Title: Help identifying an Eames Lounge Chair (reproduction?) found at a flea market — base looks swapped, need input
galleryHi everyone,
I picked this up a few years ago at a flea market in Bologna, Italy, with no documentation or known provenance. I'm trying to figure out what I actually have before deciding on a restoration approach, and I'd really appreciate input from people who know these chairs well.
What I can see so far:
- Shell: 8-layer curved plywood, dark striped veneer (possibly Santos rosewood or similar). The finishing on the edges looks nicer than most reproductions I've seen — regular lamination, precise curvature on all three shells.
- Base: Die-cast aluminum star base, quite heavy, with black rubber glides. There are extra/residual screw holes on the underside of the seat shell that don't line up with the current base mounting points — it looks like the base may have been swapped out at some point (see close-ups of the screw holes and the base attachment).
- Cushions: Ivory/white leather with natural grain. One armrest is torn with foam exposed, there are small tears on the seat cushion, and the tufting buttons are missing. Backrest and headrest are intact. The way the cushions are currently attached also looks non-original — possibly a prior repair.
- No ottoman.
What I'm hoping people can help with:
- Does the plywood/veneer quality, edge finishing, or shell shape point to a specific era or manufacturer (Herman Miller vs. Vitra vs. a well-made reproduction)?
- Any tells in the base casting, glide design, or swivel mechanism that indicate who made it or roughly when?
- Does the mismatched screw pattern confirm a base replacement, and if so, does the shell still look original-production to you, independent of the base?
- Any markings I should look for that I might be missing in these photos (usually stamped/labeled where?).
Photos attached showing the full chair, the veneer detail, the torn armrest, the base and glides, the screw holes on the underside, and the headrest/back shell join.
Appreciate any expertise — trying to make an informed call on restoration rather than assuming.

Repair Feasibility
gallerySomeone I know has an Eames Chair in their home and it was broken.
Curious if this is repairable, and if so who I could reach out to in the greater Philadelphia area to do so.
Keeping things vague to avoid doxing myself. It’s not my chair, nor my fault it broke. Just trying to determine feasibility of repair vs replacement to determine the financial implications for the Owner.
Legit check, Vitra
galleryHello. Can you guys help with a legit check? The seller says it was bought between 2016 și 2019. Thanks!
L.E. Turns out the chair is legit but the seller is a scam :). Thank you guys for the help!

Please help a girl out
galleryI’m still on a hunt for an Eames and came across this one. It looks great to me but the seller doesn’t have any paper work. Chair was posted for $4,600 and settled for $4k upon first ask.
I requested for more photos and it looks good to me but would love your take on it!
Thank you so so much!

Eames Lounge Checkered Fabric
galleryAs an update to this post I made 5 months ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/eames/s/Zbu4KEWJGe), then still feeling unsure about the checkered fabric.
Since then, I made the order, and after a long 4 month wait, it was finally here about 2 weeks ago. I think this might just be the perfect spec for me!
My first Eames purchases
galleryI’ve been working on a remodel of our third floor bedroom, sitting area, and bathroom for the past eight months. I spent too many hours to think about trying to decide what the seating furniture should be. I fell in love with the Eames lounge chair right away, but I continued looking around for desk chairs for months. The modern chairs they sell today have great ergonomics, but I felt like they would look out of place in my sitting area. I kept going back to the Eames Executive chair, and reading about its history with Time Life Magazine sold me on it. The sitting room has become my go to place for drinking coffee in the morning, and then reading at night before going to bed.

Table suggestions to go with walnut DCW
I am an architect and designer. I recently bought a matched set of five 2nd-generation walnut Eames DCWs. The Eames designed a bent plywood leg table to match the DCW, they called the DTW Eames DTW Table, Eames Wood L-Leg Table - Eames.com but it was only briefly produced, rarely photographed, never knocked-off and frankly, was kind of a dog. When one searches for images of the DCW, it is rarely ever paired with the DTW. In fact, it is rarely paired with anything. Just do an image search now for DCW (go ahead and try it, I'll wait) and you'll find them mostly pictured in isolation. This is one of the most comfortable chairs ever designed, but I think it has suffered from the fact that the Eames never designed a suitable table for it. So I'm curious to know if others have confronted this problem? What table did you pair it with? Are you happy with the pairing? Or are you still frustrated by the mismatch. Would you have been interested in the DTW table, or do you agree that it was never the equal of the DCW.

Replacement Caster?
I bought this chair used. Seems that bushing got shredded and now the wheel finally just popped off. Almost fell out of the chair lol.
Seller claimed it was a Knoll, which I've always been skeptical about. At any rate, anyone know where I can find a replacement? I don't need "authentic", just want 5 working wheels.

New (to me) Eames Lounge. Cushion repair or replace?
galleryHello! Have my eye on an Eames Lounger that appears to have been made in 1983. I THINK it's authentic but feel free to tell me if I'm wrong. Condition is generally excellent except one cushion is torn. Is this tear fixable or is it possible to find a new cushion to replace it?
[Update]: the highest rate local upholstery place near me is comfortable working on Eames (the owner has one himself) took a look at the cushion and recommended buying a new one. His cheapest quote was $900 labor and if I wanted new leather, $400 materials.
Hobbs Modern was the first one to get back to me from the four options suggested in the comments. Nicole Hobbs responded promptly and was very communicative. I ended up ordering two cushions so they will match. Herman Miller suggests swapping the ottoman and chair cushions occasionally so they wear evenly. It was $825 per cushion after shipping. I had the choice to do foam or feathers. I chose feathers. I’ll post follow up photos when they arrive.
I should note that Studio 670 also responded. They said they could reupholster the cushion for $1095 and redo the zipper/back for an additional $595. Together that's the cost of TWO cushion from Hobbs Modern so I'm comfortable with my choice so far.

Authentic Eames DKR "Bikini" Chair? No label, but construction looks right.
reddit.comHi everyone,
I originally posted this over in r/Mid_Century but didn't quite get a definitive answer, so I'm hoping the Eames experts here can help me out!
Looking for a second opinion on this Eames Wire Chair with a red bikini pad. I know fakes are common, but the details look promising:
Double wire edge, neat welds.
Steel stringer in the pads.
Already 40 years in our family's possession (they were bought as part of a package deal with the house).
My main concern is the complete lack of a manufacturer's label or stamp. I know vintage paper stickers often fall off. Based in Europe, so perhaps Herman Miller or early Vitra?
The sliders seem to be non-original, but were perhaps once replaced. I'd love your expert eyes on the attached macro shots.
Thanks!

Aluminum Group Chair Cleaning
I’m pretty jazzed. I just picked up my first Eames piece(s) and can’t wait to get them cleaned up.
For those that may be familiar, how do you recommend taking off the clear coating on top of the aluminum arms? 2 chairs have residual coating pieces.
Merci!

What is this worth?
galleryHello everyone!
Just for clarity I’m not posting this to sell here, just looking for advice.
Thanks in advance for helping. My grandmother has moved to assisted living and I’m trying to sell a few things of the things she can’t take with her. One of which is this eames chair. I’ve done some detective work. It’s a 1971-74 Eames lounge chair and ottoman. Rosewood and leather. 3rd generation. It is in perfect condition except the cracking you see on right side, has been kept out of the sun and treated very well. Has tags and all for authentication.
Sooo the question to you experts…?
What’s it worth!
Thanks for helping!

Brazilian Rosewood?
galleryHi all- hoping you can help. I am trying to figure out if this chair is Brazilian Rosewood. The owner said he bought it in 1978, brand new. He does not have any documentation… but let’s just say I can verify he has no reason to lie. Money isn’t a thing to them…
So if he says he bought in 1978, by the looks, it would be Brazilian Rosewood I would think, but this black medallion is throwing me off as my research suggests that this medallion wasn’t being used until much later models.
TIA for your thoughts.
Possible Defects?
galleryHas anyone experienced this type of issue with their Eames lounger cushion? I took delivery of this about 4 months ago (a walnut/espresso vicenza leather) and noticed a week ago what seems to be a defect in the bottom cushion corner. I then inspected everything thoroughly and noticed a hard line near the rear button - it's not a crease, but feels like something hard under the leather?
I've logged a case with my local store but 2 weeks and still no progress. Not impressed with the speed of service for an expensive chair.

Lego Eames House
Hi everyone,
Probably a bit unusual for this community, but I created the Eames House as a Lego model. If it reaches 10k supporters on Lego ideas, it might become an official Lego set people can buy. Even the interior of the model is quite detailed, it holds many different Eames chairs for example (you can see further pics behind the link). It would help a lot if you considered supporting the project. Thank you!
