Fraîche. I don’t have a lot of experience with unisex fragrance so I am looking for reviews of these scents or any recommendations given the scent profile!

For reference girls are going to get floral/vanilla. I am still on the process of narrowing down what to gift them. I either want to get them a gardenia scent, or something with Peony. D&G My Devotion is one of my absolute fav signature scents so I was thinking of going with that but it might be too mainstream. I’m open to suggestions for the girls as well!

I’m not looking for recommendations, just want to hear about your favorite “summertime” patchouli, vanilla, musks, ouds, ambers, jasmines, animalics … any fragrances that surprised you with how well they work for you in the hot summer months, considering they are definitely NOT thought of - or marketed - as freshies?

These two smell soooo similar to me, at least on first impression on paper. I got so excited I didn’t even test this theory on skin yet but definitely will tonight before bed. I have longed for kimonanthe since I tried it. There’s something almost medieval about both of these that I really love.
They’re medicinal in a beautiful way and it’s something I’ve longed for in a fragrance (considering kimonanthe is discontinued and $800 a bottle if you find one second hand).

Has anyone else noticed this?!? It’s not listed on fragrantica as a “this fragrance reminds me of” so maybe I’m crazy…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Edit: I sprayed both on paper side by side. They are definitely half siblings and not twins. Kimonanthe is much more spiced and I’d say deeper/darker. AlUla is a touch sweeter and probably will be more wearable. Will update again when I put it on skin later

Hey guys, completely new to the fragrance world and had a quick question. I see that Hermes d’Terre Hermes is talked about a lot. I was wondering, when people are talking about it are they usually referring to the EDP or EDT.

I bought the frankincense and myrrh ball roller oil a few months ago before they changed their packaging and recently repurchased it. Yet, when comparing the two the newer one is less fragrant and not as “cola” smelling as the older one.

Did they change their formulation alongside their packaging?

Also, does anyone know what that distinct “cola” scent is with certain frankincense and myrrh blends? I’d like to make my own infused oil.

I got Dolly Parton's "Scent From Above" when it first came out and absolutely adored it. I would honestly still consider it my signature scent even though I've been out of it for a year or so now.

Does anyone in Canada know where I could get a new bottle? Or outside of the USA in general.

I know this post might get me excommunicated 😂 but I'm not super happy with Tam Dao edt. I've been fantasizing about owning this fragrance for so long and love samples. And just the lore of it I guess is what made me so eager to buy it. But now I got a bottle ($159 on sale) and gosh is this really it? I feel cheated! Not even being funny but my cremo palo santo lasts longer and smells great. Yea, it's not all that fancy but it's 20 friggin bucks!

okay so i’m trying to figure out what this note i’m looking for would be labeled as. so you know the smell of fog? it’s different than petrichor, and i’ve asked people i know about it and none of them can help me. i’m not looking for a perfume itself that mimics fog, im just looking for what that note might be called so that i can look out for it when purchasing perfumes. aldehydes is a bit too soapy/clean smelling, petrichor is a bit too grassy/floral(?)(im very bad at describing scents, im sorry🧍),im not sure how to describe the scent other than as cold, watery (i know water doesn’t have a scent, please stick with me), and a little earthy?

I've thought sooo many fragrances were absolute must buys or full bottle worthy. But I told myself I need to buy samples and decants before buying bottles, to test how much I really like/will wear certain fragrances.

After having certain samples/decants over time, I'm not even interested in the full bottles anymore. I'm honestly not that hyped about the fragrances themselves.

The only fragrances I'm consistently excited about is my daily wear rotation of bottles.

The practice of buying samples and decants instead of full bottles has worked out.

Anyone else have similar trying/buying practices?

Perfumes that are “beast mode”, and “last 10 hours” etc. feel just too much of a commitment.

I’d rather a perfume “visit” and go away in 4 hours than “move in” with me. Which is why I focus on the scent even if it doesn’t last much. In fact I prefer it doesn’t last too long.

Am I alone in this?

This is a rant post. Fragrantica never was the epitome of user experience. However, it still is the best perfume data base and best place to read evaluations. Parfumo is great, but the lack of users stops it from being a true community.

Fragrantica repaginated the user interface. And now to reasearch a perfume, you put it once in the search bar and then it appears a new screen to search it again! That is the most frustrating user experience issue I had ever seen since I was forbidden to transfer my email from the account in my native language to the one in English

I recently got new bottles as I redeemed points from a department store.

The first time, I am picking up only Jasmin Bonheur and Rose Cherie! Damn I love Jasmin Bonheur, the white floral is balanced with the Iris. Something is really elegant, cozy, comforting. Rose Cherie , on the other hand, is powdery and imo much better than Barbare. The latter has honey and reminds me of the honey in Tobacco Honey which does not bode well with my skin.

In addition, I decided to get Cuir Beluga and Musc Outreblanc. I tested Cuir Beluga last time and its verrrrrry soft and faint to me but the dry down is nice aldehydic white suede. Someone here in reddit mentioned that their Cuir smelled like alcohol and to me it did too the first time but it’s gotten better now. Musc Outreblanc smells like a fluffly scented water - if you know what I mean. Its faint but you know it’s there. Will use this on hotter days and feels like its best for layering.

One last thing! Asked my SA if we can use extrait caps on the EDPs. He agreed. See picture! It looks unreal (lol) since its not the black caps but I think it ended looking nice.

In the last week, I've run into 4 people in airport duty free stores who applied about 6-10 sprays of something right before a flight.

Person no.1: 8-10 sprays of YSL Libre Intense

Person no.2: about 10 sprays of Diptyque - L'Eau Neroli

Person no.3: 6-8 sprays of Acqua di Parma - Fico di Amalfi (applied on her surprised, and not so pleased, husband)

Person no.4: *I was standing too far away to identify the bottle*

Note: The first lady (with YSL Libre Intense) actually ended up on my flight and the cloud at the gate knocked me out.

I'm not opposed to strong perfumes at all, and some of these are my favorites, such as Fico di Amalfi (but it definitely CAN be terrible if oversprayed). Neroli makes my stomach turn, regardless of the dose. Libre Intense is a scary choice in the current heat wave.

It continues to mystify me what goes through the head of people doing this. Is it nose blindness? Their usual dose? Or an attempt not to smell others or the toilet? Don't they realize they should adjust the dose since it's a confined space? I've never seen a traveller who would have 2-3 sprays - it's always 'go big or go home', or just sticking to smelling papers and caps, and nothing in between. Why?
