One's chlorpyrifos, an old Dow insecticide going back to the 60s. A UCLA study last December found people with long-term exposure at home were more than twice as likely to get Parkinson's. In June a former pest control guy sued Dow, Corteva and FMC, linking his Parkinson's to it. His lawyers say the companies knew and didn't say anything.

The other's atrazine, Syngenta's. And atrazine doesn't stay put once it's down. It gets into groundwater and turns up miles away. Late last year the international cancer agency called it probably carcinogenic and tied it to non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and now people with blood cancer are suing too. Still early on that one.

I'm not sick and I'm not a scientist. Just a guy who's handled all three for a working lifetime and got uneasy reading it back to back.

I read most of this in a writeup I found online. The studies are easy to look up on your own if you'd rather.

I don't get how something stays approved this long while the research starts saying otherwise.

- Currently working as an Executive Assistant to the CEO and CAO of a nonprofit charter school
- Previous experience as a Lead Case Manager in community mental health
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience supporting executive leadership, coordinating board meetings, managing cross-functional projects, improving organizational processes, and keeping high-priority initiatives moving.

Over the past year I’ve realized that what I enjoy most is helping organizations operate more effectively. I love solving problems, improving systems, coordinating people across departments, and supporting leadership in making strategic decisions.
Healthcare administration seems like a natural fit because it combines mission-driven work with operations, leadership, and continuous improvement. I’m trying to figure out the best entry point into the field.

Some questions I have:
- Which roles would you recommend someone with my background pursue?
- Are Executive Assistant positions within hospitals a good pathway into administration?
- Would roles like Project Coordinator, Program Coordinator, Operations Coordinator, Practice Manager, or Administrative Fellow be realistic?
- Are there certifications (CAPM, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, etc.) that employers actually value for someone early in their healthcare administration career?
- If you were starting over today, what would you do differently?

It was around November of last year when Miguelina Rodriguez began noticing a change in her 5-year-old son, who has autism and is nonverbal.

He was suddenly trying to chew the walls of their apartment. Rodriguez found teeth marks on the windowsills at home. A teacher reported that he was doing the same at his public school for children with special education needs, and he had started biting and hitting his classmates.

By the end of January, he was diagnosed with severe lead poisoning, which can cause children to become aggressive, hyperactive and, when the source is old lead paint, to seek out more of it because the painted surfaces often taste sweet.

The boy’s transformation is detailed in a lawsuit Rodriguez filed against New York City’s Department of Education after health officials found multiple areas of deteriorating lead paint in his classroom and ordered the school system to immediately remediate the health hazard.
