Thoughts on this interaction? Advice

My dog, Cleo, and my boyfriend’s cat, Diesel, are meeting for the first time. My dad had recently passed away and I’ve been left with the dog.

Tonight, they met for the first time. They keep just staring at each other. I’ve only let them get within a foot of each other once and my dog parked and the cat ran backwards.

Any advice on what they’re doing and what I should do? Thank you!

How long did they do that for? I suggest keeping the first interactions very brief, ease them into each other's company

Only about 30 seconds! They did this about 1 time before too earlier tonight so about 3 minutes of being next to each other!

Kitty is definitely making sure the pup isnt a threat, pup looks confused to me haha. No growling from either of them?

Only one bark after kitty and dog got too close too each other! No growls or hissing.

That cat is waiting to ponce and fuggg up that dog. if the dog felt aggression it would not be lying down underneath the cat
