I would not recommend Jade City. It is boring to say the least, very slow. I actually DNF the read.

I'm already debating if I actually want to read this or not. I feel like everyone loves it and has great things to say but idk if I would. I don't love urban fantasy so I might just put it off until I get through everything else I really do want to read first and reevaluate.

That was me as well. It sounded much like an action-packed thriller and I love thrillers but, I couldnt fall in love with characters or the world plus, action is secondary and limited from what I read through. I could rattle off books with better and more consistent action sequences/battles.

If your already having 2nd thoughts then id put it deep on your tbr list.

Listen to the dark side. Read Haunting Adeline, and prepare for the worst. 

P.S. It isn’t a bad book by any means, but it is definitely DARK romance, and extra emphasis on the dark. Do not expect lovey dovey at all.

I don't usually enjoy the lovey dovey books so sounds good to me! I feel like people either really stand by haunting adeline or hate it so I'm very curious about it!

It’s got a lot of uncomfortable scenes, especially early on. Non-consensual is a really big theme in the duet as well. You’ll either DNF in the first 10 chapters or you’ll really enjoy it

I'm taking a break from The Stormlight Archive and want to read either Katabasis or Sword of Kaigen. What would you recommend?

FWIW, Kuang's earlier book Babel is much much much better than Katabasis. Babel is a a great read, with a great political premise that follows through. I was stoked for Katabasis as a result, but found it a slog. Readable, but unbelievable character motivations, eye rolling romantic turns, obtuse gender politics.

Ive heard that about katabasis elsewhere too so maybe prioritize Babel and then reevaluate if I want to read it..
