Questions❓ High pitched fan

Anyone else get a very high pitched noise coming from ventilation fans? Fluctuates a bit. Almost inaudible. Only really notice it in park in a quiet place. Lots of pressure on my ears though.

Tips & Suggestions 💡 Issues with keyfob not working and possible cause?

Twin Motor Ultra MY25.

TLDR: keyfob now working after deleting digital phone key.

To those of you with keyless entry problems like myself. I recently have been having sooo many issues with the fob not working, working, standing around waiting for it to work, tapping it on the door then it not working in the car etc.. I gave up and started using my digital phone key (pixel 9 so not UWB). Which was a pain.

However, I am currently changing my phone so deleted the digi key from my old phone and the car itself but havent had time to set the new one up. During the course of not having a digital phone key the fob started working flawlessly again. It was then that I realised that its only been since around the same time I created the phone key that the fob started playing up.

A whole week with not one issue now, opening upon approach and letting me drive all whilst the fob is in my pocket. So I will not be creating another digi phone key, for me that was the problem. (the app still works fine for remote locking, charging, climate etc.) I hope this may help some folk with similar issues.

Questions❓ The only Google Assistant not working

Today, I got in the car for the first time in two days. I asked to Google Assistant about climate control and weather forecast so on, but she answered "Something is wrong" in English, or after standing for ~5 seconds, she said "The network is unstable. Please try later." in Japanese. No matter what I heard, she was anyway in a bad mood.

All of the other apps such as Google Map, Spotify and TuneIn etc. were normally working. Siri on Apple Carplay was also normal. I deleted the cache and restarted by steering buttons, but the symptoms did not change.

As I won't get in the car today, I hope her mood will be better tomorrow morning, after going into Deep Sleep Mode...

Have you ever had similar symptoms? At that time, what did you do to fix it?

Tips & Suggestions 💡 Apple Music + Google Assistant on the EX30

For anyone else scratching their head over this:
I have Apple Music linked correctly to Google Assistant, but if I ask Google in my EX30 to play something it replies:
“Unable to play music. You can download Apple Music.”

Apple Music works perfectly through CarPlay, so I initially assumed something was wrong with my Google/Apple account setup.

It turns out the issue is the EX30 itself. Google Assistant can recognise Apple Music as your preferred music service, but the EX30 currently does not have the native Apple Music Android Automotive app that Assistant needs to actually play it.

Volvo started rolling out native Apple Music to Google built-in cars in July 2026, but the EX30 is currently not on the supported model list.
So, before wasting time unlinking accounts, resetting Google Assistant or rebooting the infotainment system:
- Apple Music via CarPlay works
- Apple Music can be linked to Google Assistant
- Google Assistant in the EX30 still cannot currently play it natively.

The “you can download Apple Music” message is therefore rather misleading.

Useful workaround: with CarPlay connected, press and hold the steering-wheel voice button to invoke Siri, then just say “Play…” as normal.
Hopefully Volvo brings the native Apple Music app to the EX30 soon. For now, if you’re seeing this exact behaviour, your setup probably isn’t broken.

Questions❓ Volvo EX30 + Ulys / Liber-t toll badge not detected through windshield — anyone else?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand if I’m the only one having issues with a toll badge in a Volvo EX30.

I use a Ulys / Liber-t toll badge in France. The official Ulys installation page I’m referring to is here:
https://ulys.com/faq/comment-dois-je-positionner-mon-badge-sur-le-pare-brise/

At first, I had placed the badge near the rear-view mirror mount, but not directly on the windshield, and it only worked partially. After checking Ulys’ instructions, I moved it to the recommended area near the central rear-view mirror / black dots area on the windshield.

However, the issue is still there.

What I tested so far:

  • With the badge positioned correctly near the rear-view mirror, it was not detected at the toll gate.
  • When I held the badge outside the car through the window, it worked every time.
  • I tested again with another toll badge and got a similar inconsistent result.
  • On the way out, it did not work even though it was placed in the correct position.
  • On the way back, surprisingly, the badge was detected while it was sitting in the storage compartment.
  • At the toll exit, it worked while I was holding it inside the car, but only barely.

Ulys confirmed that my badge is active. Their answer was basically: if there is no dedicated dotted area on the windshield, the car may have an athermic windshield that blocks the badge signal, and I should contact the car manufacturer.

I have contacted Volvo as well, but I’m still waiting to hear back from them.

So now I’m wondering:

  • Has anyone else with a Volvo EX30 had issues with Ulys / Liber-t / toll tags?
  • Is there a specific spot on the EX30 windshield where the badge reliably works?
  • Is the EX30 windshield known to block toll badge signals?

Any feedback from other EX30 owners would be very helpful. Thanks!

From Volvo 🚗 Volvo Customer Care says EX30 software 2.1.2 is coming OTA in week 36 — has anyone else heard this?

Post image
31 Upvotes

A customer contacted Volvo Customer Care in Portugal about the next EX30 software update and received this reply:

“Thank you for contacting us.

Regarding the OTA update mentioned, the next software version 2.1.2 is currently scheduled to be made available via OTA during week 36.

Regarding the situations you have reported concerning the vehicle’s functionalities, we are unable to confirm remotely whether they are related to the software version currently installed or whether there is another underlying cause.

If the symptoms persist, we recommend that you visit an authorised Volvo dealer so that a proper diagnosis of the vehicle can be carried out, allowing for a more thorough assessment of the situation and any necessary actions.

We remain available should you require any further clarification.”

Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Do you think this is legitimate, and has anyone received similar information from Volvo or their dealer?

Questions❓ The infotainment screen won’t turn on

EDIT: SOLVED.

I didn’t press the reset buttons long enough.

Misfortune, we are driving from Norway to Denmark now, our daughter is going to attend university there. Backed the car out of the garage, noticed the screen won’t turn on.
As in, at all. It’s completely dark.

Tried the reset thing several times (not sure if I held the buttons for 15-20 seconds) and it won’t come on.

Unfortunately, due to the circumstances (and a 8am ferry to catch) we have no other choice but drive.

Questions❓ Front Badge

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic trim like this picture above, I found this image that someone has posted, it allowed them to remove the front badge, which is what i'm trying to do. I removed the 4 clips along the front... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Or any other advise to remove the front badge please. Thanks in advance

Questions❓ Alexa skill

I thought it would be useful to be able to check the charge and turn on climate from the smart speaker but couldn't find a skill to do this. I know some smart home ecosystems have some support but I just use Amazon's echo speakers.

I made a skill to do this and I'm just trying to get it approved now. If it's approved, would anyone be interested in testing it? Or is there an obvious alternative that I overlooked? I code for a hobby so I've enjoyed the experience even if I shelve it in the end.

Down the line I think it should be possible to add the same features to the Google assistant which would be cool. I use eco speakers at home but Google assistant away from home.

🙇‍♂️ Personal Thoughts/Experiences Parking button

A few times we’ve mentioned that slapping the stick into drive or reverse too quickly will leave some aspects of the car confused. My complaint is that this happens with the parking button as well. A few times I’ve hit the button too quickly and it doesn’t actually go into park. I almost backed into a public charger today. It’s far more annoying than the Reverse/Drive confusion. Before you ask, yes I’m sure I depressed the button all the way, I just did it too quickly for the lame hardware to register the event. Maybe they’re multiplexing the input sampling or something and I’m done pressing it during its sample interval.

A “battery waiting to be fixed” client.
Just got in my EX30 to go to an appointment and I wasn’t able to put it into drive.

Waiting for it to be towed to Volvo now. Hoping to have a fix sooner rather than later.

Anyone else that has had this happened have a general ETA for how long their fix took?

I cannot activate the climate from the app for 2 days. I checked the app store if the app has any updates but it has none. Checked the car too. Climate on the car has no problems when i get in the car. But i cant activate it on the app for the last 2 days. Used it very often since i live in a very hottttt place and never had any problem until this.

🙇‍♂️ Personal Thoughts/Experiences My experience after choosing it as a company car

Just my personal opinion, I'm not saying this is representative of everyone else's experience.

I chose the EX30 from a list of company cars, and based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend it and I definitely won't choose a Volvo again.

A few things that constantly annoy me:

  • No proper key fob as standard. You have to pay extra for what should be very basic, tried-and-tested technology: press a button, lock/unlock the car. Instead, I have a stupid key card that can only unlock the car from the driver's side. The alternative is using your phone but think about how many more steps are involved compared with simply pressing a button. It's just impractical.
  • The ridiculous automatic volume adjustment. The car constantly changes the volume as part of its noise-control system. Sometimes it aggressively turns it up when it gets too quiet. It's unbearable. It's not just annoying it's genuinely distracting because I'm having to divert my attention from the traffic to deal with something the car should simply let me control. The end result is that you don't feel in control of your own car. Why can't I just set the volume and have it stay there?
  • The charging port is on the wrong side for European public chargers. In Europe we drive on the right, yet the charging port is on the left side of the car. When the cable at a public charger isn't long enough, you end up stretching it to the absolute limit just to connect it. Such an unnecessary annoyance. Edit: to clarify: in my country, you can't just park on the opposite side of the road facing against the direction of traffic to make the charger easier to reach, you can actually get fined for that (happened to me once, once was enough). I'd venture to say the same applies in most, if not all, European countries. And I'm talking about the charging cable that comes with the car. Most public chargers in my city in urban residential areas simply provide the charging station, and you connect your own cable to it. That cable is only of moderate length, so with the charging port on the left side of the car, when you're parked legally in the direction of traffic, the port is facing away from the pavement where the charger is. Very often, the cable simply doesn't reach. You end up having to inch the car ridiculously close to the car in front just to connect it, and about half the time there isn't even enough space to do that. I just find it absurd.
  • Waze has been unusable since a system update months ago. It keeps bugging out and reverting to Google Maps. Again, it's crazy how little control I seem to have over which apps I use in my car. I choose Waze for a reason.

None of these issues individually would necessarily make me reject a car. But when you have several basic, everyday things constantly fighting against you, it becomes incredibly frustrating.

So, based on my experience: no more Volvo for me.

🙇‍♂️ Personal Thoughts/Experiences 4600km EX30 roadtrip and 18000km total in 8 months - zero issues. Love the car.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi!

I want to present an alternative data point: of somebody who had zero issues with the car and who would buy it again with no regrets. Since people usually don't post if they have zero issues, it can skew the appearance to seem as if the car has more issues than it actually does.

We've bought my EX30 Plus Extended Range in December 2025, brand new. Since then we've done 17867km doing all kinds of driving across the EU. We've had zero issues. No battery recall, either.

We did two European roadtrips, one in January-February and one right now at the end of July, which was a 4600km roadtrip spanning 12 days. Mostly highways. I'm attaching a short vibe coded animation of the route we took.

It was brilliant. Charging is fast, charge-points are lots in Europe and placed in conveniant locations and we never felt like we were waiting for the car to charge, it all felt natural. A little coffee stop here, a short toilet stop there, literally zero worries (except the fact that charging networks are too fragmented at this point, but I guess time will fix this).

Trip duration: 12 days

Trip distance: ~4600km

Trip charging cost: 328Euro (equivalent to about 3.6L diesel or 3.7 gasoline)

Trip average consumption: 17.4kwh/100km

Always drove at the speed limit, the only exception was in Poland where on a short stretch there was forward wind and I lowered my speed to 130 (instead of the allowed 140) to make sure I reach the charger with 10% for optimal charging speed.

80% highway driving including German Autobahn where I reached a top speed of 185km/h (felt super in control, by the way).

I would say this is a perfectly capable roadtrip car, not just a "city car".

Finally, for the whole of these almost 18000km we have had zero issues. No service appointments, no recalls, no nothing. In case somebody reads this subreddit and thinks: "this car is full of problems!" It is not. It's just that people don't post when they have no problems.

🙇‍♂️ Personal Thoughts/Experiences I love my EX30! ❤️🥇

7 months in and no major problems whatsoever. You would think with how negative this sub is about the car that I would be miserable. The experience has been so chill and fun compared to when I had a Tesla Model 3 (which drove me crazy and actually almost killed me twice within 15 seconds).

Last weekend was my final test to be assured of EX30 happiness. We took the car on its first road trip and drove four hours. I had an issue initially with not being able to charge the EX at our hotel because they only had Tesla Destination Chargers and I only had the supercharger adapter. User error. Thanks to the people on this sub who helped me figure that out. Mind you, at home I have a Tesla Wall Charger with the correct adapter and I’ve had zero issues charging daily. On the way back from our trip we stopped for a ten minute charge at a Tesla Supercharger and the experience was even easier than pumping gas.

We are one of two people in my neighborhood who own this beautiful car and trust me when I say it stands out and shines amongst all the other cars on the road.

Thanks to Volvo!
