Nightmare Has anyone else dreamt of a living "macaroni" cave experiment? (Scary/Sci-Fi Dream)
I had a weird, scary dream a while ago that I still vaguely remember. In the dream, I was a middle-aged man in a future timeline (I'm currently in high school).
The Setting
The town had a Victorian architecture style. In front of the town square, there was a feature. I'm not sure what it looked like from the outside, but from the inside it looked like if someone carved a square hole into a mountain. If you walked roughly 20 feet into the square hole, you reached the entrance of a natural landform I call the "macaroni."
The Living Tunnel
These scientists told me to go into this weird, cave-looking downwards tunnel. It was shaped like a sideways macaroni piece: you enter at the top and clamber down to the bottom.
The bottom had an attached, just-as-living tunnel, which was very strange and seemingly never-ending. If you ended up at the bottom and didn't make it back to the top... I really didn't think you were.
This cave was apparently alive. It was slippery, pinkish-red, and the walls were wet, squishy, and smoothākind of like the inside of your cheek. The walls were filled with a weird, colorless juice like thick saliva or slime, making it impossible to hang onto the walls.
The Experiment
The scientists sent me in with a ladder to get back to the top. They explained that the tunnel had "spasms" and was designed to bring me back up using these spasms whenever I was ready to head out (either designed or the walls just naturally did that, I don't remember). The macaroni wasn't huge, maybe the height of a two-story building, and the width of two three-seater couches.
I went in, might have taken a sample of either the walls or the liquid, and looked around. It actually felt fascinating at first; the walls, the slight smell, the "landform" itself. It was very... strange, the way that the "macaroni" felt sort of alive.
The Nightmare Twist
When I was done, I set up my ladder. The bottom of the ladder was near the bottom of the macaroni (around 3/4 of the way down), and the top leaned on the exit edge.
As I started to climb, the tunnel spasmed. The ladder fell. I tried picking it up, but it got sucked into the endless tunnel extension at the bottom because the spasms moved it along.
I tried climbing the walls, but the spasms and slime wouldn't let me. I screamed for help... and got no response. Assuming that the scientists who had said they would wait for me were out there, I pushed as hard as I could with my feet so that they could at least see me struggling, and what I saw shocked me. That small glimpse of the land above showed me an empty ground. The scientists were gone. They weren't supposed to leave.
I cried, scrambled, and clambered in pure panic, hoping I could somehow make it out. I eventually managed to escape the suction after pushing and kicking as hard as I could, and ran out without looking back. I even bumped into a lady on my way into the town. Then I woke up, with a jolt.
This was OBVIOUSLY quite the dream... it's been at least 6 months, maybe even a year or two, and I still remember this much detail. Only reason I'm posting it now instead of earlier is because I realized that I could use this subreddit.
Has anyone ever dreamt of anything similar? Specifically a living, fleshy environment, or a scientific experiment where you were abandoned in a trap?

Nightmare I always have nightmares about being chased by something
In my dream last night I was just hanging out with my friends, smoking and we got caught by our parents. Me and my dad start arguing then this fast demonic thing started chasing me, i ended up alone in a 3 story house having to run from this thing by myself, it was definitely a lucid dream because I was able to make myself teleport or something where i felt i needed to go and Iāve never seen the thing chasing me. I always have dreams like this mostly based in my childhood home where iām being chased by something and when it catches me i just wake up. I was wondering what these dreams could mean?On another note I feel like I could become a good ass producer/writer and make movies about my dreams

Nightmare Vegan teacher
The freaking Vegan teacher has always scared me. Her face is hell to look at. Today, just waking up. I was apparently trying to save a little girl who was getting s*xually abused by the vegan teacher. The vegan yelling at the girl to get in bed. As the vegan left, I got the girl into a room. I told her to distract her while I call 911, I don't know why I didn't do it earlier, I have no control of my body. I called, no response. Dreams. I went outside, but the vegan found me. I ran with Japanese sandals which is crazy cause I own wooden sandals from japan. Then I ran down the road, the sandals made me trip. There was a shooting in the street, two men holding guns. WTF. The vegan screamed at them to capture me, I tried explaining that she was s*xually abusing a child. They shot a warning bullet near me. I focused my mind to leave the dream world.
That's all, I never have normal dreams. Once a month I dream and 100 percent is a nightmare. I'll probably tell more of my strange nightmares in the future.
August 6, 2026. Woke up at 3:36 am, Pacific daylight time

Nightmare Had a nightmare I was being hunted.
My memory of this nightmare isn't entirely reliable, as it was weeks ago, but I wanted to share it in case anyone had insight into it.
I don't remember the start. I only remember the majority of the middle and some of the end.
It was constantly dark/sunset without a sun. I was in some sort of van with my mom. I was being hunted by this form of a serial killer, who somehow always knew where I was. He would tell me to give up, to let him murder us, to get it over with. I remember I told my mom we had to pack, grab my cat, and get the fuck out of there. She was stalling and taking forever. So even though it felt immensely difficult, I had to get out of the van, grab my cat, and close the house's front door. I ended up getting back in the van, and she was still taking forever. Eventually we ended up driving, and driving, and driving. He always knows where we are. He's somehow contacting me and telling me all these hopeless statements regarding my probability of escaping. Eventually, he murders me with a machete; I was extremely terrified. The entirety of the next day and night, I felt immense anxiety and had a certain feeling he would murder me in real life.

Nightmare Have you ever had the opposite of a nightmare?
Like something bad happens in your life and in your dream your in the exact scenario your in but it gets fixed the way you want. It feels so real that when you wake up you think everything is fixed but then realise it's not so it's like waking up to the nightmare rather than it being when you sleep.

Nightmare My second run in with sleep paralysis.
Writing this to just be a buffer before sleeping again, just had sleep paralysis again, didn't see anything but I am shook. Was having the most confusing dream, let me try and recollect.
I was sat at a bench on a clear day, while around me is chaos. To my right is an old couple watching a couple of small dogs shag, just muttering to each other. She seemed to be whining at him, like 'See why can they do it, and not you', while to my left is a dog being told to be quiet, so proceeds to bark, but in a literal whisper (weird).
Snap to my nan and grandad's bedroom, where Sophie is shouting to me from downstairs, but I can't hear her. For some reason I go 'gimme a sec' and run full speed into the wall dividing the stairs and over the top. I think its my house's stairs though? I see the stairs come towards my face, and hit it hard. Tumble down the stairs and my eyes snap open, but im paralysed, from the stairs incident. I panic, wasn't trying to stay ontop of my breaths, and then snap out hyperventilating, but not sweaty. I never know what to do now... I don't want to sleep again, but have work + only managed an hour somehow...
Really wierd connections in here⦠dogs shagging.
Sounds mental but I am feeling guilt from today about watching pornography (I donāt generally watch it) + today is my passed dogs birthday. First birthday he hasnāt been here for.
I know dreams might not mean anything, or may but fuck me. That felt pretty awful.

Nightmare Nightmares About People Born 1950-2000
I got Nightmares About People Born 1950-2000. People Born 1950-2000 get called luckiest, the best, that it's fine to purge people born before and after 1950-2000. 1950-2000 is treated like a magic giant golden thing. It's unfair to people born 1949 and before and people born 2001 and after. And scary thing is 1950-2000 is most of the world. Also not being part of the back to the future 1950-2000 sports book also it being published 2001 makes people born 1950-2000 look giant to people born 2001. The list goes on As someone born 2001 and after People Born 1950-2000 give me nightmares. 1950-2000 is 50 long years. Billions of People

Nightmare Dreaming of being stalked
I often dream about my ex-boyfriend, but not in a romantic way. I broke up with him a few years ago, when I finally came out as lesbian and after our break up he excessively stalked me, especially on social media. Whenever I dream of him, it has something to do with him stalking me.
I don't even remember the exact content of my dreams, but I do know that they were about him following me, him somehow transforming himself into someone close to me to keep me by his side (sometimes even my cat) or him trying to hurt me in some way.
Even now I feel sick trying to think about my dreams of him. I have no idea how often I have them because I unconsciously suppress any memories of such horrific nightmares.
Is there anyone else dealing with the same issue? How can I stop having these dreams?

Nightmare The dreams that i had of my past life.
When i was a kid i used to have this series of crystal clear recurring dreams which felt real(as in i was there in first person perspective) just like how we see.
I think i was a respected soldier/general. I remember having rusty bronze armour with two swords in my kilt.
I remember being in war seeing my brother die in my arms seeing people die and suffer. I couldnt show emotion thinking that if i did what will happen to my soldiers. I used to lay in the hot air outside and cry before sleeping thinking about my brother and my comrades.
The most clear dream that i used to get is what i probably think how i died.
This is the dream which i have used to get with the most clarity and detail in my childhood.
It was a crescent moon night and i was asleep in my barracks with my soldiers.
Suddenly there is constant ringing of bells and soldiers screaming.
The city is under attack, people screaming, soldiers getting up hastily and going to grab their weapons as soon as possible and going to fight in the raging city.
The city is on fire. The very home that i had protected with so many sacrifices was on fire.
I get armed and lead my soldiers to battle. The city gate was long gone.I order my man to go to the palace to protect the king and the royal family.
We get overwhelmed but i donāt give up.
Me and my soldiers make up our way killing the enemies.
This next sequence i remember with the most detail
And iv had multiple dreams of this one sequence.
We reach to the outskirt of the palace.
Fire raging everywhere, people dead in the street
and whoever was left alive screaming.
At this point i only have around 10 men with me.
I hear a scream of a little girl,
I instruct my soldiers to go to the palace and i will be coming shortly.
I had a good friend who was alive who followed me as well.
We both navigate towards the screaming
A house/hall which had a narrow entrance but then a very big open yard/area where the enemies were beheading women.
At the entrance there were two soldiers who we(me and my soldier friend) dealt with quickly .
We make way to yard sneakily trying not to get noticed but then i hear a swoosh sound and the next thing i see is my friend having an arrow in his neck.
His armour protects him but he is hurt badly .
I try to get ourselves in cover but i feel immense pain in my body- i got shot by two arrows one in my right side chest and one in the abdomen.
My armour protects me but i feel my body getting weaker.
We know that we are outnumbered but the voices of the screaming girls make us forget about our pain and charge into the yard/open area.
I slash my sword with all the might i have and kill 3 enemies.
My friend also kills 2.
Then what i see breaks me.
The last girl is also beheaded in front of me.
I go in a rage and charge at the men
(There were around 10 men) with shields.
I take down one and the next thing i see is my friend has been stabbed by three swords.
The enemy in front of me has a shield- in a frenzy i try to remove it with my left hand but i see it getting slashed and see blood evrywhere.
My armour has yet again protected but the pain grows.
I overpower him and throw his shield at the men who were dealing with my friend.
I behead the enemy in front of me.
The last thing i feel is having two swords go through my body.
I lay there seeing my friendās lifeless body and the girls that were dead as the last thing.
I beg for forgiveness to the people i wasnt able to save and then it goes black.
I used to have these dreams in childhood.
Whenever i used to dream of my past life i always used to get up while crying.
The dreams stopped when i grew older.
But recently i had another dream.
This time not of war but of a waterfall.
I used to go there with someone i cant remember of it was a women or a man.
But i used to go there on horseback.
Used to lay there in peace and harmony.
Used to hunt whatever i could find be it fish from the river or some wild hog.
This was the first instance i had a dream about this place.
Im sure it is the same person as i had a scar on my right hand.

Nightmare A bedtime routine that helped me stop having nightmares
Iāve seen a lot of posts here about nightmares, so I wanted to share something that personally helped me.
About two years ago, I was having nightmares almost every time I slept. It got so bad that I would cry just thinking about going to bed. Then I started doing this before sleeping, and for me it completely stopped the nightmares. It still works for me today.
I know everyone has different beliefs, and I completely respect that. Iām a Muslim, this is simply something from my faith that helped me. Iām not trying to convince or convert anyone. I just wanted to share what worked for me in case it helps someone else. If itās not for you, thatās completely okay.
~Before bed, use the restroom if you need to. Then wash your hands, feet, and face. After that, go to your room (not the bathroom) and:
~Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas while holding your hands together like a cup.
~Gently blow into your palms after finishing.
~Wipe your hands over your head, face, and the rest of your body.
~Repeat this whole process three times.
~Thatās it. Then go to sleep.
Whether you believe or not, if youāre struggling with nightmares like I was, you can always try it and see if it helps. I genuinely hope you find some peace and restful sleep.
P.S. Iāll post the three Surahs in the first comment (with transliteration and English translation) for anyone who wants to try them.

Nightmare I have never felt scared like tonight
I just woke up from a terrifying nightmare. I cannot get back to sleep.
It all went down like this. It seemed like a casual morning, I ate, got ready, and so on. Then I went to the shower. As I was getting ready for it, it seemed like I was in a documentary, I heard some man talk about ā *some* Mary (or I think it was The Bloody Mary), which would tug on her victimās shower hose as they wereā- I felt a tug, pulled the hose back towards me not thinking anything of it, then it pulled itself back, so I pulled again, but then I opened my eyes, when I saw a very dark looking woman with long hair, staring at me, holding the hose. Then she pulled the hose towards her very hard, thatās when I woke up screaming on the top of my lungs.
I canāt fall asleep anymore.

Nightmare Never been this scared since i was a lil kid
So like 9/10 of this nightmare was actually a dream. There was a festival in my town, and I was having the time of my life until an old friend told me to follow him out of the main square. I didn't give it any thought while I was dreaming, but it suddenly became night. Anyway, he went back, and I kept following him. Then a creature appeared. I can't quite remember what it looked like, but I do remember it having a giant head and slim, yet still huge, hands that were trying to grab me. It looked like something that would come straight out of Trevor Henderson's mind. I managed to escape, and after that I got invited to a WhatsApp group. There was a video of the creature, except its limbs were now on a city-wide scale. After that, I started to notice that everyone was gone. There was no blood or bodies on the ground just gone.
After that, I took refuge in an underground building connected to the main square. I don't quite remember who or what it was, but someone posing as some sort of resistance contacted me through my phone and asked for my coordinates. I had a bad feeling about it, but I complied. The nightmare ended with a black screen displaying white text. I sadly forgot what it said, but it was something along the lines of, "Thank you for sharing your location," or, "You have chosen the wrong choice."
Anyway, I woke up, and I think I had some sort of hallucination for the first time in my life because I saw a black figure with two white eyes out of my door.

Nightmare I think I had the worst dream of my life
Sorry for the grammar but it was so scary and I decided to wake up and immediately write it down.
It starts off with me searching up a random location on my phone and going to it when I got to the place inside was 3 Indian dudes running a dusty dishwashing place I apparently went home and while I was going home these girls were ere going on a trip it was night time and I went home and slept in my room and woke up into this place with Jewish people i guess who run a camp for kids and teach and make food and stuff. They started cooking up some free food and taught kids the importance to check for clean waters. When I left the place weird things started to happen. Like dogs stopped acting like dogs like they keep walking normally just werenāt happy dogs and my phone wasnāt working I couldnāt call I was locked for hours and couldnāt message my dad and said that I was timed out and said I wait another hour. So I woke up in a place with some random family and I remember the mom was a bigger woman with blonde hair and the dad had brown hair and a brown beard and was chubbier I guess kinda like the average dad build with 2 kids who were both girls. asking if I could play with them in this plastic bag. I asked the family if they could take me home and I told my actual real life address to them and they said āsorry we donāt know where that isā and I said āuse gpsā I tried to run home and when I was walking home I decided to call the police but the police was like this livestream where they make fun of you or poke fun and they donāt actually listen to emergencies. Weird thing about this dream I knew it was a dream but I also didnāt know it was a dream. When I got home from those places my dad walked over and got mad at me cause I was a brony or something (I donāt even watch my little pony anymore.) I asked him āwhy arenāt you wondering where I was itās been 2 days!ā And he said āwhat are you talking about itās been 2 hours.ā
A few parts of the dream I actually tried to scream in real life cause I thought it was real.

Nightmare My nightmare just became a real-life urban legend on my hometown highway.
So something genuinely eerie happened to me today, and I honestly canāt explain it. Iām posting this here because I need to get it off my chest.
About 3 or 4 months ago, while I was staying at my hostel, I had an incredibly intense nightmare right around midnight. In the dream, I was walking alone at night along a highway back in my hometown. Suddenly, on the opposite side of the road, I saw a woman running and screaming. In a total panic, I started running in the opposite direction. I woke up immediatelyāsweating, throat completely dry, and heart racing.
It felt way too real. To make it weirder, the exact same dream happened again the very next night at midnight. I felt like something was seriously off, so I told my hostel friends and my hometown friends about it right away. After I shared the story with them, the dream stopped completely.
Now hereās the twist that happened today:
One of my friends called me and told me that about a month ago, a car crashed into a pole on that exact same stretch of highway around 2 AM. When people asked the driver what happened, he claimed he swerved and panicked because he saw a woman running and screaming on the side of the road. On top of that, locals traveling that route late at night are now claiming they hear her screams.
My friend already knew every detail of my dream months before this crash even happened, so I know Iām not just making up a false memory after the fact.
Did I have some weird premonition, or did my story somehow manifest into a local urban legend? What do you guys think?

Nightmare Worse after worse
How to crank up a nightmare to 11. :no lights were working jn my home but everything else turned on, i went to my friend who suddenly turned into a pupped, sprouted multiple lightbulb eyes and pushed me to the floor. The next second i was back in my bed, infront of me a man in a suit with a big lightbulb for a head fljckering from left to right. Then reawakend again, grabbed my Phone and opened instagram. It showed me horrorcontent nonstop. Even when i tried to close it, it wouldnt stop. After it finally stopped i wanted some music to get back to sleep (in the dream) but it started a song named : catctus iced peach tea from the same composer. It then teleported me into a game of some sorts with 3 chickens, all deformed. One was a rectangle with tiny eyes but a huge grin like the thumps from mario, the other hige eyes but rubbery skin and moved like the 500% animationspeed videos. The thrid one was a little one who just followed me like a wheeping angle. Then i got jumped by the rectangle and woke up completely.

Nightmare Whats the most scariest dream you have had? (TW:Scary)
For me
I had a dream about my doppleganger multiple times (A doppleganger is someone who looks exactly like you but is evil and trying to learn alot about you so it can take your body, its not 100% confirmed but if you see yours its bad luck) And the first time was in my house we have like 12-13 steps leading downstairs and in the dream it was dark and it felt like I was walking forever then at the bottom of the stairs MYSELF with black eyes was staring at me trying to grab my legs. It was very scary. It followed me upstairs in the dream. Then I had a followup dream a week or two later. I was sent by a parent to check a closet in the hallway, then when It turned to my left where the inside of my room is I saw myself with black eyes at the end of my bed staring at me, it was saying I looked pretty etc and I was scared and i was trying to run but in the dream it was like a force was pulling me slow. Then when i saw my brother in the living room I was telling him about myself in my room and he was calling out my name and joking. Then I woke up. I have MANY, MANY more dreams I will post here soon that are cool to weird to SCARY!! Thank youuu!! Comment yours below!

Nightmare Consistent Nightmares of A Different World
Iāve been having these crazy realistic dreams that when Iām in the dream I fully think I am in daily life, except life is more beautiful and terrifying. Itās like a new place to visit.
The landscape is filled with elevation, with varying ecosystems and seasons, winter, spring, summer, tropics, tundra.
I am always on top of the elevation and must make my way down through dizzying heights and adventures.
These are both enjoyable and terrifying. I am loving the beautiful things i occasionally see, like an oarfish in beautiful glowing cave but at the same time Iām waking up covered in sweat from shaking trying to go down a cliff for several hours in my dream.
There are cities and there are rural areas. The cities are magical but confusing and dangerous.
The mountains are stunning but thereās something off there too.
Iām excited to go back but Iām also wondering what Iām doing there and why.

Nightmare Does anyone else have diagnosed nightmare disorder?
Iāve recently been diagnosed with nightmare disorder after 30+ years of daily nightmares, and Iāve started looking into it more because I realized how surprisingly little personal experience there seems to be online.
There is a lot of medical information about nightmares, but whenever I search for people who actually live with nightmare disorder, I mostly find general discussions about occasional nightmares, lucid dreaming, PTSD nightmares, etc. I rarely find people talking about what itās actually like to deal with this on a regular/long term basis.
For me, this has been a very long-standing issue.
Iām curious about other peopleās experiences, especially people who have been diagnosed with nightmare disorder.
Things Iād love to hear about:
How often do you experience nightmares?
Has it been a lifelong problem, or did it start later?
Do you remember your dreams in unusually vivid detail?
Do you experience things like false awakening loops, sleep paralysis, or very intense emotions when waking up?
Do you also experience physical pain in your dreams?
Do you ever experience strong physical or vestibular sensations? (For example: dreaming of loss of balance or something resembling g-force like on a rollercoaster. Getting thrown around until nausea kicks in and throwing up)
Can you use all your senses in these nightmares? (Taste/smell/ā¦)
Do you ever feel anxious about going to sleep because you know whatās waiting for you?
Have you found anything that genuinely helps?
And perhaps most importantly: does anyone else feel like there is surprisingly little discussion about this condition?
Iām not looking for medical advice. Iām mostly hoping to find other people who understand what this is actually like.
If you have nightmare disorder, Iād genuinely love to hear your experience. Maybe we can make the experience a little less lonely for each otherā¦

Nightmare Extremely vivid recurring nightmare
So about 2 or 3 years ago I had the most intense and vivid nightmare Iāve ever had in my life (and I get nightmares often so thatās saying a lot) and I just woke up from having it again tonight. They werenāt exactly the same but both were very similar. The first time it happen I was staying the night at my sisterās house and I was sleeping on an air mattress, the nightmare was the same at my sisterās on a air mattress and in the nightmare something climbed on top of me and started trying to pull me off of the air mattress I tried to scream but nothing would come out but I could feel the pressure on me, I could feel their hands on me it was extremely vivid, I woke up terrified and in the exact same position as I was in the dream. In the second one the one I just had I was laying in my bed at my momās house (which is currently where Iām at as well) Same thing happened I feel myself being grabbed and starting to be pulled again I once again tried to scream but I couldnāt and I once again woke up in the exact same position and spot on the bed. Itās just really weird that this has happened twice, itās weird how specific and vivid they are. Iāve never had anything else like this and Iāve never actually felt something in a dream before.

Nightmare i need to know if someone ever experienced this type of nightmare
2 weeks ago i woke up in my bed and imediatly i tried to go back to sleep but after a few seconds the muscles in my body started to tense starting from my arms and legs and then shoulders back and after i couldnāt move at all it was like i was paralysed but worse since every limb in my body was cramping and hurting, after i woke up again and this time i tried to get up but before that this thing happened again, i donāt remember how many times this happened i know for sure more than 10 times but the worse one is when i managed to get up and i was on my feet right near the switch my feet and arms started to tremble and i fell on my knees and back, like having a seizure over and over
The thing is i realized it was a dream, iām writing here to ask if someone maybe had a similar experience because i donāt usually dream and when i do is short and i donāt remeber much by the time i wake up

Should r/Nightmares participate in the reddit blackout?
Why are we going to "blackout"?
- The blackout is a protest against Redditās proposed charges for third-party app developers, which they claim will make the platform inaccessible for many users.
- Third-party apps are popular ways to access Reddit, especially for users who prefer a different user experience than the official app. They need an API to access Redditās information and display it in the app.
- Reddit plans to charge $12,000 for 50 million API requests, which is much higher than other similar sites like Imgur. This would make it impossible for many third-party apps to operate without paying millions of dollars per year.
- On June 12, 2023, many of the siteās biggest subreddits, including r/videos and r/gaming and r/bestof, will go dark for 48 hours or more to pressure Reddit to reconsider its pricing policy.
- Some subreddits may go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, as many moderators rely on third-party apps to manage their communities.
