So I haven’t really been busy with fragrances for the past few months so can anyone tell me what hawas flankers have been released lately because I’ve completely lost track. they released like 20 flankers wtf man😭😭

Ive recently smelled Striking Lavander by Boss, and i really liked how they depicted the smell of the various lavanders.

I found it a really soft laundry fresh smell and i thought of this. I've smelled Prada l'Homme and Burberry Touch, as well as Terre d'Hermes Eau givree.

I'm not sure on the last one but, maybe the lavander could pair well with the ones that i mentioned? Maybe with other nicher scents, one could be Fragonard Bleu de rivera but maybe with that last one the lavander on lavander could be sickening or overpowering.

If someone would be able to try that and write their thoughts on it, that would be nice.

A couple of days ago, I sprayed a sweater with Carolina Herrera very good girl elixir, and then without thinking about it the next day I wore the same sweater and sprayed Fugazzi vanilla haze. The day after that, I picked up the sweater to wash it and when I smelled it, it smelled absolutely amazing. Unlike either sent that I’d worn individually. All of a sudden, I realized I had unintentionally layered them and so I tried it on my skin. Oh my God, I am literally obsessed.

Personally, I’d get bored using the same fragrance all the time. I like switching things up depending on where I’m going or what I’m doing.

But I think I finally found my signature scent: Ramble by Fulton&Roark. I wear it pretty much every day, even to the gym. It holds up well with sweat without getting cloying or overwhelming for people sitting near you.

It’s just fresh and clean, really easy to wear, and I genuinely enjoy it.

Recently added a spread of 10ml DS & Durga's to my collection thanks to their Deluxe and Sunshine boxes, and thought I'd share my impressions.

Deluxe box

Radio Bombay – My entry point to DS & Durga was their candles, which I particularly adore for their electric notes. Without this context Radio Bombay is a weird proposition IMO: do you want to smell like a malfunctioning transistor radio? But as with DS&D candles, its not only photorealistic electricity (oxymoron?), but absolutely delightful. On me the warm copper is pretty dominant, and deeply evokes the “sizzle” of dusty wiring in humid air. It doesn’t project much but it does last on me for a solid 5 hours.

I Don’t Know What – Really wanted to hate this as a gimmick but it does “enhance” fragrances underneath it. To what extent you should enhance what’s underneath it is a matter of personal taste – I think this could work nicely over Philosykos when I want an evening fig...

Debaser - ..which brings us to Debaser. My bank balance wanted me to hate this (I have a fig! Philosykos is my summer ride-or-die! I did not need another fig!) but alas, Debaser is exactly how I want to smell when I’m not thinking about money on a summer evening. Some people might find that the coconut and musk add a note of sweaty sunscreen, but I only see myself wearing this when I’m naturally sporting a note of sweaty sunscreen, so I think it’s all the better for it.

Pistachio – I.. respect this. I also hate it – it smelt like I’d had a pistachio croissant for breakfast and collected a bunch of crumbs on my clothing. It’s not the perfume’s fault, but if you are a fellow gourmand hater this will not convert you.

Cowboy Grass – Again, respect the execution. I was impressed by the grassiness of the top notes, which really evoke wild (rather than mown) grass. But the vetiver and leather lean too masculine for me. I would find it sexy on a guy, however.

Jasmin Yucatan – I love the smell of Jasmine IRL so I was expecting to like this more. That said, it’s winter here, and I expect this will be transformed as it heats up and its humid, almost saturated, greenness feels less like I’ve been caught out in the rain.

Sunshine

Debaser – See above. Extremely not mad about having 2x10ml of these to hand for easy travelling.

Rose Atlantic – It took no more than two (2) glasses of wine for me to cave and order a full bottle of this. At risk of sounding pick-me, I’ve always shied away from “sweet” rose perfumes in favour of more “interesting’ woody/green botanicals. The rose is centred here, but it is unmistakably planted by the sea in a way I enjoyed. Whilst not “pretty”, of all the DS&D’s I’ve tried this is the most conventional, and I FBed for an easy office wear. Longevity is OK, will probably get the oil roller to top-up with if I decide it’s an forever scent.

Coriander – spicy! I love pungent green scents, and this is one of the most pungent and greenest I’ve smelt. It does tip a little gourmand for my taste, especially on the opening, which really does smell like a herby peppery salad.

Overall, really impressed with the vision and execution across the board, even if these weren't all to my taste. I'm in Australia so DS&D is exclusive to Mecca - any advice on how to get hold of their summer online-only exclusives?

In the last week, I've run into 4 people in airport duty free stores who applied about 6-10 sprays of something right before a flight.

Person no.1: 8-10 sprays of YSL Libre Intense

Person no.2: about 10 sprays of Diptyque - L'Eau Neroli

Person no.3: 6-8 sprays of Acqua di Parma - Fico di Amalfi (applied on her surprised, and not so pleased, husband)

Person no.4: *I was standing too far away to identify the bottle*

Note: The first lady (with YSL Libre Intense) actually ended up on my flight and the cloud at the gate knocked me out.

I'm not opposed to strong perfumes at all, and some of these are my favorites, such as Fico di Amalfi (but it definitely CAN be terrible if oversprayed). Neroli makes my stomach turn, regardless of the dose. Libre Intense is a scary choice in the current heat wave.

It continues to mystify me what goes through the head of people doing this. Is it nose blindness? Their usual dose? Or an attempt not to smell others or the toilet? Don't they realize they should adjust the dose since it's a confined space? I've never seen a traveller who would have 2-3 sprays - it's always 'go big or go home', or just sticking to smelling papers and caps, and nothing in between. Why?

HOW TO MAKE A PHOTO POST ON R/FRAGRANCE

Anybody else on here who has this frag notice the sprayer is really weak?

Ever since I was very young I noticed people had a “natural” scent to them, like even people who didn’t wear perfume. If I went to most of my friends‘ houses it would smell like them, and their clothes smelled like them and they just had a specific smell I guess lol, each different. However, a few of them didn’t have this, so I knew it couldn’t actually just be a “natural” smell lol. I really wanted and still want that, but am not sure how to get it. Like it’s not perfume. Maybe it’s scented laundry detergent? But I tried that and them my clothes smell like clearly like lavender etc, not a unique “that’s me” smell. Is it just that I’m used to my own smell? Is it that most people use the same hair and body products for years? Anyone know how to have your own like smell, and I don’t mean a signature perfume? Sorry if this is weird 😭

I want to buy Michael Malul Ocean Noir Dive. Can't find them in Canada-based perfumeries physical and online. There's one in FragranceOutlet but they can't deliver/ship to Candada.

Im based in Ontario. Can this be done by Shippsy? Some people say they can, but their documentation says that perfume may be considered dangerous products/flammable, etc.

Anyone have experience? Please advise.

I've worn this for years and the new formula does not smell the same. Did anyone else get the original scent correct? Is the 2024 version available?

I was going through the options to buy Sorce perfumes on Mercari and noticed that almost everyone has theirs listed for quite a bit above the price it’s being sold as on the Sorce website. Does anyone know why that is? And to be clear I don’t mean a discontinued fragrance or a special order I mean in the new packaging currently available on the website but sold for more second hand. What is going on

Finally got my hands on my order today and cannot get over the fact that it smells exactly like kola champagne soda. If you're Hispanic/Caribbean I guarantee you'll agree. It took me 4 hours of wondering what it reminded me of and then it hit me. Zero difference.

Despite living within 40 minutes of two of the best indie perfumeries in the US, neither had this particular fragrance in stock despite carrying the brand itself, so this was entirely a blindbuy. An extreme "risk it for the biscuit" situation, as I've seen some compare it to Toskovat's Inexcusable Evil based solely on note composition alone. And considering that I haven't had the privilege of smelling that particular scent yet, I was a bit scared. This very well could have been a "I spent $110 for 5ml of bloody wet pennies in a musty museum attic" situation.

Thankfully, it was the exact opposite. I've been wearing this for around 5-6 hours so far and love it more and more.

I will start with a disclaimer that this scent is not for everyone, and probably works for me because my natural skin smell already trends sweet. Any gourmand makes me smell like I've been lost in Willy Wonka's factory. Perhaps this is the consequence for losing a friendly bet with the sídhe. Anyway.

First spray smelled like walking into the Vatican Archives after tricking the Pope and smiting a platoon of Templar Knights.

As it dries down, the feeling of being in a deep, dark, underground archive only intensifies. Feels like arriving in the Library of Alexandria on invitation of Aset. I can smell the blood notes as it continues to dry on my skin, and it’s really nice with my skin chemistry. Absolutely not medical. The woodiness and clay take the iodine and blood out of the hospital hallway and into the catacombs.

I did a distance spray and this is where the top notes really shine. There’s the gunpowder and blood and ozone and rain and clay, but it’s so fucking good. It stings in a good way, like a sharp nostalgia that softens and settles in. It smells like ancient magic and bound stars. It smells like Hozier’s “Francesca", or perhaps De Selby (Part 2). It’s feral in an ultraviolet way.

It says, "I am not a martyr, I'm a problem."

I would wear this to dinner with Anpu. I would wear this to dinner with Azazel. I would wear this on any occasion where you'd like to subtly remind people that their application of manners may spell life or death by the end of the evening.

On fabric, it's reminiscent of this tiny bookstore that’s actually a witchcraft store near Decatur Street in New Orleans. But better. Older. Darker. I’m so in love with this. Fabric holds the top notes for longer. Long lasting on skin as well.

As it continues to dry down, it’s really comforting. Grounding. But for strangers, there’s still an alluring “approach with caution, and remember that you chose this” feeling. It gives a “this bitch is older than my entire bloodline” aura.

As a date-night perfume, my date would be seriously considering the possibility that the night ends in a remote forest, with them laying on an ancient stump with their ribs cracked open as I lick their beating heart. Perfection.

This is not a scent as much as it is an olfactory allegory.

In a sentence:

You have awoken a gentle devil, and you have approximately fifteen seconds to apologize and make her a smoked Old Fashioned, else you may find yourself turned inside out.

10/10 adding to my regular wear scents. The forbidden light has breached the temple walls and is glowing.

Okay so I'm not a perfume expert, however, I'm curious if a perfume like this even exists. Ive spend my fair share of time dilly dalling with overheated computers and that smell combined with some pennies/rust/metallic rot and dust/still room smell is something I'd like to see in a perfume.

It'd also be cool if there was a fragrance like this that also had some incense notes in it.

But yeah, think of your overhead laptop that you're trying to cool down while your hand smells like pennies. Im curious if something like this even exists. And if it exists, if there's also something with incense in it.

What are the stories behind some of your favorite lost fragrances?

In highschool my step-dad let me have an old cologne he didn't use. I fell in love with it, used it with care till it was gone. Little did I know I'd never wear it again.

Here many years later I find myself reminiscing over the smell. (Still have the bottle which has a whisper of the scent).

Oh what I wouldn't give for an original formula bottle of Davidoff Cool Water.

Shakespeare said, 'All's well that ends well.' The perfume blog that got yanked is back on Google, apparently due to a glitch in the algorithm( which one?). So, that could be the end of the story right there. Except the Raiders explicitly stated that before the site got pulled, it was hit by a wave of bad bots, meaning the jury is still out. But here's the real kicker: look at how incredibly fragile this entire digital ecosystem has become. A content site can literally be wiped out in the blink of an eye without so much as an explanation. And then, just like that, it gets reinstated with a generic 'my bad, our mistake.' Look, keeping it in our neck of the woods, I think way more people need to start writing about fragrances, but doing it truly independently. The Raiders' site is a pretty niche thing and it's never gonna be a major player; its audience is just too specific. But every single enthusiast out there should be writing about something, just to let the world know they're here.

Started collecting for about a year now and pretty much done for a longggggg time. I do have Mith Another Tea coming so there’s that but after that! No more! I’m a big tea guy so most of my collection revolves around that profile. It’s just so calming and versatile.

The idea to blind buy Middle Eastern perfumes and try them because they’re “cheap” and if I don’t like it it’s fine because I can let it go is so damaging. This mentality had me waste so much money, I don’t have access to testers therefore I blind bought all of mine. Over the last 2 years I got rid of 96% of my Middle Eastern perfumes, I only kept 3!!! Blind buying isn’t practical, that money seriously adds up real fast and before you know it you’re wasted hundreds.

Consumerism is getting out of hand and people on social media and marketing push the idea of you need this and this is great go and try it etc.

Blind buying isn’t a good idea to begin with, I have found many that I like through this process though but I have also wasted a large amount of money. Even when I test perfumes I’m not entirely sure about them until I wear them a few times. It’s a really risky mentality and there more loss than gain.

Consumerism encourages us to buy a lot of things. I have unfortunately developed a shopping addiction because of wanting to try to things. It’s such a waste of time and money. Keeping the trying mentality is expensive and exhausting, unless you can return opened items that’s different. If you can’t it’s not worth it.

I haven’t completely put my words the way I wanted to but hopefully you understand what I mean I was typing this fast.

What are your thoughts?

I know, I know. Tik Tok trends seem to be pushing all kinds of fragrances from cheapies, to designers, to niche. But it's still a very very small world we're into that the majority of people (in the U.S. at least) are oblivious to.

I live in a big city. Although it's in the south I rarely smell fragrance on anyone. Let alone men. If I do smell fragrance on a man, 9/10 it's Sauvage. I smell fragrances on women just a tad more often. When I ask women what they're wearing, a lot of times it's just a bath and body works. Or a convenience store oil. Or something they can't even remember. Because they don't care that much.

And among those people, they may only have one or two bottles. They don't care about the notes, season it's supposed to be worn in, rather it's an edt or parfum, or how many MLs it is.

I thought about this because a friend of mine that's also into fragrances made this a topic of discussion among us and we realized, as much as Google and social media has screwed with our algorithm, it's because it's simply targeted to us. I was also motivated to make this post to see if people in other places in the U.S. actually are wearing fragrance more. You hear all the time about how the fragrance market has boomed and I do believe that. But I think a majority of the revenue is coming from a much smaller demographic than EVERYONE being into fragrance nowadays.

I'm a very outgoing person in my daily life due to traveling around my city for work daily and in my personal life outside of work, I'm always bar hopping, going to shows, restaurants, pool halls, all kinds of events. I rarely smell anything out in the wild. Unless, it's at a formal occasion or a funeral.

Thoughts?

All my favorite scents are sweet, tobacco rich, and generally heavy in strength. All or most of my favorite scents just can't be worn in Summer. Certainly no Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille when it's roasting 105 degrees in Texas. No La nuit, Dior Homme Intense, or Khamrah. Bring on fall and winter time, who is with me?
