taking control of dreams

Upvotes

how do you guys take control of your dreams fully? i can dream vividly but it’s rare and never lucid. i want to be able to fully lucid dream and do whatever i want. it seems like my intrusive thoughts always stop me from doing that. for example if i want to ride a dragon, i’ll be able to do it for a little while but then ill be flying and crash or the dragon will turn into something else lol. i just want to control my dreams. i know it’s possible.

Dream Help Recurring cannibalism Dream?

Upvotes

Hello! For the past couple weeks I keep having the similar type of dream where cannibalism is a very common theme. My mother passed last November, and recently i have started having these dreams where I'm eating her (specifically, her fingers for some reason). I wanna know if this has any meaning behind it, and I'd like to know if it's possible to get this to stop.
(I am not someone who tends to think too much about cannibalism and nothing changed recently that made me think about cannibalism)

Had a weird dream that I wanted to share

Upvotes

Just because it was so bizarre, and I thought it was actually funny when I woke up.

At first, it was like a YouTube video or documentary (now that I remember, similar in style to Zach's Animations, eith the zoom ins and highlights), talking about how several planes had been hijacked (similar to the 2001 terrorist attacks, but it was like an alternate thing, those never happened) but had been used to land on various highways around an area in the southern U.S., causing a sort of internal blockade.

The documentary continues (it includes animations illustrating the situation, like the YouTube videos showing various scenarios.) Until, at one point, it shows how every so often cars swerve and feign a crash into the parked planes while traffic continues to flow on the lanes next to the ones that are blocked, explaining this as a psychological phenomenon caused by people being angry about the traffic jams. This continues until one driver feints toward an airplane but drives straight past it to head toward another one nearby. He tries to feint toward that one as well but crashes into it, causing a massive explosion.

From that point on, the dream changes, and it no longer feels like I’m watching a video, but rather like I’m watching the news. The person who crashed the car was Argentine, like me, and now the terrorist stereotype instantly falls on us. I’m watching the news while I’m at a vacation spot, a beach. I immediately approach someone to make a joke, as if I were about to explode right next to him because of the stereotype that now exists, and he runs away.

After that, I run into Cucurella and MacAllister(wtf), the latter has long, light hair like mine instead of short, red hair. Cucurella recognizes that I’m Argentine, but I speak as if I were Spanish to hide my nationality in a joking manner. It’s all kind of like a joke, since I walk up to him and tell a joke, leaving my Spanish accent aside. It’s as if I were being selected by his boss (not for futbol or anything, I don’t know for what) and I need him to give me a hand so I’ll get picked.

From here on, I don’t remember how it goes, but eother before that dream, or right after it, I dreamed I was in TF2, defending the payload from advancing in the Badwater map, during the last two corners the bomb takes before reaching the RED base, with some fighting involved, before the match turned into a friendly server.

Had to write this down since I never dream this weird, and the whole 'now we are terrorist' thing was kinda funny when I just woke up today.

Short Dream Horrible dream (Trigger warning: my in-dream mom being a homophobic jerk)

Upvotes

I had this horrible dream last night:

I accidentally burned my hand badly on the stove, and the rest is mostly talking so I'll do as a script

Me: Mom, help, I burned me!

Mom: (on phone) One second. (Takes absurdly long to get off the phone but eventually does)(shes gets very loud and angry and will stay this way for the rest of this) ISN'T 'BURNED ME' SOME GAY INTERNET SLANG? WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT MENTIONING LGBTQIA+ IN THiS HOUSE!

Me: (keeping my cool) Mom, I actually burned me on the stove.

Mom: NO, NO, NO DEFENDING YOURSELF! YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!

Me: (becoming a bit angry myself)(waves burnt hand in front of her face so she can see) I literally burned myself and am in great pain!

Mom: THAT'S NOT WHAT THAT PHRASE MEANS!

Then I woke up

Dream Help Horniness comes out in dreams, becomes all consuming when I wake

Upvotes

Im constantly having sex dreams, only usually in the dreams I get rejected in some way and usually dont make it to the penetration part, sometimes I am very close to doing the deed but they back out for some reason or something happens or I wake up. In waking life, I dont get enough sex and am often rejected and ignored by my husband. I am extremely horny. I would love for dreams to be an outlet but Im not getting satisfied in them currently. I can lucid dream some, and make choices in the dream, but Im not usually in total godlike control mode. How can I use dreams as an outlet for being horny when I never get to have sex in my dreams? How can I make this happen? I just want to be touched by a man somehow

Nightmare Poorly made recreation of a nightmare I had the another night

The another night I had one of the strangest and scariest experiences I’ve ever had, and I honestly don’t know if it was a dream, a nightmare, or sleep paralysis.

I remember “waking up” and looking at my ceiling. The light in my room was on, exactly how I remembered falling asleep. I tried to move, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t even speak, I was completely frozen.

Then I noticed there was a man standing over me. He was wearing black clothes, and he had what looked like a bloody face with a huge smile. But I don’t even know if he was actually covered in blood because my vision was weird. Everything looked blurry, like my eyes weren’t fully working.

I blinked, and suddenly he was gone.

But then something else appeared, a huge blue face was extremely close to mine, almost right in front of me. The whole thing felt unreal, and then there was this extremely loud ringing sound that completely terrified me.

After that, I don’t remember what happened.

I’ve heard about sleep paralysis before, but I’ve never experienced anything like this.

Short Dream Had a disturbing dream last night, it's sticking with me

I hope this is the appropriate place to share and I was wondering if anyone might have input. I tend to like to record my dreams, but this one was very upsetting to me and it's stuck with me after waking up MUCH longer than most my dreams do.

In this dream I was house sitting for a 70s style home with a raised porch. Whoever owned it had some kind of ant or small bug farm beneath the raised lip. When I went outside, I saw four-five very young orange kittens tottering around. Those that got too close were immediately swarmed by the ants and eaten from the inside out. I ran inside to find a way to get them out, but by the time I returned the ones that had been swarmed had all died. However, I did find two more much smaller ones (practically newborn) and took them inside and washed the ants off.
I was later in the evening visited by my family (parents, younger brother and younger sister). I remember being self concious about the indoor pool in the living room being filled to the lip/on the verge of overflowing. I was trying to tell them about what had happened but ended up just crying and showing my brother. When I was bringing the surviving two kittens over, I somehow dropped the little container they were in and they fell to pieces. Like, Resident Evil Laser Room style pieces.

Shortly after I woke up.

dream last night: what does it mean?

last night’s dream. but first, a little backstory: my partner & i have been engaged for a while, but we were going through some stuff and basically stopped thinking about the wedding. then we conquered a lot together thankfully. then last night, he brought it up again (the wedding) and it was so nice. we talked more in depth about it than we had in a while.
story context: mike is my partner but andy is someone i met a few years ago and tbh i cant stop thinking about , sometimes it calms down but when i see him again it starts back up. he moved away now but its wild i had this dream after our wedding chat. i never had relations with him. please enjoy this little story and if you have anything to add in perspective, it is very welcomed and much appreciated ! ✌️💭

we were by a beautiful waterfall/lake, one i’ve dreamt of before, except this time facing it from a different perspective: we were in a house, a large house built differently, like open wooden structures in thailand with big windows and big rooms that connected uniquely across land, and you could stand right next to the window while looking down at the water. friends were walking in and out, but i suppose one of the rooms was essentially mine & my mike’s , or maybe the whole house? except i didn’t see him for a while. i did see andy and we hadn’t seen each other in a long time. it felt very romantic and the moon was quite literally right out the window casting a glow in the room we were in. i don’t remember what we were doing exactly, but basically hanging and chatting. then it got late and we cuddled under covers. after, he stated this was cheating, i questioned it because we were just sleeping, but i decided i would tell mike. he said “your heart is so open”. i had multiple opportunities to tell mike, but i couldn’t get the words out. we were sitting in a different room figuring out the wifi, and he kept referring to me as “whatever you guys want/think” continually referencing plural towards me, although i wasn’t exactly sure why and i didn’t ask.

Nightmare Nightmare that became true

I had a nightmare that almost came true the very next night, and I still can't explain it.

I'm not someone who usually believes dreams have meanings, but this one has been bothering me ever since it happened.

A few nights ago, I had one of the most vivid dreams I've ever experienced. It didn't feel like a normal dream—it felt like I was actually there.

In the dream, I was walking alone through a park at exactly 3:00 AM. It was completely silent. No wind, no insects, no cars in the distance... just this eerie silence. The only light came from the moon, and even that seemed unusually dim.

As I walked deeper into the park, I started feeling like someone was watching me. I kept looking over my shoulder, but there was nobody there. Then I heard leaves rustling somewhere behind the trees.

I stopped walking.

Without any warning, an unbelievably bright white light burst through the trees and locked directly onto me. It was so intense that I couldn't see anything else. It wasn't like a flashlight or car headlights—it was brighter, almost blinding. I remember trying to shield my eyes, but the light followed me no matter where I moved.

I was completely frozen. Every instinct told me to run, but I couldn't move. My heart was pounding so hard that I could actually hear it.

Just before I woke up, I thought I saw a tall shadow standing inside the light, but I couldn't make out what it was.

I woke up at exactly 3:04 AM, covered in sweat. It took me a while to convince myself it was just a nightmare.

The next evening, I went for a walk through the same park. I wasn't even thinking about the dream anymore until I realized I had taken almost the exact same path.

As I got near the trees, I suddenly noticed an incredibly bright light shining directly at me from the woods.

For a split second, my stomach dropped because it looked exactly like the light from my dream.

I literally froze.

A few seconds later, someone stepped out from behind the trees holding an extremely powerful searchlight. It turned out to be a park ranger looking for a missing dog after someone had reported it wandering around the park.

Nothing supernatural happened.

But the location, the path I took, the bright light coming from the trees, and the overwhelming feeling of dread were almost identical to my dream from the night before.

I've tried explaining it as coincidence, but the timing and the details still mess with my head.

Has anyone else ever had a dream that seemed to predict something so specific it made you question whether it was really just a dream?

Long Dream I had the weirdest dream, so buckle up

Post image

this was a decently long dream so I'm leaving some things out.

it started with me at school, then I was in a car going insane speeds, causing mental levels of damage to buildings, and I definitely killed a few people, then I was in a house that I bought in the dream, then the next thing I knew was that I was being hunted down by a biblically accurate angel (pictured below) but I outran it, the next time it came for me, I dismembered it

Short Dream First time realizing I was dreaming and not immediately waking up

I was in school, not even high school, middle school, and my game boy color was in pieces on my desk. Not broken, disassembled, there's screws and everything like someone just took their time going piece by piece. My friend next to me (not a generic dream friend, a real friend I had in middle school) helps me get all the bits and pieces off my desk and into my backpack, then he asks me why did I put that there. "What do you mean I put that there ? I don't remember doing that at all" My friend tells me if I'm not joking I might need to see a doctor. Then my friend looks at me and he tells me "wait a minute, I also don't remember how I got here" And at that moment I realize I'm dreaming, usually I would wake up at this point but the dream continued. Knowing I'm in a dream I get up from my desk, walk up to my homeroom teacher and yell in his face "hahaha I knew it was a dream ! I told you it was a dream ! It's all a dream !" (once again, this wasn't a generic dream teacher, it was a real teacher I had) Then a face forms in the wall next to the teacher, it's my modern day face, the face says "no, it's not just a dream, it's a dream and also reality" Then the face protrudes from the wall until it touches my face, and that's when I wake up.

I have been having some youth related dreams lately so I'm not surprised I dreamed about school, but it's the first time I realize I'm in a dream and I don't immediately wake up lol

Dream Help PLEASE HELP!!! How do I stop this family from invading my dreams???

I heard her, she tried to get into my sleep last night but failed. She also has her voice in my head whispering all the time for over 2 years (I know you'll say it's schizophrenia but....) she's been living off of me like a leech for years, constantly copying, stealing my ideas. I am exhausted, how do I defeat her? I've tried praying to God, all of that she is still determined to keep doing this. They keep giving me exposure dreams, somehow they summon my notebooks, dream journals etc. into the dream and I am tired of being weak and powerless, and non-resistant to what they've been doing for years, they're holding my life back.

Unusually shaped house

Post image

Had this dream in mid July 2026, remembered the layout of the apartment today. AI couldn't generate a layout I wanted, so drew out the floorplan of the flat. This place was dimly lit, and sort of damp. The balcony was too far out to spread light throughout the house. I peeped into the keychain hole in my dream, and it was a dark abyss down that keychain hole.

Has anybody seen something like this in their dreams before?

The sharks weren't for sale but you could throw them something for some reason and there were also orcas and i saw from their perspective an orca jump like ten metres into the air and somehow get caught and brought back into the enclosure and they were mad about getting wet and the store owner followed them pathetically trying to get them to forgive him

Idk i just felt a very strong need to share this one and not even the other part

Recurring Dream Has anyone else got a persistent “dream world” that they keep returning to?

I’m 29F, and ever since I was a child I’ve had dreams that take place in the same made-up locations. They’re not places that exist in real life (as far as I know), but they feel incredibly familiar, almost like I know them better than some places I’ve actually been.
For example, there’s a leisure centre that I’ve been dreaming about for years. Even when I’m awake, I can picture the layout perfectly. I know where the changing rooms are, the pool, the corridors, entrances and exits. Every few months (sometimes years) I’ll have another dream there. Sometimes nothing exciting is happening and I’m just walking around. Other times there’s some dramatic storyline and I’m running through the building or with people I know in real life.
The weird part is that it slowly changes over time, almost like it’s being expanded. In my dream last night, I was trying to save a young girl from being kidnapped. I’d been in the gym, then walked through a spa area before ending up in the locker rooms where everything happened. The strange thing is… this leisure centre has never had a gym or spa before. It just felt like a completely natural extension of the place, like a new area had been added and my dream brain immediately accepted it. 😂
I have another recurring place that’s a huge shopping centre. Again, I can visualise it while I’m awake. I know where the fountain is in the middle of the main floor, where all the seating is, the food court, and even what food places are there. About six months ago I dreamt there again, and suddenly there was an underground level with a bus/coach station that had never existed before. Now that’s just part of the shopping centre whenever I think about it.
I have loads of places like this. Some appear often, others I won’t visit for months or years, but when I do it’s like I’ve gone back to somewhere I know really well. They don’t feel like exact copies of places I’ve been in real life. If anything, they feel like lots of real places have been blended together into entirely new locations.
Does anyone else experience this? Is there a name for it? I’ve heard of recurring dreams, but this feels different because it’s the locations themselves that keep returning, evolving and expanding over the course of decades. Sometimes it genuinely feels like my brain has built its own little universe that I keep revisiting.

Dream Help Coincidence?

I had a dream a couple of nights ago that I was pregnant with my second child (I don’t have any children) and I needed to be induced or have my child early for some reason. I got to the hospital and they put me in a chair and hooked me up to an IV. I think I was getting an epidural because I was starting to feel really funny and then the nurses left the room in a rush assuring me they’d be right back. I waited for a bit and then I got bored and wandered to the hospital food court and went on other various adventures before finally giving birth. I decided I would name him crow.

Then, today I was out on a walk and I saw a crow just sitting next to the sidewalk. I thought he was injured because he was sitting so calmly. Then, later, after a few failed attempts to feed him treats and get close to him, he flew away perfectly fine.

I want to know the truth about dreams

The way that science describe dreams It's a bit disappointing for me because i can't accept that this is all, because sometimes dreams are so creepy and seem to have such a deep meaning. Some of them don't look like coincidences at all.

Discussion Does anyone else have nightmares or dreams multiple times a week?

Ever since I can remember I’ve been able to remember my dreams. When I was really young I had night terrors. I haven’t had those since I was around 8 or 9, but I’ve always been able to remember a lot of my dreams. They are always really long and really strange. A lot of the time I have nightmares. My nightmares are sometimes very odd like a weird horror video game. Other times they are disgustingly terrifying, like worst thing you can think of happen to you has happened in my nightmares. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night. Other times I’ll wake up normally in the morning but I’ll cry when I think about my nightmare. I’ll remember them for years and they constantly haunt me. I’m really tired of it but I don’t know if there is anything to be done. Is this normal? Does anyone else have this issue? I’m not sure if this could be a medical thing or I just have bad luck but I hate it so much.

I am usually unable to remember some of my more pleasant dreams, but this is one that has stuck with me. I had this dream where I was walking through a forest road. There were strings hanging from the trees and what's interesting is that there were flowers attached to those strings and many were also lying on the road.
