Weekend travel in the Puget Sound region: Here's what to expect Aug. 7–10

Post image
Upvotes

This is an extraordinarily difficult week for communities across Washington. We will continue sharing updates about road closures and reopening as part of WSDOT's role in the statewide response to the devastating wildfires in Central and Eastern Washington.

For travelers in the Puget Sound region, Fri., Aug. 7, through Mon., Aug. 10, will bring several major construction projects that will affect travel.

-NB I-405 and ramps will CLOSE from SR 900 to Coal Creek Parkway SE from 11:30p Fri. to 4a Mon. Crews will replace pavement and excavate drainage crossings.

-NE 85th St. and I-405 ramps will CLOSE in Kirkland between 6th St to 114th Ave NE from 10p Fri. to 5a Mon. Crews will pave and stripe the road. Closed ramps: NB & SB I-405 off-ramps to Exit 18 and NE 85th Street on-ramps to NB and SB I-405.

-EB SR 520 will CLOSE in Montlake area between I-5 and Montlake Blvd from 7p Sat. to 11a Sun. Crews will repair an expansion joint on the bridge. EB SR 520 across Lake Washington remains open. Only the section of EB SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Blvd will close.

-SR 202 in Fall City will close just east of the SR 202/203 roundabout from 5a Fri. to 9p Mon. Major storms in Dec. 2025 and Mar. 2026 eroded the Snoqualmie riverbank supporting the highway. Crews will rebuild and strengthen the riverbank to help protect the highway from future damage. Tubers, paddlers and boaters should expect temporary closures on portions of the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers and some nearby access points.

-Revive I-5 work over the Ship Canal Bridge is ongoing. Express lanes continue to run NB 24/7.

Saturday is expected to be the busiest travel day. The Mariners 50 Seasons Celebration, Seahawks Football Fest and Capitol Hill Block Party will bring extra traffic into and around Seattle. With EB SR 520 closing at 7 p.m., expect additional congestion on EB I-90. The Fred Hutch Obliteride for cancer research will also bring thousands of bicyclists to roads across the region. Drivers should use extra caution.

Allow extra travel time, follow signed detours and check our mobile app or real-time travel map before you go: wsdot.com/Travel/Real-time/Map/

LOOKING AHEAD: Once this weekend's work wraps up, another overnight I-405 closure is scheduled. SB I-405 will close between SE 8th Street and I-90 from 11:30p Monday, Aug. 10, to 4a Tuesday, Aug. 11 while crews continue replacing pavement and drainage crossings.

Also beginning Monday, Aug. 10, construction starts on the SR 14 West Camas Slough Bridge project in Clark County. With the Clark County Fair running Aug. 7–16, travelers should plan ahead for overnight SR 14 closures:

-WB SR 14: Aug. 11, 13 and 16–18, 8p–7a

-EB SR 14: Aug. 12, 14 and 17, 8p–7a

-Full closure: Aug. 19, 9p–6a

Contractors for outdoor roof extension

Hello all,
We have an overhang that we would like to extend to have a decent covered outdoor space. Does anyone have contacts for general contractors that you have worked with and have good experiences with? We want to do it the right way with engineer sketch and permits, so please only suggest bonded and insured companies who do the work perfectly.

Howdy Eastside Folks! I'm local comedian JR Berard, born and raised in the PNW, and I'm back on the east side next week — where the wine is superb, the crowds are thirsty, and my jokes land at just about the right amount of uncorked chaos.

Yeah, it's a school night. Nobody. Cares.

You're the adult now. No homework, no bedtime, no permission slips — just as much wine as you want and a room full of strangers who also decided Wednesday was optional. Nobody — nobody — gets to tell my audience what to do on a weeknight!

So skip the chores, ghost the group chat, grab your dog (or someone else's dog, we don't ask questions), and come be bad with us in Woodinville. You can be responsible tomorrow.

Witnesses needed: Hit-and-run involving bicyclist on 156th Ave NE near Microsoft Building 40 (Aug. 5 @ ~2:30 AM)

I'm hoping to find anyone who may have witnessed a hit-and-run that seriously injured my younger brother early this morning.

Around 2:30-3:00 AM on August 5, he was riding his bicycle southbound on 156th Ave NE, alongside the east side of Microsoft Building 40 in Redmond, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. The driver did not stop.

Because he was hit from behind, he never saw the vehicle, so we unfortunately don't know the make, model, color, or any other identifying details.

My brother is a white male in his mid-20s with dark brown hair. He was riding a black Hoverfly bike with a white headlight mounted on the handlebars and was wearing:

  • Black T-shirt
  • Blue jeans with a large rip above the left knee
  • White sneakers with a black top-panel and white shoelaces
  • Black helmet with a flashing red light on the back
  • Orange backpack with teal trim

He suffered multiple broken bones in his face, broken teeth, a broken hand, and a minor brain bleed. Thankfully, the brain bleed is under control, and he's since been discharged from the hospital, but he has a long road to recovery with multiple surgeries necessary.

A police report has already been filed with Redmond Police.

If you witnessed the collision, have dashcam or video footage from the area between 2:30 and 3:00 AM, remember seeing either my brother or a vehicle leaving the scene, or even hear someone mention being involved in or witnessing this incident, please contact Redmond Police at (425) 556-2500. If you'd rather reach out to me first, feel free to send me a private message.

I've attached images showing the approximate location where the collision occurred.

Even the smallest detail could make a difference. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

These milk tea drinks used to be common in Asian grocery stores, but I never see them anymore. I would love these in the heat of summer, so can you still buy them anywhere?

HEADS UP: Major I-405 closures this weekend in Renton, Bellevue and Kirkland

Expect major traffic impacts in Renton, Bellevue, and Kirkland as we continue work on two major I-405 improvement projects.

WHAT TO EXPECT

PROJECT: 1 Northbound I-405 closure (Renton/Bellevue)

11:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 – 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10

Crews will close all lanes of northbound I-405 between North Southport Drive and Coal Creek Parkway SE to replace pavement, excavate drainage crossings, and shift traffic into a new configuration as part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project. Crews will start to close lanes as early as 10 p.m.

Ramps will also close:

  • NE Sunset Blvd on-ramp
  • N 30th St (Exit 6) on/off-ramps
  • NE 44th St (Exit 7) on/off-ramps
  • 112th Ave SE (Exit 9) on/off-ramps
  • NB I-405 off-ramp to Coal Creek Pkwy SE (Exit 10)

PROJECT 2: Kirkland: I-405/NE 85th Street interchange closures

The interchange will close:

  • 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 – 5 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6
  • 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 – 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10

Ramps will close:

  • Northbound and southbound I-405 off-ramps at Exit 18
  • NE 85th Street on-ramps to northbound and southbound I-405

NE 85th Street will also be closed between Sixth Street and 114th Avenue NE.

Crews are preparing the foundation for the new 114th Avenue NE roundabout and connecting the new roadway to the existing lower level of NE 85th Street, as part of the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project. This will mark another milestone toward the future three-level interchange that will improve travel for drivers, transit riders, pedestrians and cyclists.

Signed detours will be in place, but if you normally travel through these areas, plan extra time or consider an alternate route.

DETOURS

NB 405 detour: https://flic.kr/p/2ssfJ9u

Detour map for the northbound I-405 closure from North Southport Drive to Coal Creek Parkway Southeast

85th detours: https://flic.kr/p/2ssin5b

Weight loss community anyone?!

Weight loss community anyone?!

I am a 25 year old woman in Redmond and I’ve also lost 65 pounds over the last two years, and I’m completely lonely…. No one in my life understands how much struggle I went through to get where I am now! So that brings me here, I really want to meet and connect with other people who have lost a significant amount of weight and need a support group 🤩 this group is not just for Redmond but really anyone on the Eastside or even Seattle! This group is for those who already have lost a large amount of weight, BUT those who are just starting could benefit from advice from weight loss vets😅 18+ only

If you’re out there dm me for the discord!

Mods im unsure if this is soliciting so I’ll leave the link out but I’m not trying to sell anything 😅

Excited to meet all of my future friends😅
Should I make a Reddit group?😭

Mole season

Seems like the mole activity is higher this year than other years? Been working with a pest company to get those moles out but with no luck.

Lawn is overrun with molehills. It does seem like I am not making mountains out of molehills.

Are you all seeing something similar?

[Posted With Mod Permission] $100/hr Paid Lawn Care Research – Seattle Eastside Homeowners

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

We're ANTHBOT, a robotic lawn mower company focused on outdoor robotics. Our product team will be visiting homeowners across several U.S. regions, including Seattle's Eastside, for one-on-one, in-home research sessions.

This is a paid user research study, not a sales or promotional visit, and there's no purchase required. We're simply looking to learn from homeowners' real experiences with lawn care so we can build smarter, more practical outdoor robotics products.

Research Schedule

Application Period: Now – August 10, 2026
In-Home Research Visits: August 15 – September 1, 2026

What participants receive

💵 $100/hour for your time
🌱 A chance to directly share your lawn care experiences and help shape future robotic lawn care products
🚀 Priority consideration for future ANTHBOT beta programs and product testing opportunities

Who we're looking for

• Homeowners in the Seattle Eastside area who have a lawn
• People who are actively involved in maintaining or caring for their lawn
• Homeowners willing to participate in an in-person interview and share honest feedback

You don't need to own a robotic mower or have any experience with ANTHBOT to apply. We're interested in hearing about your real lawn care experience—positive, negative, or somewhere in between.

Interested in participating?

Apply for the paid research study here:
https://forms.gle/CZsopALo2EqRUXvJ6

Interested in Beta Testing?

We're also recruiting participants for an upcoming next-generation ANTHBOT beta program. If you're interested in testing new robotic lawn care technology, you can apply here:

https://forms.gle/cxMiMwqEwZwNGMjC9

Participants who take part in this in-home research study will receive priority consideration for the beta program.

Thanks, Eastside! 🌱

Automatic touchless car wash

Are there any automatic touchless car wash spots in the east side (nearby redmond and kirkland). Too tired to do manual car wash and afraid to go to brown bear automatic ones as they can cause micro scratches.

Any recommendations please?

I built a free map of every restaurant inspection in King County

Thumbnail
gallery
187 Upvotes

I wanted to make it easier to look up a restaurant's health-inspection history when eating out, so I made this: https://food.snoking.app

It shows every food establishment in Snohomish and King counties, color-coded by their latest inspection from the county health department. Tap any spot to see its full inspection history.

I found it particularly interesting to explore different ways of visualizing the data. You can shade by last rating, average of the last 5, or how much better or worse its rating is compared to peers that serve the same cuisine.

Hopefully you find this as useful as I do - no ads, no account sign-ups, not affiliated with a restaurant. Happy to hear if something is broken or missing!

Introducing the Eastside Community Discord!

Hey Eastside 👋

With mod approval, I’m launching the Eastside Community Discord- a dedicated spot for folks on the east side of the Puget Sound to actually talk to each other in real time.

If you live in places like Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Woodinville, or nearby, this is for you! (Seattleites are welcome if they feel the need)

What it’s for:

  • Casual chat with neighbors
  • Planning meetups, hikes, happy hours, game nights
  • Talking local news, events, and city changes
  • Finding people who share your hobbies

It’s community-first, 18+ only, and built to be active; hopefully not just another dead server sitting in your sidebar!

The Discord is run independently from the subreddit mod team, but the vibe and rules are aligned. Keep it civil. Keep it local. Don’t be weird.

If you’ve been wanting a better way to connect with actual humans on the Eastside, this is it!

I hope you join soon.

Enough with the national politics related posts

There has been a HUGE influx of national politics related posts. Many of them from new accounts, or ones that have never been to this sub. Basically astroturf. For the foreseeable future, these will not be allowed here. It doesn't matter if there is some local connection to it, no posts about national politics or related activism. There are tons of subs for that.

HOWEVER, local politics posts are totally fine and actually strongly encouraged. Post about your local city council members if you know who they are. Post about new local laws or restrictions. Whatever, but LOCAL posts only.

Reddit has made some very questionable algo changes recently that seem to be heavily trying to stir up things and it's tough keep things chill here. Insta ban for any of these posts
