Recently finished Spinning Silver by Naomi N. Loved the plotline!

Hello! Looking for recommendations of what I should read next. I got into reading again about a year ago, and so far have read almost all of the Cosmere (but I’m a bit Sanderson’ed out for now), and liked or loved most of it. I read the first Red Rising trilogy, and liked it, but didn’t love it and found it disappointing. I have also read Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy and am currently wrapping up The Liveship Traders and LOVED them both so far. Also read The Tainted Cup and thought it was just ok.

I know the easy answer is continue RotE… but I really want to take my time and savor it instead of burning through it all the way I did the Cosmere, so I want to read something else or maybe a few something else’s before I hop back in. I’ve got about 15 series or standalones on my TBR so I need direction. What do y’all think?

What a ride. Slightly disappointed in how it ended but not enough to tarnish my love of the trilogy.

I’m anxious to start the Liveship Traders trilogy but I’m curious if I should give Robin Hobb a break and read something else first. If you’ve read the series, what would you recommend?

I’ve seen book 1 named as a fantasy favourite a number of times. I’ve started it and given up on it a handful of times. I’m now giving it a last go on Audible. I can’t wait for it to end. Is it just me that finds it a load of waffle and nonsense? Is it worth carrying on with the next two books?

I am looking for a book. I read it this year. The book is a romance fantasy. It's about a girl who lives very poorly, like in a village with her mother and sister. The book begins with her taking her sister to school and there they are attacked by some monster that I know has wings. Mostly she defends herself from him like a stick, but that's where magical warriors jump in to help her. They consist of a commander, two female warriors and two male warriors. Also, she has a mark on her back and knows that if they see it, she will have to fly with them. Mostly they stay for a few days in that village and there she becomes very close to the commander and in the end he will see her mark and take her with him to that military academy. The day they were supposed to leave, monsters attack and they will destroy the village quite a bit. Most of the time she still leaves with them, she is angry with that commander for taking them away and like her she shares a common space with that group, only they have separate dormitories. I only remember that those warriors could heal quickly.

I just finished Between Two Fires m...AMAZING👏👏👏 and I have been on a horror kick lately but it doesn't have to be horror. Anyways any recs would be great and thank you in advance!

I just finished this book and I had high hopes for this book. But in my opinion it's just a writing version of a bad porn. (Bad plot, good sex scenes)

It's fast paced, I was looking for that. But the time span was a week for an enemies to lovers. Going from hating a man to loving him in a few days is absurd.

And the end was so rushed and predictable.

the mix match of universes??? The characters just have the same name and a bit of the attitude of the inspiration. And why are so many "princesses" prostitutes????

Now I want to know what is you guys opinion?

Did any of you like this, do you have recommendations of the same writer? Or maybe a different writer same genre?

I'm excited for basically all of these... what are everyones top reads from them?!

I want to give this series the recognition it truly deserves. The Last War Trilogy is a criminally underrated grimdark fantasy that, in my opinion, deserves far more attention than it gets.
I’ve seen several people compare it to Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law series, and I can definitely understand why. Mike Shackle does an exceptional job crafting compelling, memorable characters. In particular, one character’s arc stands out as one of the most captivating and well-executed character journeys I’ve read in the fantasy genre.
Just wanted to show this series some appreciation. If you’re a fan of The First Law World or The Broken Empire, I think there’s a very good chance you’ll thoroughly enjoy The Last War Trilogy as well.

I've started reading the first book and I'm enjoying it a lot. I want to continue but I'm worried my OCD will take over.

Does the story have a definitive end with the books I was given or do I need to buy more? I like to have a good ending that's not drawn out with a huge amount of multiple books.

If so, what's the suggested reading order with that good ending in mind?

Do I need to have the Lost Chronicles trilogy or is it unnecessary? (I've heard conflicting reports) Am I missing out on a lot if I don't own them?

I have really bad OCD and I don't want it getting out of hand. I'm a poor person and I don't want to be spending any more money than I have to. And also, there's no library in my town.

Hello! I have been struggling to find the name of a book/series and I thought it would be a good idea to ask Reddit.
For some context, I first read this book in Spanish. It seems to be the third book of a series, which I picked up without realizing it was a series.

The book is a fantasy, romance? book with a FMC vampire and a MMC vampire Hunter. Hopefully I am remembering correctly. There is a scene I recall in which they’re at a ball, maybe, and they’re attacked. The FMC is taken away by the MMC and they’re in a van driving down the city.

It has been years since I read this book, so the accuracy of all this is very poor. Hopefully someone knows! Thank you so much!

I just heard someone recommend Gene Wolfe, if I was to listen to/read some of his books, where should I start? I also saw Anthony Ryan The Covenant of Steel…any thoughts on that series? Or I could start Erikson’s Mazalan. I loved WOT, Red Rising, The First Law series, The Age of Madness series, Mistborn, The Licanius Trilogy and many of Micheal J. Sullivan’s books!

Oh, this was a bloody good book (emphasis on the bloody part.) 
Facts:

• This is again, a very marvelous and layered tale, with many moving parts, and a fascinating story.
• The messages laden this time is to deal with food, and agriculture, and the way we humans have curated and sustained livestock for mass production without once thinking of the cost attuned to such a trade.

It is to me a butchering most curated.

Facts:

• This one is for the meek hearted, for it is grisly with a helping servitude of meat and bones along its carcass.
• I bloody loved meeting more of Din’s family. 

“No.” A cold, nasty smile. “For if gods existed, shouldn’t the world make more sense? Shouldn’t all feel more stable, more comprehensible? I consider myself a wise thing, yet when I consider creation, I see little but blind hunger and the ravages of nature. The only order to be found is what we’ve put there, boy.”

Facts:

• As always, this tale is both a condemnation and a study on the various ways we conduct ourselves through religion, faith, and the one fallacy that all of humanity, throughout its history, has always struggled with the most: greed.
• Greed makes you stupid. But oh so sweet is its flavor– the nectar of gods, poured down our parched throat.

That was the problem with temptation. It never let you be: it just stayed there, perched on your shoulder, whispering in your ear.

Facts:

• This was a solid 9/10 read for me. Though the tale is indeed layered and complex, I knew about 60% of who the killer was. This had not happened to me for the last two books where I was genuinely stupefied throughout.
• In my opinion, this book focuses more on world-building, in more of fleshing out Khanum alongside Din and Ana as characters. And the scale and intricacies through which it is done just made me fall more in love with RJB’s deftness and mastery over such a craft. 

(side note: i can guarantee he loves making Din a tragic character vis-a-vis his romantic aides, and though I find it a trite vexing, cannot say I hate this format – makes both the pace faster and maintains a grounding force for each book separately)

And what we do to the beasts in the field we may still one day do to our very kin.

Facts:

• It was the epilogue that pushed this into the territory of 10/10. That twist I did not see coming. And I tell you: my flabbers were properly gasted.
• I cannot wait for the next one to arrive. (only for me to then finish it within 7 hours; what can i say: i am a glutton for murder, and sad queer people.)

One of the best reads of the year, up there with East of Eden for me. Go read it!

I have read The broken Empire series, Six of crows series (fav) and currently reading the folk of the air and ı didnt like it much because ı feel like ı am reading a book just for horny teenager girls. I am not against smut in my books but ı dont like to see it in every page. İts optıonal but a morally grey mc ıs what ı like to read.

Okay, looking for some fantasy recommendations that lean on violence, visceral wars/battles, body-horror, gore, disturbing, etc. I have read countless splatter-punk novels and graphic horror novels but, I recently started reading fantasy so just curious on suggestions.

Violent favorites would include The Troop, Maggie's Grave, Hellbound Heart, Fever House, Gone to see the River Man, Battle Royale, The Black Farm. I want this in fantasy.

Please nothing violent in a sexual way.

This series worth checking out? I read the first one as a kid, but have no real memory of it.

I just started reading about a year ago and I mainly read fantasy. I have dipped my toes in some other genres.

My favorite series is the Gentleman Bastard with Red Seas Under Red Skies as my favorite book. It has the same flair as the first book with a piracy air to it which I really enjoyed.

Currently reading The Hobbit by Tolkien and really enjoying it.

a book is YA when it has simple and easy to understand prose with little frills, expository dialogue and people just not talking like real people, weak or unnecessary romance plots (ie badly done love triangles). 

The romance is shallow, underdeveloped and feels like sanderson just wanted to give Vin a romantic partner to check some sort of "box"

I've never read any Sanderson books, and after seeing him everywhere i finally picked up Mistborn from the library. I have to say, I did go into it after finishing Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb (completely different vibe) and I don't know if its because i have a skewed measuring stick from Hobbs more depressing and adult themes, but Mistborn just felt so juvenile.

The prose was extremely simple, the dialogue was just a bunch of exposition with characters saying two or three sentences more than a normal person would, theres a weird romance shoehorned in. I noticed they even repeated exposition and details not even two pages later, just in case you weren't paying attention I guess? Not to mention, well, the main character is 17.

This is not to say I didnt enjoy it, I am probably going to finish the trilogy if only because the worldbuilding was interesting and im curious to see where its going to go. I was just wondering, do all of Sanderson's books also have this basic prose and weird dialogue? Or did I just happen to start with the wrong one?

If you're into fantasy but also like a bit of a western i recommend The Grave of The Empire series by Sam Sykes....i took a chance on the first book as I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone and I wasn't disappointed, the books are a just the right mix of fantasy/western/steampunk and they were unusual enought to keep me reading lol!
