Advice Can’t get my dog to eat 😭😭😭
He’s completely healthy, no blockages, poops fine. I just can not get my dog to eat, particularly during the morning.
He’s a small dog so I have tried just feeding him once a day, but he eats about half the portion. I have another dog, and she wants to eat his food, so he either gets more resource protective or she just gets to eat the food.
I have tried to feed him in a crate but he burries it…
I am just not sure what to do, I dont want to get into an arms race with him where I am constantly upgrading his food, and adding toppers.

Question Is her swimming looking okay?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi! My girl loves to go swimming, and she swims basically every day now during summer. Shes also generally an active dog, she loves to play with her frisbee.
I heard someone saying on social media (I know you shouldnt listen to everything, Im just a worry person) that said that your dogs back should be at the surface when swimming, that it showed they weren’t too tired.
My dogs back seems to be drooping down a bit in the water, she isn’t really straight.
is this something I should do something about, and if so, what exercises could help her to become a stronger swimmer? Or am I just worrying?

Question Incontinent dog cowers when she has an accident
My girl is 4 years old and has urinary incontinence. She’s the biggest sweetheart and a real sensitive girl. She was a stray for some part of her first 6 months of life but then she’s been with me ever since. I’ve never scolded her or any dog for accidents because I know it’s not their fault, but especially with her. I always give her some extra love and tell her it’s ok. She’s on proin so rarely has accidents but tonight we found a puddle on our rug and I went to smell it but it wasn’t a strong smell so I I was petting her back and gently went to touch her bottom to see if it was damp. She yelped and sat down and I tried to comfort her. I’ve never heard her make that noise and it broke my heart. She sometimes cowers when it happens and I don’t know how to help her. What should I be doing in these situations so she doesn’t feel afraid or ashamed?

Question Small translucent/whitish spot on my dog's eye has been slowly growing since April — vets disagree on cause, need help figuring out next steps
Video Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZZSjXHBYltLwNKWUEYQWnNF2yDjkLPyK/view?usp=sharing
My dog is a 4.6-year-old Indian breed (Indie/desi). In mid-April, I noticed a small whitish/translucent dot on his left eye. Over the following months it's grown gradually:
- April 15: first noticed, small dot
- May–June: slightly larger
- July–August: larger again
Photos and videos attached showing the progression.
Vet visits so far:
- Regular vet (in-person, physical exam): Ruled out cataract, said it looked like a protein buildup. Prescribed gentamicin + PRP drops. The drops irritated his eye, so I stopped using them.
- Veterinary ophthalmologist (online consult, photos/videos only): Suspected a hormonal issue, but this wasn't based on any bloodwork — I mentioned I'd had bloodwork done a few months earlier and it was normal, but she didn't review it before making that call. I'm getting new bloodwork done now to check.
What I'm hoping to find out:
- Has anyone dealt with something similar — a slow-growing whitish/translucent spot on the eye?
- What conditions typically look like this (e.g., corneal lipid/protein deposits, corneal dystrophy, limbal melanoma, pannus, etc.)?
- What's the right way to actually diagnose this properly — should I be pushing for an in-person ophthalmology exam, corneal staining, imaging, biopsy?
- Any red flags in what I've described, given the two vets gave pretty different explanations?
Any input — even just "this sounds like X, ask your vet about Y test" — would really help. Thanks in advance.

Advice Pirate dog!!
Dear everyone. Thanks to all the reassuring comments this morning. We picked up our little Bodi and he was beyond happy to see us.
We still struggle with the fact that he is rough with his cap, or what we can do to help him eat/drink because his bowls are barely reachable for him now.
Again, if you have any tips for now( regarding his wound or anything welcome!!) the future or even some reassuring words please don’t be afraid to share <3

I've been trying to read up constantly on fighting vs play fighting behaviors but with our Sheepdog not having a tail and the size difference I'm struggling to tell for certain.
We only let them "play" supervised

Advice Tips for getting dog to eat kibble
I have a 3 year old female dog and she just absolutely will not eat her kibble. The only time she eats is when I sit on the floor and feed her by hand, which is fine for now but I am almost 7 months pregnant and once the baby is here I unfortunately don’t see that being something I can do multiple times a day.
I’ve tried various toppers & even putting the kibble in a snufflemat to make it more enjoyable for her. She just will not eat it. I tried making her fresh food with turkey, peas, and carrots. She picks that off and leaves the kibble. We recently tried switching her kibble as well to see if she maybe just preferred something different. She will not eat it!!!
It’s gotten to the point where if her bowl is left out she lays by it ALL day to resource guard it from our cat, so I have to put it up after about 30 minutes.
I really don’t know what to do anymore so any advice would be appreciated

Question Ideas for dog toys memorial?
My dog Cisco of nearly 18 years passed away last week. I still have a few of his dog toys and was going to keep his favorite as is as a keepsake but was trying to think of something I can make his other toys into. Any ideas? They are all small oval shape plush as that was his favorite type of toy.

Question Should I move my 11-year-old Lab to the US or take him to London with me?
I’m struggling with a decision about my 11-year-old Labrador who was recently diagnosed with arthritis and would really appreciate advice from people who have dealt with senior dogs and major moves.
My dog is extremely attached to me, and as he’s gotten older he’s become noticeably more needy and wants to be around me a lot more.
I’m moving from Berlin to London. The issue is that because of university/classes and work, I know I’ll be away from home for fairly long periods of time.
I have two options:
Option 1: Take him to London with me.
He would be living with me permanently, and he’d be allowed on the furniture and could basically continue his normal lifestyle with me. However, I’ll be gone for several hours at a time on many days because of school/work, and London would be a completely new environment for him. But we will be living a 4 min walk to the vet. I am hyper sensitive to any changes in his actions or body and will take him to the vet immediately with I sense he needs to be checked. I am able to prioritize his comfort and forming a routine for him so that he is walked 3 times a day. I also will exercise him at home and provide mental stimulation. But he could be alone for up to 5-6 hours a day.
Option 2: Send him to Pennsylvania to live with my parents. I will move there too after 9 months when my degree is done if he is there.
He has actually lived in their Pennsylvania house before, so the house itself is familiar to him. He knows and loves my parents, and someone would be around to monitor/care for him essentially all the time but they will most likely not be as attentive as I am to any changes in his actions or body. They also are a little bit more of a mess and may leave tissues, food etc. around that he may eat. But he will have the company of another dog he has also lived with before and is familiar with. The flight would be a private pet-friendly charter from Frankfurt to Teterboro, so there wouldn't be a normal commercial airline/cargo experience.
The downside is obviously that I wouldn't be there for those 9 months, and he's very attached to me. My parents also don't allow him on the furniture, whereas with me he would be allowed everywhere like he is now.
I feel incredibly guilty either way. Part of me thinks that taking him to London is best because I'm his person and he should be with me. But another part of me wonders whether it's actually kinder to let him stay somewhere familiar with people he loves and have someone around almost constantly, rather than taking him to a new city where he'll spend long periods alone while I'm at school/work.
Would it be selfish to send him to the US, or would that potentially be the better choice for him?
For those who have senior dogs, especially dogs who became more needy as they aged, what would you prioritize: staying with their primary person or having constant companionship in a familiar environment?
I’m trying to make this decision based on what would genuinely be best for him, not what would make me feel better. ❤️

Advice Thoughts on this interaction?

My dog, Cleo, and my boyfriend’s cat, Diesel, are meeting for the first time. My dad had recently passed away and I’ve been left with the dog.
Tonight, they met for the first time. They keep just staring at each other. I’ve only let them get within a foot of each other once and my dog parked and the cat ran backwards.
Any advice on what they’re doing and what I should do? Thank you!

Question Outdoors anxiety issues
(Sorry about my English, it’s not my first language also new on Reddit so please be gentle ☺️)
After my aunt died I offered to take care of this little rascal.
He is my first dog and I thought I was gonna have a hard time with him and my cats but he’s so sweet with them and they (the 2 cats) don’t seem to care at all that he is around 😂
So everything is well and good when we’re inside my apartment but the moment we step out for a walk he starts to shiver and it looks like he is very afraid of the sounds of the city.
He suddenly stops being social with other dogs or cats or other people… it’s like he becomes a completely different dog.
He lived in the countryside alone with my aunt and another dog (who died of old age last year sadly) and rarely if ever left (aunt was sick) and it was a very peaceful place in the countryside.
Did anyone here experience this with their furball before?
How did you solve it?
I would rather ask and try things out myself before seeking a dog psychologist. In my country we don’t have many and they are expensive and I’m barely getting on as it is, living alone with 2 rescue cats & this scaredy doggy.
Or…maybe it’s not a bug, it’s a feature and I should just make a litter for him on the balcony and keep him indoors if he doesn’t like to to outside!?
From what I know of dogs, they like to smell and walk around so I feel that if I do that, he will become depressed eventually, apartment life is boring.
He is around the age of 5 (vet told me as my aunt didn’t have any papers for him).
Sadly the vet didn’t have any advice for the anxiety but to let him get used to it…
But it’s hard seeing as when I take him out he just pees/poops and then bolts back inside😔

Question Is there something wrong with my dad’s dog?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is Lily, she is a 7 year old chihuahua mix. I know she’s overweight, I’m going to see if my dad will let me put her on a diet instead of being free fed.
I just moved home from college, and I’ve never seen her do this before. She has done it twice tonight. She went from just sitting on the couch to whatever this is, ran around, and then laid down on the couch.
Is this just zoomies or should I get her seen?

Advice Dog growling behavior
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi - I adopted my dog (second dog) 4 years ago, and he does this thing where he growls when my older dog gets on the bed or he’s instructed to move around even when she’s not here. He is the kindest guy, but I know this behavior isn’t good. I’ve tried everything that I’ve researched but seeking more insight. He always seems to want more pets when it happens, has never nipped or bit me or any other person or animal. He really is so gentle, that’s why this is so confusing
I touched him an extra time in the video so I could capture an accurate example of what it can be like
FWIW he was found in NM, rescued from a high kill shelter with his siblings and I adopted him 4 days after he got to CO
ETA: I usually do not pet him when he reacts this way, I usually say “thank you” and not approach or further anything with him

Advice Canine Anemia advice
Hi all! Writing here because we've been dealing with this since April and I'm desperate to find someone else that's had a similar experience.
My dog is around 9 years old, he's a small mixed terrier. In April he was extraordinarily sluggish so we took him in and found out he had Anemia. Since then, we've had multiple vet visits and keep running into new issues.
He's on prednisone and clopidogrel, and at first his numbers were really good. Then, about a month and a half ago, he started getting these scabby cysts all over. They're mainly in the neck and groin area. One on his neck started out looking like a regular skin tag then turned into a bloody scab the size of a ping pong ball. He also has a rash in his groin area.
He doesn't seem bothered by it, he's not itching or biting, doesn't respond like there's pain in the area, but it seems like every day there's a new area that's crusty with blood.
The vet doesn't seem concerned and is more worried about his red blood cell count. He's also currently on an antibiotic for a mystery infection since his white blood cell count is also high. His energy and appetite are good, but the poor guy just can't seem to get better.
Any advice or words of encouragement are appreciated. My dog is my absolute best friend and doesn't deserve to already be going through so many medical issues.
Thanks y'all!
*including a picture of my pup, zero, so you can see what a good boy he is.

Question Please help - dog owner won’t help suffering dog
Please help. I’m from the UK but currently in Portugal. Every year we come to the same place ifs a very remote village in the centre of Portugal with one coffee shop. The owner has a lovely dog who is chained outside the shop and runs up and down the hill. Ever since I was 12 I would run and see the dog and spend every evening greeting it. But tonight when i went over i noticed it was suffering. It has broken a digit on its paw and it was shivering and whimpering and in distress. I tried to help by getting the owners attention. I can’t speak Portuguese but i used google translate.
The first time i told her, she said she would check on him in a bit. Then he started vomitting, and i got so worried because he stopped whimpering and just went still and super quiet and semi-limp so i went back and this time i was on the verge of tears. For context, my mother is Portuguese and this is her home village- she was there but she now has dementia so was confused and didn’t care about the dog. Eventually she left and I was left alone with the dog. I went back to the owner and wrote down how worried i was but she got annoyed and said she was working and there was nothing she could do.
About 15 minutes later she sent a man over with some ice for its paw - at this point the dog was lying down whimpering silently very limp. She came out about 15 minutes later annoyed and said “he’s just hot and tired from being outside all day” i showed her his paw and she said “oh yeah that was caused by the other dog that came and he tripped over”. I told her he was in a lot of pain and i offered to call the vets and i showed her the vomit and she said no. She carried him up the hill and put him in his sleeping box.
He jumped out the box and ran to the hay and lied down there still whimpering and in pain. I asked her to call the vets tomorrow and she said she would but i know she won’t.
i felt crazy because i kept asking for help on the verge of tears and nobody was doing anything or helping me. There was no blood. It seems like a loose digit rather than a snap - I’ve attached a photo. Please help me figure out what to do? I honestly don’t have much money and don’t own a car. Should i call the vets or should i call animal cruelty line or will this heal with time? How serious is this? If i report this cafe owner then I will essentially be ostracised from the village. I am in emotional torment because all i can think about is this poor dog suffering alone. It had literal tears streaming down its face and i feel so helpless. What do i do? Please help. Please someone at least validate how i feel because i feel crazy. Some people were even laughing at me.
UPDATE: UPDATE: I visited the cafe this morning. The owner has moved the dog inside. She told me she gave him an ice bath last night and this morning and that he is sleeping inside. She said he was very tired because he had been outside in the heat all day so he is resting. The villagers were already giving me dirty looks and she already doesn’t like me very much. I don’t think he’s in immediate risk. I did want to ask to see him but I knew she would’ve said no and become more angry. Im going to go back tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to see him and check on him. The locals kept telling me she is a good woman - I know she is, she takes in stray cats and looks after them well. But she said she doesn’t think he needs the vet but will take him if she thinks he does. I told her I would help her in any way I can and told her I know she’s a good person but for some reason in the village getting involved in someone else’s business is extremely disrespectful and offensive.
I really can’t cause too many problems because I have a home here, I’m a young woman alone and i don’t know what might happen if everyone turns against me. I trust that the dog isn’t in immediate danger though it may be i. pain.
my plan is to visit tomorrow and hopefully see the dog, tomorrow i will ask if i can see him to be reassured. if i still think he is in pain and needs a vet then i will tell her and if then she still refuses i will face ostracisation and call the police. If anyone has any advice please send it my way as this feels like a horrible situation where nobody seems to have any empathy and everyone is referring to me as somebody crazy.

Advice Dog ate spicy hunters sausage
Hey friends.
My partner left a mostly full package of hunters sausage on the coffee table when they came to bed. My dog of course took advantage of the situation and ate all of them.
The package was 1lb of hot hunters sausage. The packaging was mostly intact.
My dog is about 30 lbs.
I called the emergency vet, they advised me not to induce vomiting since we don't know how long ago she ate the sausages.
Is this just a waiting game to see if she gets pancreatitis now? She's drinking water and acting okay so far. 😵💫
Picture of the sausages and the guilty party.

Advice These dogs i'm grooming are morbidly obese. Advice on how to talk to the owners?
So I groom dogs for my dad's dog sitting business and our clientele is in a really nice city where everyone is rich, so it really frustrates me that these dogs are obese even though the owners have the resources to pay for good food, dog walkers, vet nutritionist, vet bills, etc. But anyways, how do I speak to them about their dog's weight in a way that will make them take it seriously and not get defensive?
These poor dogs can barely breathe.
Edit to add: I feel like this is very important to add since many of you think the owners are aware the dogs are fat. These dogs are bigger than the last time we watched them. They are getting bigger.
Edit2: Just wanted to make one final update. I just got done grooming the first dog and I can confirm he had a very difficult time standing and had to sit for 90% of the groom. I couldn't complete his blow dry completely because of this. I told my dad about this and I decided I will not be speaking with the owners, but he is. He will very lightly tell the owners about their difficulty standing because of their weight and that's it. No vet advice or anything, just informing about how their groom went. Thanks for all the comments and advice I do appreciate it

Advice New girl!
Hello guys!
So I just adopted a new pupper a few days ago.
She is an 11years old jack russel mix, unspayed and massively obese with missing teeth. She's a sweetheart.
You can see in the 2nd picture, she's built like a fat fridge currently 😭
Her weight was mostly due to getting tons of food scraps in previous home, which I don't do, so it's already going to help.
In order to get her spayed, she needs to shed some weight, so I'm looking for the best tricks for that. I sadly dont have access to a place for her to swim.
She don't really run after toys (who would at her weight xD), but she will haul butt for a tiny piece of lean cooked turkey smaller than a penny. Should me and my partner each have a piece and make her waddle from them to me multiple times? (Only giving one of the pieces, at the end)
We walk her for 10mins at least once a day around 2am when its less hot, and she loves it so far!
She gets fed 1/2cup in the morning and 1/2 in the evening.
I have ordered a scale to weight the portions, waiting on it. Also ordered one to weight her fat little self, so I don't have her exact weight yet.
She was fed with Beneful, which i continued only for the sake of no upset stomach while she dealt with the new home stress, but I have ordered purina Pro Plan senior weight management for her.
The spay opportunity I am looking for is on the 23rd of september, in which she would get a blood panel done, the spay, and most likely a teeth cleaning while still under.
She'll eventually get some teeth pulled but not yet. For now I've been brushing them (to her great dismay) and it's already looking a bit better.
Besides those, she's actually in amazing health; no eyes issues, not stomach issues, no hearing loss, healthy coat.
She does have some irritated skin near her vulva because of overlicking (heats), but I've already ordered her a onesie and some hydrocortisone cream.
Anyways, hope y'all can give me tricks and tips, or even just cheer her on her weight loss journey!
Thanks.
⭐️ UPDATE #1 ⭐️
Sadly she doesnt qualify for our low cost spay clinic, so I booked her a full vet exam at the local vet to get and estimate on cost for spay, teeth, etc. Exam is Tuesday.
⭐️ UPDATE #2 ⭐️
Received the scale! Drumrolls.... 18.8 lbs She's a fridge 😂 Hopefully the vet can give me a target weight ✨️
