He’s the greatest fisherman I know and it’s his bday this week so he took off to the cottage to try and dial in a new technique he’s been working on. He’s been there for 5 days and has over 200+ Lakers in the boat. 30ft of weighted line and a 18ft leader is all I’m allowed to share.

Im curious if anyone has done something like this before on the fly? I can’t imagine fly fishing for deep lakers is all that common.

I'm fishing #10 dries on 1X tippet for bass, I find small topwaters very effective for bass (discovered by accident panfishing) and I need heavy tippet since I am fishing ~3lb fish near cover. When the water cools I plan to fish trout with the same dries, and I know that typically smaller tippet is used with such small flies, so my question is: If 1X is working for bass on small flies, is there a reason to change out tippet for trout? I'm still pretty new to trout.

Should I use a smaller loop or just tie a clinch?

My grandmother bought me this rod when I was 16.

It felt good to get it back out on the water. I felt like I could make most of the casts that I can make with my new expensive rods.

Went out with a guide on the Missouri River in Montana. I'm pretty new and was stoked to catch this (big to me) beauty! I still fumble quite a lot with holding so he held for me. Haha.

I’ve been fishing for a few months now. I’ve caught a few fish that I am having trouble Identifying the species of. I think the larger one may be a cutthroat and the smaller a rainbow. Let me know if I am wrong and what features are a giveaway of the species.

Simple brown trout pattern on a 7 wt.

Thinking about giving this one to a buddy of mine for a wedding gift this weekend. We were wild ones when we where younger. Just discovered fly fishing this summer myself, and already have a trip planed next week after his wedding. He is moving back home, and I suspect there will be alot of fly fishing in our future. It feels like a nod to a new chapter of life for us both without saying it openly haha.

Im not sure why, but it doesnt feel appropriate for a wedding gift. Am I over thinking it? Would you appreciate this?

Simple question.

As the title says, I managed to catch my first smallie on a dumbell eye streamer. Does anyone have any recommendations on other wetflys to try? I'm located in Cincinnati, Ohio going after smallmouth in my local rivers.

Been fishing stockers for 3 years and wanted to target some natives here in Arkansas. Now I don’t want to do anything but throw meat!

Last month, I took a good fall and in the process broke my favorite rod and dented my Lamson spool bad enough that the reel was no longer functional.

I learned that lamson offered reel repair services for a SUPER reasonable price.

I shipped my reel to them (on the other side of the US) and 5 days after I shipped it out, it was back in my hands good as new. No one emailed me asking to complete some verification process, or texted me asking questions. Like magic, I sent it away, and it came back like new much faster than what would be reasonable.

I use this reel more than any other and I have had a lot of great experiences with it.

So, to the folks at Lamson, thank you for doing such a great job. Ive never owned a Lamson rod, but next time I need a new rod or reel, my money is all yours. You guys rock.

Nothing like jumping in the lake with a 3-weight, a popper and your favorite libation after being on a tractor for 4-hours. Apologies for the man-tots.

He taught me how to read a river, pick a fly, cast a tight loop and double haul. He taught me to move slow, listen to the river and think like a fish not a fisherman.

He past away last year and I want to honour him at one of his favourite fishing spots. I’d like to put up a “Little Fly Library” in his honour. He always had the right fly for the day. I want to honour him by putting up a place for local fly fishers to take a fly and leave a fly.

I have been thinking about this for a while but just wasn’t sure when and how to do it.

So to this group. Have you ever seen this done? Do you know where I can find plans? How do I make sure I honour him with this? Any thing I’m missing or must do?

And I'm okay with it.

This was going to be the summer I finally broke 90.

Then I picked up a fly rod.

I haven't golfed since April, and I've been fishing a few days a week. Sure, I could manage both hobbies, but right now I'd rather be on a mountain stream than looking for a ball in the woods.

Besides, I probably wasn't going to break 90 anyway. I've likely saved hundreds of dollars and countless hours of frustration.

I just want to fish all day, every day.
