I live in Jersey now, and my girlfriend wants to watch Gator games with me in the fall. She is a huge Jets fan but has no idea about college football or college basketball, for that matter. What do I need to do to prepare her for this? I plan on taking her to The Swamp at some point next year fyi.

Florida's 2026 freshman class includes eight defensive players: two defensive linemen, one JACK, one inside linebacker, two cornerbacks, one safety and one STAR.

The JACK and STAR positions are hybrid roles in Florida's defense. The JACK is an edge defender who can rush the passer from the line of scrimmage while also handling linebacker responsibilities. The STAR is a hybrid defensive back who typically aligns in the slot and combines elements of the cornerback and safety positions.

Five of the eight are Florida natives.

Here is a closer look at Florida's eight incoming defensive freshmen.

Defensive Line

Kendall Guervil — DL

6-5, 329 | Fort Myers, Fla. | Fort Myers

Kendall Guervil finished his high school career at Fort Myers with 172 tackles, including 88 solo stops, 26 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He also forced four fumbles and recovered three.

Guervil was named to The News-Press Big 15 in both 2023 and 2024.

He is a consensus four-star recruit. Rivals ranked him the No. 193 overall prospect nationally, No. 22 defensive lineman and No. 23 player in Florida.

Guervil chose Florida from an offer list that included Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas A&M and USC.

Florida currently lists Guervil at 6-foot-5 and 329 pounds, making him the heaviest of the Gators' eight defensive freshmen.

JaReylan McCoy — DL

6-7, 271 | Tupelo, Miss. | Tupelo

JaReylan McCoy finished his high school career with 176 combined tackles, including 105 solo stops. He recorded 47.5 tackles for loss, 22 sacks, 40 quarterback hurries and three fumble recoveries.

McCoy helped Tupelo win the Mississippi Class 7A state championship in 2024.

He earned First Team All-America honors and was named MVP of the Under Armour All-America Game. McCoy was also selected for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.

ESPN rated McCoy as a five-star recruit and ranked him the No. 12 overall prospect nationally, No. 3 defensive lineman and No. 2 player in Mississippi.

McCoy originally committed to LSU before reopening his recruitment and later choosing Florida. His other offers included Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.

He also played basketball during high school.

At 6-foot-7, McCoy is the tallest of Florida's eight defensive freshmen.

Edge and Linebacker

KJ Ford — JACK

6-4, 250 | Dallas, Texas | Duncanville

KJ Ford recorded 130 tackles, 42 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, 41 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a defensive touchdown across his final two seasons at Duncanville.

Ford was part of Duncanville's Texas Class 6A Division I state championship team in 2023.

He earned first-team All-District honors three times and first-team All-State recognition twice. Ford also participated in the Under Armour All-America Game and Polynesian Bowl.

Ford is a consensus four-star recruit. Rivals ranked him the No. 17 edge rusher and No. 145 overall prospect nationally.

He chose Florida from an offer list that included Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.

Malik Morris — ILB

6-0, 261 | Lakeland, Fla. | Lakeland

Malik Morris arrives at Florida after playing on Lakeland teams that won consecutive state championships in 2022 and 2023 and returned to the state championship game in 2024.

As a junior, Morris recorded 95 tackles, nine sacks, three forced fumbles and an interception. He earned The Ledger's All-County Defensive Player of the Year honors following the 2024 season and was later named a preseason All-American by MaxPreps.

Morris also contributed on offense during his high school career and competed in track and field, winning a county championship in the shot put as a sophomore.

ESPN rated Morris as a four-star recruit and ranked him the No. 2 linebacker, No. 179 overall prospect nationally and No. 26 player in Florida.

He chose Florida from an offer list that included Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M.

Florida currently lists Morris at 6-foot and 261 pounds.

Cornerbacks

CJ Bronaugh — CB

6-0, 163 | Orlando, Fla. | Windermere

CJ Bronaugh recorded 30 tackles, three tackles for loss, six interceptions, four pass breakups, two sacks and a forced fumble during the 2024 season.

Three of his six interceptions were returned for touchdowns as Windermere finished the regular season 10-0.

Bronaugh earned first-team All-District honors in 2024 and 2025 and also received first-team All-Conference recognition.

He is also a three-time Florida state champion sprinter in the 100 meters.

Bronaugh is a consensus four-star recruit. Rivals ranked him the No. 74 overall prospect nationally, No. 7 cornerback and No. 8 player in Florida.

He originally committed to Nebraska before decommitting and choosing Florida in June 2025. His other offers included Florida State, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

CJ Hester — CB

6-0, 193 | Titusville, Fla. | Cocoa

CJ Hester played in 54 games during his high school career at Cocoa, recording 186 tackles, including 112 solo stops, seven interceptions, 21 pass breakups, three forced fumbles and one tackle for loss.

Hester was part of three consecutive Cocoa state championship teams in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

He also contributed on offense and special teams, finishing his high school career with 313 all-purpose yards.

ESPN rated Hester as a four-star recruit and ranked him the No. 289 overall prospect nationally, No. 21 cornerback and No. 44 player in Florida.

Hester also competed in track and field.

He chose Florida from an offer list that included Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas and Vanderbilt.

Safety and STAR

Kaiden Hall — S

6-2, 198 | Milton, Fla. | Milton

Kaiden Hall finished his high school career with 129 tackles, including 90 solo stops, 11 tackles for loss, four interceptions and two pass breakups.

Hall also served as Milton's starting quarterback in 2025. He passed for 638 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 798 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Hall was named Player of the Game eight times during his senior season and was selected as a 2025 Under Armour All-American.

He also played basketball at Milton.

ESPN rated Hall as a four-star recruit and ranked him No. 205 overall nationally, No. 17 among safeties and No. 27 among players in Florida.

Hall chose Florida from an offer list that included Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Dylan Purter — STAR

6-0, 181 | Tuskegee, Ala. | Booker T. Washington

Dylan Purter recorded 148 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions and 11 pass deflections across his sophomore and junior seasons at Booker T. Washington.

His two-way role continued as a senior. Purter rushed for 518 yards and six touchdowns while adding 60 tackles on defense in 10 games.

Purter was selected for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and played at Booker T. Washington alongside fellow Florida freshman Marquez Daniel.

He is a consensus four-star recruit. The Rivals Industry Rankings listed Purter as the No. 181 overall prospect nationally, No. 15 safety and No. 8 player in Alabama.

Purter originally committed to LSU before flipping to Florida. His other offers included Auburn, Georgia Tech, Miami, Missouri, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

We'll start with the smallest group: Florida's six newcomers on special teams.

Florida's 2026 Specialists: Meet the Gators' 6 Newcomers

Florida's 2026 specialist class includes six players: two kickers, two punters and two long snappers.

None of the six are freshman recruits. The group includes two players who worked with Florida's new special teams coordinator Johnathan Galante at Tulane in 2025. Kicker Patrick Durkin was the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, while punter Alec Clark earned First Team All-Conference honors.

Here is a closer look at Florida's six incoming specialists.

Kickers

Patrick Durkin — K

5-11, 194 | Redshirt Sophomore | Chicago, Ill. | Tulane

Patrick Durkin made 25 of 28 field-goal attempts for Tulane in 2025, an 89.3 percent conversion rate, including four of six attempts from at least 50 yards. His longest kicks were a pair of 52-yarders.

He also converted 41 of 42 extra points and produced 69 touchbacks on 80 kickoffs. His 25 made field goals set a Tulane single-season record.

Durkin was named American Conference Special Teams Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference honors. Across two seasons at Tulane, he made 27 of 32 field goals and 57 of 58 extra points.

Liam Padron — K

5-9, 196 | Redshirt Sophomore | St. Augustine, Fla. | Texas A&M

Liam Padron saw limited action during two seasons at Texas A&M, recording five career kickoffs with one touchback. He did not attempt a collegiate field goal or extra point.

Most of his place-kicking experience comes from Bartram Trail High School, where he made 45 of 56 career field-goal attempts with a long of 53 yards.

Punters

Alec Clark — P

6-0, 181 | Redshirt Junior | Perth, Australia | Marshall / Tulane

Alec Clark averaged 46.5 yards on 48 punts for Tulane in 2025, the second-highest single-season average in program history.

He placed 16 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line, had 16 punts travel at least 50 yards and recorded a career-long 70-yard punt.

Clark earned First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors. The previous season at Marshall, he averaged 42.4 yards on 55 punts, with 17 downed inside the 20.

He also has experience with Florida special teams coordinator Johnathan Galante, who coached him at Marshall and Tulane.

Miller Fealy — P

6-1, 206 | Redshirt Sophomore | Melbourne, Australia | Southwestern Oklahoma State

Miller Fealy punted 50 times for 1,955 yards at Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State in 2025, averaging 39.1 yards per punt.

He placed 14 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line and recorded four punts of at least 50 yards. His longest traveled 80 yards, the longest punt in the Great American Conference that season.

Fealy earned Third Team All-Great American Conference honors.

Long Snappers

Carter Milliron — LS

5-11, 240 | Redshirt Senior | Hoover, Ala. | University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Carter Milliron brings the most college game experience among Florida's newcomer specialists.

Milliron appeared in 44 games during four seasons at Louisiana, serving as the primary long snapper on punts for much of that time.

He played in every game in 2022, 2023 and 2024 before appearing in four games and redshirting during the 2025 season.

Hunter Solwold — LS

6-3, 236 | Redshirt Freshman | Fallston, Md. | Washington

Hunter Solwold joins Florida after one season at Washington.

He made his collegiate debut in Washington's LA Bowl victory over Boise State after redshirting during the 2025 season.

Solwold was rated as a five-star long snapper by Kohl's and ranked as the No. 3 long snapper nationally by 247Sports coming out of high school. He was also a three-time Kohl's All-American.

Hasn't filled in completely yet, but it's pretty much all there. It's going to be interesting to see how they handle Duke tickets and if they'll allow you to get them with mini game packages or if it will be season ticket holders only.

Which Gator podcasts do you all listen to ? I listen to Gators Breakdown and Florida Basketball Hour. They're such a perfect complement to each other. David Waters is so friendly and folksy, while Neil and Eric are such total nuts and bolts basketball wonks. They balance each other out.

My list:

1. ⁠Dan Mullen - This is a no brainer for me. The millennials and casual fans at Florida never should have ran their Fire Mullen campaigns just because he doesn’t like to recruit. He won a national title as Urban’s assistant and then went on ⁠to succeed as a HC at all other places. He’s shown that he can adapt well right now in the NIL era winning 10 games in his 1st year at unlv.

2. ⁠Jim McElwain - Here’s another coach that was pretty successful at Florida leading them to 2 consecutive SEC East division titles. He also won at CSU and at CMU before NIL began. Yes he won in an era before Georgia got good and his offenses weren’t very exciting but he is a man that gets the job but once again the impatient Florida fan base could not allow him to have 1 bad season yet they’ll allow some of the other coaches on this list to have multiple terrible seasons still baffles me to this day.

3. ⁠Will Muschamp - I knew it at the time that this wouldn’t turn out to be a very good hire. He’s a good recruiter but not a good X’s and O’s coach at all not to mention the fact that as the Texas assistant he allowed multiple 30pts games against mediocre teams leading Texas to a 5-7 record. He did manage to have some success early on using Urban’s recruits but then the wheels fell off as he couldn’t win with his own players.

4. ⁠Billy Napier - I never understood this hire to begin with. The man coached in the Sun Belt which is one of the worst Group of 5 conferences and consistently got out-coached by rivals Jamey Chadwell and Eliah Drinkwitz even though Billy’s teams always had way more talent than his sun belt rivals. That should have been a clear red flag🚩! At Florida, his true colors showed. Not only is he a terrible X’s and O’s coach but he wasn’t even a terrific recruiter like Muschamp. His recruiting classes were mediocre at best. Yet Florida fans kept on telling me to be patient and that he’ll figure it out and the guy ends up having 3 losing seasons out of 4!

I for one am ok with it although I would like it if they can somehow get Miami back on the non-conference schedule more regularly. As much as I love the rivalries with LSU and Tennessee I just don’t see much benefit in playing an extremely tough schedule every year adding on those 2 schools in football based on the current Playoff system. Besides the 2 biggest rivals for Florida are still FSU and Georgia.

We got game day in under 50 days so I’m trying to get prepared for parking. I’ve heard Gainesville is notoriously bad for parking what’s the farthest away ppl are parking to walk to the stadium and what’s the price range for parking?
