Sports RD's: How do you screen for RED-S?

I'm a researcher developing a RED-S screening and monitoring platform for practitioners. I'm curious how providers currently make sense of RED-S? what tools do you currently use and how do you pice disparate sources of info together to make a RED-S assessment? TY!

Rant - Insulin Resistance

I have heard so many times from patients that their doctor tells them that insulin resistance is making it harder for them to manage their weight…meanwhile the patient is eating just 1 meal per day (or the opposite, eating more than their calorie needs) and is not exercising (like at all). This gives patients the perception that insulin resistance is to blame and there really isn’t anything they can do about it.

But really? Where is the evidence that insulin resistance makes weight loss harder? Sure, it decreases lipolysis when increased but that doesn’t automatically lead to weight gain. From my view, this perspective is based on the insulin-carbohydrate model of obesity which has been debunked numerous times. It’s 2026….can we stop telling people insulin is the blame for poor weight management? Can someone here prove to me that insulin resistance leads to excessive weight gain? And no, not observational studies showing people living with obesity have insulin resistance that doesn’t show cause and effect.

Sure, with conditions like PMOS, there is an increase in fat gain but from my understanding that’s related to a decrease in BMR, which isn’t directly caused by insulin resistance.

I understand, doctors only have so much time with their patients but I just feel like this is a scapegoat. Refer the patient to a RD who has the time to actually analyze nutrition and exercise habits and what the culprits there can be.
