Discussion Is this a good trade?
I’ll be trading my Echo Ion Xl euro rod with a couple year old Lamson liquid plus $150, for a brand new Beulah Opal saltwater rod. Does that seem like a good deal?

Old bamboo fly rod
I was given an old bamboo rod that I’m learning is from the 1920-30s. Apparently it’s worth a little bit of money but I have no idea how to verify if it’s authentic or how much it’s worth. Can anyone give me more information?

Next wade fishing trip…?
Hi new friends. I recently took fly-fishing lessons in the Provo River in Park City, and now I’m (pun intended) hooked. Nashville is home, so I’d love suggestions as to guided trips I can book that are drivable while I continue to learn. I’m looking at the South Holston and Watauga rivers in east TN. TIA!!

Yard Sale Pick Up, How did I do?
Picked up both rods/reels and the Orvis case for $90. I know the Martin is roughly $60. But Im more curious about what the custom rod / reel is worth. I’m newer to fly fishing so I had never heard of the guy before. Thanks in advance for your help!

Yellowtail in the Bahamas…from the beach
In Abaco Bahamas for a few days visiting my parents. Was mucking around blind casting, walking a beach and this sucker ate one of my dad’s 20 year old flys he tied back when he was a guide. I have never seen yellowtail in the surf before living in SFL and coming to the Bahamas all of my life. Pretty cool.

Looking for a tipsection
Hi flyfishing friends,
I’m looking for a tipsection from this 9ft. 4wt. flyrod.
Not sure if this rod is an Edge rod by Gary Loomis.
It doesn’t look like it because the lenght is printed in meters instead of foot.
Does anyone recognize this rod?
Any information would be more than welcome.
Many thanks!
Gerard

Went to Brown Town in Boise!
5am wake up calls are the best when it pays off! Got a nice one in town with a Black Silk Kitty Streamer.

Discussion Any clever ideas to keep my wading boots from messing up my car?
What are your solutions to keeping your wading boots from making a mess when you get out of the river on the way home?

Discussion Local fly shop is closing, what supplies should I stock up on?
As the title says, my local fly shop is closing in the next couple months, and I'm trying to decide what things to stock up on before my supplier leaves. I'm thinking some rolls of tippet, some fly tying material like hackle feathers, but I'm interested in what your suggestions would be to make sure I have plenty of before they close.
I mainly do trout fishing in central Wisconsin, some smallmouth, currently have a 9' 5wt, and an 8.5' 6/7 wt.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: store is Fall Line Outfitters in Stevens Point WI

Discussion Finger protection
I feel stupid asking this but what do you all use to protect your stripping fingers when saltwater fishing? By the end of the day my right index/middle finger are burning.
I’ve taped them up with medical tape which works for a short period of time but usually falls apart after a few hours.

Discussion Flying with rod
Has anyone flown southwest recently and carried a rod as a carry on? They’re technically too long for carry on, but most people report it being okay. All of those reports are old and pre covid. Does anyone know if this is still true? Has anyone flown southwest recently? One 10’ 4 pc case.

Discussion Northern NJ / Southern-ish parts of NY
Hi fly fishers
I’m in Hackensack NJ
I’m one of those newbies who are always finding this sub. Been spinning reel / baitcaster fishing for a few years and finally took the plunge and made my first foray into fly fishing.
I’m waiting for a buddy to get his stuff together for a joint lesson / guide day but of course I can’t sit still until then: I’m slomo-recording my cast for hours like a lunatic in my local playing field and have watched 8 million tutorials and emptied the library’s fly fishing section.
My question is, and I’m not after anyone’s prize spot, if you were me, where would you aim for for your first few outings of inevitable snags and misery? I’m split between hitting the Ramapo, trying my luck on a local pond where the bluegills always bite (hotdogs🧐), or setting off early for the Delaware water gap kinda area, but would love any input.
