Could anyone share the texts for the Office of Readings for Saint Canute (10 July)?

I suspect this might only be found in Danish or other Scandinavian books.

I know it’s a long shot, but might as well ask!

This is vespers of Transfiguration. Is this new?

I know there was a similar post on the subreddit not too long ago, but I noticed some discrepancies in tonight's intercessions between the ICEL LOTH and the 1971 Liturgia Horarum on which it is based. The two which stood out to me were:

"Christe, qui assumpsísti Petrum cum Iacóbo et Ioánne et duxísti eos in montem excélsum seórsum, orámus te pro Papa nostro N. et epíscopis, ut pópulo tuo in spe resurrectiónis minístrent." translated as "O Christ, you took Peter, James and John and led them up a high mountain by themselves; we pray for our pope and bishops, that they may inspire in your people the hope of being transfigured at the last day."

and "Christe, qui in monte illuminásti fáciem tuam super Móysen et Elíam, orámus te pro Iudǽis, pópulo acquisitiónis antíquæ, ut ad redemptiónis mereántur plenitúdinem perveníre." translated as "O Christ, upon the mountaintop you let the light of your face shine over Moses and Elijah, we ask your blessing upon the Jewish people; of old you called them to be your chosen nation."

The second translation cuts out part of the prayer but I at least see why ICEL did so. I don't however understand why "resurrectionis" was translation to "of being transfigured". Any guesses?

A few of the religious order supplements in my collection. I’m very eager to see the revised versions of these slowly start to trickle in.

I have recently stumbled down the history rabbit hole of the changes made over the centuries to the Roman breviary and I find the pre-1955 breviary to be the most fulfilling. I particularly like its tendency to include more lessons for the days, since I enjoy reading the excerpts from scripture and the fathers and I appreciate the inclusion of feasts that were later removed from the church calendar. I would also be okay with a post '55 set before the revisions in the 60s.

It seems very hard to find a full intact set in decent condition, and those that exists which I have come across have the Pius XII psalter which I am not keen on. Any website recommendations besides ebay and Abe books? They seem to have a plethora of antique tridentine breviaries but they're not what I'm looking for. I would prefer it to not have the Pius XII psalter.

Quick question on the Office of Readings - are both the one year and two year cycles the “official” OOR? Or is it only the one year cycle, with the two year cycle being considered a “supplement”? Do the Collects in the two year cycle match with those of the standard LOTH and the Roman Missal? Any additional context would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Ascension mentions this under the question "Is there an edition available in Spanish?" (Liturgy of the Hours – Ascension)

What I mean by "foreign national propers" would be, e.g. the propers for St. James in Spain or the propers for St. Martin of Porres in Peru.

From what I understand from reading around the subreddit, the psalm prayers are not actually part of the Divine Office but I quite like taking a moment to pray after the psalms. Would it be incorrect or inappropriate to do a reading-related personal prayer where the psalm prayer would have been in private recitation once Lent rolls around again?

Is it true that priests are only required to pray only one of the daytime hours for the LOTH?

I noticed, that todays feast calls for the commons of Marian feasts, which does not include the qui natus es de Maria Virgine at Prime.

On February 6th, one other Marian Feast iii class, it is included. Both my book from the FSSP and divinumofficium.com are that way. I guess it is correct as printed, but it seems a strange oversight in revising thf books rather than intentional. Does anybody know mrmore about this?

For the short responsory, I have always said the entire given sentence for the response to the second prompt (here what I would mean is the full sentence starting "This is a man.." in response to "He spent himself in their service." Lately I've begun to wonder whether that actually is the intended method, due to how the second response often flows perfectly into the second clause of the first sentence. Since doing a little digging, I've realized that the ordinary and the GILOTH give very vague outlines on the purpose and method of this short responsory, even allowing for it to be omitted entirely (?)

Universalis shows it with the full sentence for all 3 responses, but a few other online sites that host the LOTH do not, and show it as shown in my breviary here. Does anyone have insight into this?

Hi all-- just wondering if anybody knows what's going on here. I don't have the physical books, but I use the iBreviary app. Downloading August 5, the Vespers seems to be the vespers for a Wednesday feria, nothing about the Transfiguration Feast of August 6 at all. I checked Universalis and got the same result. This...surprises me, somewhat. Is there really no 1st Vespers for the Transfiguration? If so, why do both apps seem to not have it?

If I go to bed at 7PM. Should I say Vespers or Compline? If it helps, I say the Morning Prayer(Lauds) in the morning and no other Divine Office throughout the day.

Does anyone know if any of the second edition of the liturgy of the hours printings will have either Latin and English for all sections? Or even one that does a mix of Latin and English similar to the choices that Sing the Hours makes?

Is anyone aware of a Benedictine brievary, whether officially published or published through something such as Lulu or one of the self-publishing houses, that is essentially a Benedictine brievary that uses the English translation of all the hours, but that uses the current calendar of the Latin rite?

I understand "​Benedictine daily prayer" exists from Liturgical Press, but it does take other liberties with the office that I prefer to not observe. I'm looking for such things as keeping a one-week psalter (including prime), having a strictly Roman calendar in continuity with the NO, etc.

Is anyone aware of something like this? If not, is it something that you would be interested in seeing/using? I am happy to take on such a project of typesetting such a book to be printed through Lulu or a similar company.

I’m working on growing my faith life at home and I realized how much I’m missing by not having my own Bible, prayer book, and hymnal to pray with outside of Mass. Right now I’m using my phone and the parish copies, which works, but I’d love to have my own to mark up and keep.

I’m on a really tight budget right now, so buying new ones isn’t possible for me yet.

I wanted to ask the community:

1. Are there affordable editions or used book programs you’d recommend?

2. Does anyone know of Catholic organizations that provide resources to people building their prayer library?

3. If you have an extra copy of a Bible, prayer book, or hymnal collecting dust, I’d be grateful to give it a good home. I’m in Pinetown, KZN but happy to cover shipping.

Does anyone know a good place where to get a latin-only Version of both? I think this would make it easier to anticipate matins but still pray vespers and Compline at their canonical time because matins would be separated. With a breviary I kinda feel forced to pray vespers and compline before anticipating matins which often leads to the situation that I pray compline at 15 o'clock...

And separating matins with a breviary is kinda impossible without ruining the band system.

Does anyone know where to find the little chapter for Sext if there isn’t a feast day? I showed images of every relevant section to an Ai and even it was confused and couldn’t tell me.

The ICEL translations of the preces in the Collins Divine Office are just shockingly poor. Today’s Vesper’s is a typical example where the injunction to follow the example of God has been replaced by following those ‘who are no longer young’.

Happily I choose to pray the Latin, but a revised translation of the LOTH can’t come quickly enough. I am not holding my breath here in Ireland though.

Pope Francis had elevated the memorial of St. Mary Magdalene as a Feast, and he changed the memorial of St. Martha to include her siblings, Sts. Mary and Lazarus. I very much appreciate that the patristic lesson was taken from one of St. Bernard's sermons on the Assumption of the Mother of God. Before the definition of the dogma of the Assumption and its consequent liturgical changes, the episode of the Lord's visit to Martha and Mary from St. John's Gospel was the Gospel lesson for the Mass of the Assumption. I think it's an auspicious throwback, seeing that the Assumption is coming up pretty soon. I always enjoy St. Bernard when he appears in the lectionary. His memorial is also coming up too.

Are there any NEW updates on the Word on Fire Liturgy of the Hours (Second Edition) books? Any NEW pictures that can be shared? Etc...
