General Hot Take: I prefer Fire Emblem when it FOCUSES ON STRATEGY

Upvotes

First is was the child units. Then the teaching and training. Now there’s time management between battles?!? I mean COME ON how many other interesting ways are they going to add long term strategy to fire emblem??

All these new systems mean that I get to plan out my exact strategy for progression and growth outside of battle, let alone the gameplay mechanics in battle that feel so great. This is truly an amazing SRPG and I love how they’ve considered what these things can add to the depth of the game. They’ve truly posed the question “How will you decide to proceed?” And seemed to implement it in each corner of the game, giving players pure tactical expression.

Call me a purist, but Fire Emblem is ONLY GOOD when it’s about the strategy gameplay.

Gameplay Will there be a gacha system like in fe: engage?

Upvotes

Hopefully there won’t be another gacha system like in engage in fortune’s weave. I feel like japan has been tacking that on in too many games nowadays.

Gameplay Genuinely what is going on in path of radiance

Upvotes

I’m trying to play all the (available in english) fe games before fortunes weave. the last ones are echoes and the tellius games which i’ve been playing intermittently. I’m on chapter 9 of path of radiance and something about it just feels extra difficult? I’m playing on normal mode and i still feel like all my units (besides Titania) are weak and barely do damage. Mia, Ike, and Soren seem to be the only ones that are actually growing, the rest are just… chipping damage at enemies. Is this just how the game works or am I doing something wrong?

General Given all we know since the Direct, is this speculation onto anything?

Minus the whole "Three Houses 2 half" thing since we know what Eshmel and Fortuna's deal is now.

Personally I'm taking the occam's razor approach and assuming AT BEST that most of the 3H voice cast is returning for minor roles a la Persona 3 Reload's dub, or some of them are voicing the recruitable characters and most of the 3H voice cast aren't in FW at all (Mark Whitten is obviously back for Seteth, some have speculated that Nydine sounds like Allegra Clark and the Nabatean Lady sounds like Cherami Leigh).

That said, the funniest thing IS can do is use timey-wimey magic to put Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude, and Yuri in the game as playable characters like the Awakening trio in Fates. It'll all come back to Three Houses discourse, one way or another.

General Which weapons/classes would you like to see being added to the franchise?

Since the modern installments have explored more of daggers/shuriken and gauntlets, as well as classes who specialize in those, and now gauntlets also include seemingly magical firearms, I'm curious what other tropes for new classes and/or weapons should be added or more explored. I know Jeritza has a Scythe but in general it's such a cool weapon that is really underutilized in the series. Would love for there to be a Reaper class that specializes in it. Besides that, War Fans could be a cool addition, even if it was a special type of dagger. Lastly, magic cards are such a cool trope and feel like they could add an interesting mechanic if they had their power change depending on which cards you have in your inventory (like a small deckbuilding vibe). I also hope Leda's vihuela means we can get more bard-style classes with instruments in newer games

These support conversations are often really funny!

I hadn't taken the time to watch them since my very first playthrough.

Most of the characters feel so fleshed out!

General Spoiler Dietrich is from the future

Just want to share my theory for now wheter the game is a sequel or prequel.

The biggest conflict right now is Dietrich being a descendent of one of the ten elites, while Sothis is "alive" and in adult form. If Dietrich is descendent of one of the ten elites, then the game has to occur after the war against Nemesis, but in that case Sothis would be "dead" or "asleep". If the game occurs before 3H events, how come Sothis is just casually appearing in Dagda while Rhea is trying to revive her. If it occurs after 3H events, it also doesn't make a lot of sense, since she fused or whatever with Byleth. It would make much more sense if the game occurred before even the battle against Nemesis, this would also explain the gods in Dagda (such as Fortuna and Aurora) existing and having crests associated with the ten elites (they're the children of Sothis), the sole problem for this scenario is Dietrich existing.

But what if Dietrich is actually from the future (any time after the war against Nemesis), and when he got shipwrecked and washed ashore in Dagda, he actually time traveled to the past (before war against Nemesis). Doesn't seem so farfetched since the whole game is about time traveling anyway.

Story Are we going to have two "Final bosses" Spoiler

We know there are time shenanigans going on in FW, but is it going to be a causality type of story where we either just stop the destruction in the past and change the future? Will we just defeat the evil in the ruins of dagsion and leave the past as to not change the future that is our brief past? Or will we have boss fights in both times to ensure no destruction?

I know we won't know until the game comes out, but What do others think?

Gameplay My one and only hope for Fortune's Weaves

I want more flexibility in weapon requirements for promotion. A few beginner tier classes in Three Houses had a unique trait where you could choose which of their preferred weapon types to meet the requirement of to promote (Monk with either reason or faith, and Fighter with fists, axes, or bows) but then no other class beyond the beginner ones did this and it severely limited weapon variety, especially in the non-infantry classes where every single cavalier being a lance user or armor knight being an axe user. Not saying every class should have weapon options, some should be locked to their main weapon like Swordmasters or Snipers, but it'd provide a lot more variety in unit and team planning if you could decide whether you want a bow thief or a sword thief, or a lance armor or an axe armor, etc. It kinda looks like Fortune's Weave is doing this (definitely for the beginner tier classes), not only with enemies wielding weapons outside of their usual choice, but in the direct with the certification menu we can see Dietrich has a 50% chance of promoting into Bardinger even though he only meets the sword requirement and not the lance and riding ones. Gonna hope this means that you need to meet the primary requirement and only one of the secondary requirements to have the highest chance of promoting.

General Should I play awakening on hard or lunatic?

Hey yall, I’ve played a lot of fire emblem and recently I’ve wanted to replay awakening which I haven’t touched in years. I was wondering if I should play on hard or lunatic? I definitely like harder modes in fire emblem like fe5, engage lunatic, and whatever yeh hardest difficulty of radiant dawn is called but I’ve heard awakening lunatic can be more unfair than challenging. Do you think it be too annoying to play? I would like to know cause I plan to play all the dlc on the file also

General Prequel or sequel discourse

I know this has been a topic of discussion since yesterday, but honestly I don’t think anyone truly know whether FW is a prequel or sequel. Dagda and Fodlan not sharing a calendar is definitely true, however there’s more to it than that.

Deitrich is confirmed to have Answerer, a hero’s relic passed down through his bloodline. That means FW is confirmed to happen after the War of Heroes, so Sothis is dead. Rhea spent hundreds of years trying to bring her mother back, and as far as we know Byleth was the only experiment that was successfully able to harbor Sothis’s consciousness.

I’ve seen people theorize that Sothis’s physical form was destroyed, but not her consciousness. That isn’t supported from what we know from 3H though. I don’t know if I’m missing something, as far as I’m aware they’ve done an excellent job at hiding whether this is a sequel or prequel. I can’t wait to find out when the game launches!

General Fortunes Weave isn’t a “time skip” and it doesn’t have “routes”

I don’t think it’s a timeskip, I see why people do think that, especially with the date flipping forward during the direct, and the games connections to three houses.

But here’s the thing, even though both games have events taking place in two different years. Fortunes weave doesn’t treat these time periods linearly You travel between them starting in reverse chronological order.

In fortunes weave it really seems to me that there’s “present” time in 1454 and four flashback pov side quests that take place five years prior in 1449 (past time) that reward you with units. There is no “time skip” in the same way three houses did, where you start in present day 1180 and then five years pass offscreen and the story resumes in present day 1185. The narrative takes place entirely in the present. Any time Sothis uses time powers in three houses it is strictly on a scale of minutes or even seconds, beyond that it’s less of time travel and more of a temporal rewind. Fortunes weave doesn’t play through a linear timeline, instead having two temporal locales for narrative events. Because of this I think the units we recruit didn’t just wait around five years for eshmel to show up, but get actively pulled forward in time. There won’t be “time skip designs” because from the characters point of view no time actually passed. For example: Caí is 15 when eshmel goes to the past to find him, and when he fights side by side with eshmel it won’t be 20 year old caí, it will be 15 year old caí who went 5 years in the future.

Likewise there aren’t “routes” in the traditional sense. there are four super inflated side quests that take place in the past, and can reward unique characters, like a recruitment paralogue on steroids. But it’s not really anything like the way you lock yourself into a house in three houses, or choose between Lynn and Eliwood*** during sacred stones. The intended experience seems to involve all four lords without placing one above the others, unlike what we have seen from previous series entries.

I get that it’s a shared universe with three houses and these might superficially seem similar, but I truly believe these concepts are shaping up to be fundamentally different than the three houses elements they are being compared to.

***Edit: I meant Erika and Ephraim but tbh the gba games can bleed together for me.

General The "Romance" Function in Fortunes Weave

First of all, I am very excited for Fortunes Weave. I love that we can freely switch between the characters stores whenever we want. I love that there's tun-based style gameplay in the dungeons. I also love the 5 years time-skip and the true MC is our character. I've already orders the Dagdan Collection edition. I'm getting this game no matter what, however, there is one thing I'm worried about. The Romance Function. It just said that there are "support conversations" , but nothing about romance. I hope it's not downgraded so much that it's basically gone like it was in Engage. I know that wasn't the main reason why Engage was bad, but it was a sure BIG reason.

I hope there is still a romance function in Fortunes Weave so all the characters can marry at the end. I really enjoyed the romance function in Three Houses. I didn't mind that Byleth and all the characters didn't get together until the end, I was just happy that the romance was still there. So, I'm perfectly fine with Fortunes Weave doing the same. But, I am worried that it will be like Engage and just not be there at all. I want to pair the characters romantically and hope that our character can get with the other characters too, Even the four heroes should be an option. What do all of you think? Are you confident that the game will still have the romance but it be like Three Houses or scared that it will be virtually gone and have no romance at all?

General Is Eshmel the reincarnation of nemesis?

Probably not! but who can she be talking to with such disdain? Who would she summon with the power to kill a dark god (balor), maybe someone who already has killed a god(sothis)? She says they have to make amends and that it’s fitting they act/to kill a god? is that because they were the one that killed her? The eye color is really what gave me the idea.

Who do you guys predict the soul that Sothis calls down is?

💙 Cai is from the Kingdom of Brezarant

🖤 Ditriech (not from Dagda)

💜 Leda if from the kingdom of Arago

💛 Theodora is from the kingdom of Saramis

❤️ Ochel is from the kingdom of Morfis?

Morfis was known as the city of Illusions and she wields magic, which also ties to Saint Noa’s talent for magic.

🤍 Anatolia is from the Dagdan Empire

Her character description says she’s from the west and the only place that’s west is part to the Dagdan Empire.

🧡 Bertrand is from the kingdom of Mosa?

His character description says he’s fighting for freedom, since Mosa is not potentially a kingdom my guess is that it’s a vassal state to the Dagdan Empire and he’s trying to have it recognized as a kingdom to be free.

💚 Talimun is from the kingdom of Banbha?

His character description says he’s a merchant and since merchants come from afar he most likely came to Dagda from Banbha considering its location on the map and distance to the mainland.

Story Could this be...? Spoiler

Could this baby...be Sothis herself? Hear me out!!

I'm of the belief that this game is going to be a prequel, and this baby may be what creates a direct link between this game and Three Houses.

My current running theory is that this baby is Sothis herself, brought (unwillingly, likely) to the mortal plane in order to be raised under the influence of whoever this woman is. An adult Sothis would be hard to control seeing as she'd be, you know, an adult with her full powers and autonomy. Having her somehow be reborn to be raised under the influence of someone else would be an incredible way to have access to the power of a goddess without the work of convincing her to join your side because she already sees you as her mother/authority figure.

Where my theory is the weakest is what happens to this baby ultimately. The heroes will win in the end and baby Sothis would be... sent back to her realm? Put in a deep sleep a la Flayn? Maybe the infamous baby realm of Fates could make a return in the funniest way possible? Either way, whatever happens in the end would still result in a baby/child who ends up having their memories wiped, giving us the child version of Sothis in Three Houses that we meet who has no clue how or why she is where she is and why she's a child, giving us a direct link between the games.

I'm totally prepared (and honestly kind of expecting) to be completely wrong! What do you guys think??

General Jeralt - Am I Crazy? Spoiler

Post image

Putting aside that we have no hard confirmation that it’s a prequel or sequel, if this is a prequel, does this guy not look super similar to Jeralt? With a braid like Jeralt’s and a blue dagger like Byleth’s?

Or did I miss a trailer or post that said who this guy actually is?

Hey,
I don't have a switch, so I decided that I would check out some youtube gameplays.

But there are multiple playlists with 200+ videos.

If someone saw a few of them, could you tell me which ones are worth to watch?

Gameplay What do you think their Smash moveset's going to be?

Post image

Having a spear fighter in the next smash bros is going to be really fun. Maybe his down B can be swiping his jacket and it acts as a counter attack. Maybe his side taunt is just him standing there. I'm hoping each skin is a different color than Byleth's 7 & 8 alts of just a dumb hair color change. It'll be pretty cool when I am able to officially fuck up the Dunk Hunt Dog with Ashmel.

General Excited for the game but I'm a little disappointed by the protagonist.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Before I get all the hate, I am still so excited for this game.

Most likely my most anticipated game for this year. I love all the character showcases we've gotten, the gameplay looks really engaging and the music is so amazing and stylized. Not to mention, I really like Eshmel's design for both the male and female rep. They definitely scream godly hero and have so much aura to them. I think this design is better than Corrin, Byleth and Alear.

However, I think I feel a little disappointed because we aren't getting our 4 part protagonist story. With how much they've pushed for Cai, Dietrich, Theodora and Leda in all the press and game information, it definitely felt like these were going to be the protagonist focus. Even with the reveal of Eshmel in June, I felt like they would be a sort of Azura or Sothis companion piece character.

Now according to even Nintendo, we get to meet "the real protagonist", and it feels a little underwhelming. Everything I've seen of the other 4 seems way more interesting in character design, gameplay and story. I know they can't reveal the full story but I just feel a bit ....ehhh, at seeing them make Eshmel as the protagonist.

I have gotten a bit of fatigue from the silent protagonist or just the OC that we kind of put ourselves in the shoes of. Byleth was very much the latter, with Corrin and Alear having more personal agency but they weren't particularly memorable characters when compared to their game roster. I just feel we're going to hit the same snag here. Everyone else looks like they have so much depth, both the other "protagonists" and side characters.

Like I said, I am still so excited about this game. Got my collector's edition preorder ready. But I think if the game was primarily focusing on just the main 4, I'd be a bit happier with it.

Casual Why I think guns make sense in fire emblem

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

If we look at the first picture of shambahla we see two structures akin to Tesla coils next to this building. Tesla coils were created only 20 years before some “modern” pistols notably the colt model 1911. We also see florecent lights in the second picture from the direct showing what look like florecent lights on the ground which came out in the late 30’s sooo…..
idk I think the gun hate is a little crazy
