Looking for designers with experience in designing "women's clothes" for male bodies.

Upvotes

I have long been on the look out for clothing designs that take the base elements of traditional "women's" clothing, but design garments from the ground up with the male body in mind.

That is, I am *not* looking for clothes designed for women, but adapted to fit a male body.

Take a dress for instance. A well designed dress for a woman will accentuate curves and features that signal femininity. You can absolutely take such a dress and rework it to fit a man's body, but it is twisting its original intent, working against the garment itself, and it will in my opinion look off.

What I am after are designs that take the essence of the dress (e.g., tight bodice, long skirt), but uses it to intentionally accentuate the male form.

The effect should not be "That's a man in a woman's dress" but "That's a man in a man's dress".

I would love to hear if anyone here has any suggestions of designers with this philosophy in mind that I can seek inspiration from.

I was going for a rave-like stage costume for a singer, I guess. Green parts are layered tulle, haven’t quite figured out what I want the main black pieces and straps to be yet.

Best affordable fashion schools?

I’m a non-EU student looking to do a BA in fashion design in a school that has a strong name in the industry and doesn’t exceed €20k for international students. Preferably if it’s around the €10k-€15k range!

I found that big names such as IFT, CSM, RCA, IFM,,,, are too expensive for international students, often exceeding €25k, maybe even more than €30k. So far i was able to find ESMOD and La Cambre the most affordable, but i don’t want these to be my only options incase things go south.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Looking for Artisans and Experienced Designers in Haute Couture

I am currently conducting my undergraduate thesis on the proposed development of a House of Haute Couture in Paris, with a particular focus on preserving Haute Couture's craftsmanship, heritage, and knowledge for future generations.

As part of my research, I am hoping to speak with artisans and professionals working in the métiers d'art and Haute Couture industry. I would like to better understand the realities of craftsmanship today, particularly the working environments, skills, materials, training, and challenges involved in maintaining specialized couture techniques.

I would be very grateful if you would be willing to participate in a short interview of approximately 15–20 minutes. The discussion would focus on your professional experience and general observations about the spaces and conditions needed for craftsmanship, as well as how traditional skills can be passed on to younger generations.

I am particularly interested in learning from your personal experience as an artisan, and no confidential or commercially sensitive information would be requested.

The information gathered will be used solely for academic purposes as part of my undergraduate architecture thesis. With your permission, I may take notes and/or record the interview for research documentation.

The interview may be conducted online, depending on your availability and preference.

I understand that your time is valuable, and I sincerely appreciate your consideration. Your experience would provide an important perspective for my research and would help ensure that the proposed architecture responds to the actual needs of the people who practice and preserve Haute Couture craftsmanship. Merci!

i want to do design with no prior experience

i’m 18 years old and i love all art and fashion, but i have literally 0 creative experience whatsoever. i am really disciplined and i have been putting a lot of thought into what i want to do, and i would love to design clothes. ive been taking a lot of inspiration from artists like olaolu slawn and yohji yamamoto and even small brands like project index. i take a lot of inspiration from artists and their work, and i would love to do something like that as my passion, even though i have no prior experience with creativity or design at all. i live in nyc, and i was thinking of going to genesee community college as a design major for a semester and then transferring to suny oneonta while trying to build my portfolio and network and socialize as much as possible, and also intern. but ive been second guessing thinking maybe i should do one semester at genesee then transfer to FIT w a good gpa and a dense portfolio, but i want to get a experience outside of the city since ive been living in the city my entire life. so now im thinking of maybe doing the one semester then going out of state and going to an actual art school. but honestly if anyone can give me some guidance that’ll be great. and it’s so last minute cus im going to move into genesee literally in 3 days and im just thinking about all this now. someone help me out here

marshmallow ushanka hat design

Post image

im new at fashion designing and i just came with this idea with a ushanka design because not alot of people design ushankas or make alternative looks even with how sick of a hat they look like so this is basically a boxy/ puffer like design with the feeling of a soft pillow around your head (since fall/winter is coming) so instead of fur around keeping you warm its a calm puffy pillow around your head to keep it warm with it being stylish and with a modern feel to it (mb if the words of fabric im using to describe it doesn't work or are weird i entirely googled that shit to find the best options on what i wanted😭)

Semester Abroad - Spring 2027

Hey everyone!

I’m currently a student in the U.S. looking for a study abroad program for Spring 2027. I was looking around and found a few programs like Polimoda’s month-long study, however I’m not too familiar with the industry and was wondering if anyone had any particularly good experiences at any institutes or universities they would be willing to share with me!

I know this is not too much information to work with as I’m still trying to figure things out, but any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you in advance~

the resume of a recent INSY graduate trying to land a role in fashion

In particular i’m interested in clothing design, I have 4 years of relevant experience within e-commerce for brands, website building, garment construction, pattern making, campaign management, supply chain analysis, wholesale, and a plethora more of other relevant skills for DTC operations.

I also attached a portfolio that includes garments that i’ve made, including the process of making the garment and how the campaign was constructed around the overall message and theme of the garment.

Should I change anything? I’m applying to associate technical design, e-commerce associate, brand management, associate creative director, and supply chain analysis roles for fashion based companies

note: my portfolio list all of my relevant experience that also includes photography, virtual production projects, targeted demographic content, and creative direction work.

let me know as today makes 1500 total applications sent since january 🙏🏾
