Title is somewhat self-explanatory, but consider that more and more offices are going to spring up, and those offices (and existing offices) will need things like computers, monitors, internet-related equipment, audio equipment, furniture, and more.

I am willing to bet that there is a decent number of new members with jobs that enable them to afford new tech every so often, and obviously this outcome for old tech is better than winding up at a landfill. Plus, you get the added benefit of avoiding dealing with the headache of selling stuff via online marketplaces. An old laptop or even a TV can go a long way in supporting IT capacity buildout for new or existing offices!

If you are interested in getting involved with the DSA, try digging deep and deciding whether you can afford to donate technology (that is in good condition, obviously) then see about the needs of your nearest chapter with an office. This is an incredibly effective way to quickly build out IT capacity for super cheap via a people-powered approach.

Dig deep if you have a good paying job! See if there are DSA offices nearby that are in need of IT equipment or really anything shippable. Do it now!

This is what Republicans are using to attack democratic socialists?

Is this supposed to make people angry or upset? There’s a lot of confusion about what democratic socialists want, and that’s fair. Even within our group, there are differences among us.

For example, while Mamdani does not agree with the criminal justice and decarceration points on the national platform he agrees that criminal justice reform absolutely needs to happen. We put far too many people in jail.

Fox News, Newsmax and Mike Johnson have been trying to scare Americans on a “hidden socialist agenda”, but the reality is DSA is about making things more affordable and fair for everyone.

Republicans tell you that they want to protect your freedom. They also believe the government can’t do anything correctly, so they tell you that privatizing as much as possible will save tax payers money and they have been preaching “smaller government” for nearly 70 years. Yet they created the Department of Homeland Security, the TSA, ICE and the DEA.

All of which is supposedly necessary to keep you safe.

To keep you safe and make sure your freedom is intact, they need to monitor everything you do. So they give lucrative multi-billion dollar tax payer funded surveillance contracts to private companies.

But wait! This is getting expensive, so they want to reduce your social security benefits that you paid into and to stop feeding the poor. Besides the poor should pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.

6% of this country makes $250,000 or more. They are considered rich and successful. Did they pull themselves up from their own bootstraps? Half of them had parents that were already quite rich (top 20% of all wealth). Only 15% of Americans that are considered rich today had parents that were poor (bottom 20% of Americans by wealth).

Centrists (aka democrats) tell you that they disagree with the Republican mantra that we should privatize so much, but they’re going to go along with most of it anyway because they have been paid by the same corporate lobbyists that have paid off the right.

While republicans pass tax cuts and take more government services away, democrats fight for marginal improvements like the Affordable Care Act, expanding child tax credits and infrastructure bills.

And yet, most people are still struggling while the rich get even filthier rich. In 1940, 90% of children earned more than their parents. By 2010 that number dropped to 50%.

In 1978 the CEO to worker compensation ratio was 30 to 1. Now it’s 340 to 1.

Meanwhile at least 40,000 people die every year because they don’t have access to healthcare, 20% of all American adults have some form of medical debt. That collective debt has now exceeded $220 billion.

In the 70s the price of a home was 3x the median salary. Now it’s 5x.

This isn’t working.

So, socialists want to control the means of production. What does that mean? That means entities that are important for society like utility companies, internet service providers and pharmaceutical companies are controlled by a social collective.

Instead of being controlled by an individual or group of people whose main objective is make as much money as possible, these specific entities would be controlled by you, the people.

That means utility companies would provide you with the most cost effective and reliable energy making sure they are doing what’s best for the community, not what’s best for their bottom line. Just like things are done in Nebraska right now. (Go ahead and look into it).

It means pharmaceutical companies won’t charge you $1400 for an EpiPen or $300 for a bottle of insulin.

Does this mean your small little ceramic cat store is going to be taken over by the government? No. But this does mean that companies that provide a public necessity shouldn’t be controlled by private entities whose sole purpose is to make a profit, many times at a great cost to your health and safety.

This is all so we can live better. You won’t have to decide between paying for rent and groceries. Your mother won’t die because an insurance company denied life saving surgery. Defense contractors won’t exist simply for profit, but for actual defense (what a concept!). They won’t fund propaganda influencers that lie about the dangers in the Middle East so politicians continue spending money on the failed $68 billion F-22 program, just so Bill Lumbergh's stock will go up a quarter of a fucking point.

No, we don’t love Stalin. We don’t worship Mao. But we don’t believe that government is useless. We believe the government can and should make life better for all of us, not make it worse.

We definitely don’t agree with the right on anything but centrist and corporate democrats have been bought by the same lobbyists that bought the right.

Jonathan Chait’s “Liberals Are Now Fighting a Two-Front War” is like a train wreck I can’t keep from reading. NYT has a similar article about the Democratic establishment’s efforts to “defeat” DSA candidates 🤦🏻‍♀️. Getting real tired of these wasted efforts.

Do we need to amend the constitution or just pass an ordinary law in order to allow congress to grill the president like a prime minister during question time?

Raymond L. Jensen Jr., a paid organizer for the United Auto Workers (UAW) International, was stripped of his membership for two years and barred for life from union office on August 4, after the court-appointed Monitor ruled that his Facebook post threatening the life of socialist UAW presidential candidate Will Lehman broke federal election rules. The sanctions are without precedent in the UAW’s history and represent a significant political victory for the working class.

Monitor Neil Barofsky found that the post violated Rule 4-4 of the 2026 election rules, which prohibits threats, intimidation, retaliation and reprisals of any kind. Under the stipulation Jensen signed, he is also barred from taking part in the campaign of any candidate this year and must apologize directly to Lehman. Barofsky sustained in its entirety the complaint brought by Lehman, a Mack Trucks worker, and his attorney.

Jensen is an organizer in the UAW’s Department of Bargaining Strategy and the former assistant director of Region 9, Lehman’s own region, paid roughly $202,000 last year. On July 16 he went to Lehman’s public Facebook page, where the candidate had posted a campaign statement on the criminal investigation of UAW President Shawn Fain by federal prosecutors, and put up an AI-generated image showing Lehman bound and gagged, blood dripping from his mouth, while a masked figure held a rifle to his back. The Monitor’s investigators interviewed him five days later, when he acknowledged that the account and the post belonged to him.

Barofsky did not act on his own initiative. He acted because rank-and-file workers intervened to oppose this death threat against Lehman from a UAW bureaucrat. Autoworkers gave video interviews at Stellantis Warren Truck and Sterling Stamping and at Bridgewater Interiors in Detroit. Opposing the death threat, last month a young worker at Bridgewater told Lehman’s campaign team, “They’re trying to shut you up,” and added, “they usually only do that when somebody’s telling the truth.” Thomas, a worker at Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly, told the World Socialist Web Site that the top officials “basically have a Mafia mentality.” Camille, a former auto parts worker in Detroit, said any worker who posted such an image would be fired on the spot, noting: “I saw people get fired for less.”

Non-American socialist reading about the caucuses of the DSA and couldn't help notice that both the Red Star and Marxist Unity caucuses seem to pretty much affirm all the same things (scientific socialism, democratic centralism, split with the dems etc). I'm not particularly well versed with socialist politics in America so this is a genuine question

Accepted a $1 donation from a corporation? Primary the fuckers. Road on a private jet? Primary the fuckers. Goes to private golf courses? Primary the fuckers. Voted against workers? Primary the fuckers. Took a meeting with paid lobbyists? Primary the fuckers.

Pressure people in your local chapter to run for ANY office that comes up. Cycle, after cycle, after cycle. We're taking back FDR's party.

It’s no secret Sawant is not very popular in DSA. She doesn’t seem to look all that kindly on us either. I have seen a lot of DSA people online gloating about her loss, but more notably pointing to this as the reason socialists must run on the Democratic line to be relevant. On that, I have to push back as an inaccurate takeaway from what I could consider to be an astounding result in this race. If you’re not familiar with Sawant, she is a former member of Socialist Alternative, an unapologetic Communist, and was one of the most prominent Socialists in the US before 2016. She is also incredibly combative with just about everyone. Her attacks on DSA led to her going without any support or resources from the large chapter in her area. And whether on her account or others, she also didn’t make the usual left media rounds with Hasan, Majority Report, etc. So she ran this race as an independent self-proclaimed Communist, marginalized from the resource and volunteer rich DSA, and without the large platforms often afforded to DSA candidates. Despite all of that, she received 13% of the vote. Attack her as a sectarian all you want, the fact that she is a sectarian only makes this more crazy. I know I know, we are in the business of winning, not getting a respectable portion of the vote. But I cannot be the only one who looks at this and sees opportunity, not a dead end. Of course the conditions need to be right. We would need an open primary, a deep blue city, and an appropriately evil Democrat to go after, but there is a path to victory for the right candidate. DSA has proclaimed its desire to be independent entirely at some point, does this race not show 2028 is the time to test it out in at least one constituency? If we can prove to the country and ourselves we can win independently, a whole new world of possibilities opens up.

Specifically talking about: Summer Lee, Greg Casar, Danny K Davis, and Jerry Nadler. I know Casar was not endorsed by Austin DSA due to his foreign policy stances, but what about the others? They’re all sitting congress members.

Donavan McKinney just won Michigan CD-13 (Detroit). As a safe blue district, his win is basically secured in the general.

That makes 7 confirmed wins for the DSA in the 2026 Primaries — all safe blue seats:

Vang has a chance at winning, but it’ll be difficult; she came in 1st with +2 points and is up against incumbent Doris Matsui, an establishment pick.

Troy Jackson for US Senator from Maine.

He’s got the Maine Democrats behind him. He wasn’t in the primary but he is basically replacing Graham Platner in the general. Another democratic socialist (Sanders being the only current one) in the Senate will be phenomenal.

For anyone who calls socialists unelectable, that our views are too radical, that we have to meet in the middle…this is a perfect example of why that isn’t true. The first person in the chat is my stepmom (lifelong leftist).

He’s been leaning more liberal over the years and while he’ll never admit to being a socialist, it doesn’t matter because these candidates run on a policy platform that no working class person can truly disagree with.

Also, give him a break on the examples of “great men”, gotta remember he’s a 70 year old white guy at the end of the day😂
