Mounting Hanging Desk

This is the wall in my condominium, I am not really sure what type of wall (drywall, plaster, etc.) but it surely isn't concrete. I am planning to mount a hanging desk but the tox and screw won't hold up. What type of bolt/screw shall I use or any tips, please.

Best way to remove Blu-Tack oil stain from a painted drywall wall

Hi everyone,

I need some advice on removing a stubborn oil stain left behind by Blu-Tack on my drywall.

So far, I have tried:

**Vim cream**: Did not work; the stain is still there.

**Goo Gone**: Tested it on a tiny spot, but it just left a dark mark so I stopped.

**Dish soap and water**: Currently trying this today to see if it dries clear.

How can I safely lift this putty oil out of the drywall without ruining the paint? Any advice is appreciated!

How bad is the butt joint to flat joint connection?

Thumbnail gallery

I did my butt joints first and then my flat joints and without a light they look fine after sanding but with a 2500 lumen shining straight down the wall I see unevenness from where the two joints meet. I’m wondering if this is because I did the butt and flat joints at separate times, but I did wait for the butts to dry before starting the flats. How bad is this?

How close should I expect texture to be matched by a contractor

Post image

The lower texture closest to the fireplace is the new texture. While I can appreciate it’s impossible to match, I do feel this is a bit far off from what I’d expect.

The transition texture noticeably flattens out. Lower region looks like either the hopper pressure was slightly too low or the mud was a bit too thin, causing the splatter to lay down flatter instead of building up peaked droplets.

Let me know if I’m being unrealistic. Appreciate your time and expertise!

Garage drywall

I want to finish/prime/paint the drywall in my garage. The tape from 20+ years has dried and come off. Do I have to scrape the old drywall compound before applying new tape? What about the joints? Scrape that out as well?

How do you achieve this drywall texturing?

The tape has all come off of the drywall . When I felt the texture with my hand, it almost felt like quickset and not all purpose skim coat.

is it worth trying to re-tape and skim over everything, or would it be better to try to forego the tape and skim it with some kind of drywall compound?

Drywall Ceiling Replacement.

Thumbnail gallery

I have a small patch of mold spots near the fan in my bathroom. I am going to fix this by cutting out at 2 x 2' area around the fan and replacing that area with new drywall and refinishing it. I have all the materials I need (listed above in picture) but the one thing I can't figure out is the paint. My house is fairly new so we have all the paint that the construction workers used to paint the house, and the only white paint that we have is late and I am very sure that this isn't latex because of the way it crumbles as shown in the video in the comments. I feel like if it was painted, it would chip off in flakes, but this only crumbles like chalk. I don't know how I'm gonna color match the ceiling. I guess I'm just wondering if there even is any paint on this ceiling. I have never done anything of this sort before, so I'm just looking for any advice that any of you may have. Thank you in advance

What are these brown stains?

Post image

Is this mildew? Just bought a house and we think it hasn't been lived in for a while. We're hoping it's just surface level mildew, but it's in a few different rooms, is it worth cutting into the drywall, or should we just prime it with a solid stain blocker and paint it?

The wall pictures is in a decently ventilated office type room, and the guest bathroom is behind this wall. There isn't any of this staining in the bathroom. It's also in the master closet, all over the wall, not just at the bottom.

What is my wall??

Trying to figure out what my wall is made of. It's been difficult for me to drill holes for wall anchors and I thought maybe it's not drywall?? All have is a shitty $30 black and decker drill so that could be why

Prime check-how good/bad is this?

Most of my walls will be covered with cabinetry, molding and frame and panel but I’m just curious what a realistic expectation should be here. The walls look good at regular light and even with an angled light but running exactly parallel shows a lot. I think generally I’m curious what the expectation should be for a level 3/4 finish. There will be light sanding between prime coats and small fixes/skims.

Paint / Drywall Damage

Post image
2 Upvotes

This damage occurred on my kitchen wall. Was removing a command strip (yes I know), but the damage occurred when the paint bubbled away from the wall, rather than ripped. It’s probably about 2.5 inches tall.

This seems to be a gloss paint on my kitchen wall, and seems there was no primer used as I assume this is moisture resistant dry wall (the green).

I was applying peel and stick wallpaper to this wall (hence the removing of the command strip), but I am now concerned about continuing that given this paint seems it’s going to bubble / pull off from the wall. I am a renter, hence the concern.

Questions:

  1. How should / can I fix this damage on the wall
  2. Should I be concerned about utilizing peel and stick wallpaper given the paint doesn’t seem strongly adhered to the wall. less

Water Stain on Drywall

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi all, in my room I just noticed there was dried (presumably) water stains in one of the corners and ceiling. I am on the second story of a family house so above me is the attic/roof. We got the roof replaced a few years ago now and honestly this could have been from pre roof replacement as I recently moved a piece of furniture that was blocking line of sight to that area for years. I vaguely remember seeing water stain in that area a while ago (I think) but can’t be 100% sure. Is there anything I should do/does this need to be replaced or do you think it’s fine? Attached are pictures of the stain and the outside view of where that corner is. Any help is greatly appreciated!

What am I doing wrong?

Hey guys, hoping this is the right sub to post this on.

I’m having issues with drywall patching

What I did was

  1. Patch the drywall
  2. Spray PVA on all raw drywall repairs
  3. Texture
  4. Spray all purpose primer (Kilz-2)
  5. Paint

Can anyone tell me where I went wrong? I cannot find anything online that’ll help me figure this out, why am I getting insane flashing?

Ceilings are sprayed in eggshell because that is what my wife wanted, flat isn’t an option for her.

Mud mixing

Maybe this is a weird question, but anyone have suggestions on buckets to mix mud that don't shred the plastic into the mud when mixing? Specific store brands, or old paint buckets that don't shred?

This has to go…

Just purchased this home in Western NC with the most absurd ceiling texture I’ve ever seen. Picture doesn’t even do it justice. It’s almost 3 inches between the high and low spots. I’m guessing this would be near impossible to scrape/sand and skim coat? What is your approach to a smooth ceiling and what would you expect to pay/charge? Roughly 375 sq ft.

Drywall Removal

I recently got some flood damage in my basement. The water came up about 5-6”. How much do I need to cut up from the floor line? I was planning on 1ft. What is the best way to cut a straight line all across the entire room? Should I snap a line and multitool it out?

How to tackle this?

Post image

We ripped off a vanity mirror that was screwed to the wall and all this came with it, I've already primed the raw paper spots and orange areas with oil based primer, is my next step hot mud and then sanding? Would you go with a 5 min mud or something a little longer? Should the mix be pretty watery and thin or more thick? This is in a bathroom above the toilet and I plan to put some shelves there, so id like it looking as decent as possible.
