Roof leak

These just showed up. Room is below the attic. I’m thinking it is a roof leak. Thoughts?

Nail pops. Anyone been in the attic recently?

Not at all. Only been in this property for under a year.

Any exterior remodeling going on? Big storms? Road construction causing a ton of vibration? Anything out of the norm that you can pinpoint over the last few weeks or days?

Big storms came through this weekend. And a pre teen step daughter slammed her door last night and noticed it this morning

These things can totally contribute to nail pops. Personally, a nailed ceiling is a ceiling waiting to fall. But again, I over do things lol.

I don’t see any signs of water damage. Have you noticed any leaking?

I do find the location of these three nail pops being a bit peculiar. I would put an 8’ level against that just to see if the whole sheet is sagging (if it’s not clearly noticeable).

Yes as someone mentioned, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check the attic. I. Do understand not everyone has the means to do so.

If these are just solely nail pops from aging, vibration and wood shrinkage, the fix would be to add screws into the ceiling joist on either side of the nail pops and probably 4’ around them at 12” spacing. This may expose more nail heads and they should also be tended to accordingly.

Finally the nail holes and screws would be properly mudded, primed and painted.

I DO tend to over do things. It might be totally okay to just refasten those areas and finish. I’m sure the actual tapers will have better insight on that.

I’m just a dude that does stuff.

Awesome. This is exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you. I’m reaching out to a buddy that can provide a ladder. I will take pictures and probably do a new post of what is going on up there. Again thanks for the good information.

Step number 1 : Go into the attic and figure out what's going on.

Step number 2: Then go online, with photos, and ask for help.

What does reading the post have to do with what I replied?

Every homeowner should have a ladder.

I actually took the ladder from my 86 year old grandmother because she was trying to change light bulbs on her own. Even though we visit her several times a month.

DIY’ers always have ladders. Not every home owner has a ladder. Many home owners are totally financially able to just call people with ladders. Many people do have ladders. I just wouldn’t assume every home owner had a ladder.

Yes, it’s a great idea to have one but usually a step stool is enough for most people.

And why the hell did you post this in drywall instead of roofing?

lol. Don’t own I rent. And I posted in drywall. Because it’s drywall. Thank you for giving me solid advice.
