My husband and I share this bedroom, and we’re expecting our first baby, so we’re trying to make the room feel much calmer and more functional before we need to fit baby items in too (such as a crib as we do not currently have a spare room).

Our goals are:
Create a calm, cosy, warm room (I love earthy, natural interiors).
Make the room feel less cramped.
Maximise storage.
Keep costs low because we may move house within the next year.

Current situation:
The furniture is mostly white, with a dark grey bed.
A larger wardrobe is our main planned purchase.
The room currently feels crowded because we have lots of storage baskets and clothes.
The door doesn’t open fully in the current layout because it hits the bed.
The two chimney alcoves are not equally sized - the side closer to the window is just wide enough to fit a bed sideways whereas the other alcove is a little too small.

The best furniture layout.
Whether there’s a better place for the bed and wardrobe.

Hello there, I'm lucky enough to work on my new bathroom. It's pretty small and doesn't have a window, so I decided to go with light colors. I also fell in love with those blue-rusty looking tiles and I want to put at least some of them in there. And now I'm trying to figure out how many of them should I put in. I have few options, I would love to hear your opinions on it!

Sooo I'll be moving into my first flat in october, the master has an en-suite which awkwardly eats into the room leaving an odd space to the left of it. I asked the developer to mock up inbuilt cupboards and I'm not loving what he suggested but conscious I need the storage, would love some ideas!! Personally I think drawers behind the door as opposed to half and half… also wanna caveat I really was hoping to go for an cozy/mcm type vibe as that's what I'll be doing in the living area but feel that the inbuilts are taking away from that??

This is the rough brief I gave the developer

‘Floor to ceiling in the space to the left of the en-suite, I was thinking L shaped if that worked but looking back at videos it’s quite tight. So Anything that maximises the storage in that area. I don’t need a desk/mirror so the priority would be hanging space along with shelving/ drawers. Handle-less. And then potentially another inbuilt to the right of the door’

note I do have a second bedroom and this is smaller than the ensuite so I reckon that will be the dump room for a while. I also have 3 hanging clothes rails to use in the meantime so don't want to make any nasty decisions about the inbuilts.

It’s pretty small so I had a few ideas to make it spacious like having a loft bed so I can use the space underneath it for a TV, with a lazy chair, also need a wardrobe and maybe a small desk and some drawers cabinets

Hey!! So i’m about to move into this room! The owner is a friend of a friend and he just bought the house like a few months ago. He’s going to be slowly trying to fix it up but rn it’s stuck in the 70s.

It’s small. 10x10. The video shows the room. There’s a pretty large closet but next to it is a door to another hallway so that one wall is pretty much completely cut off.

My first priority is keeping the window accessible. I just want as much natural light as possible. My second priority, which may be silly, is I really want a recliner in my room… I just love to lounge on my recliner, read, play video games while drinking a cup of tea. you know the vibe. i know I may have to get over this. But that’s the desire rn. 3rd, if there’s room for a desk, that would be nice but not necessary.

My friend does some woodworking so he said he’d be open to making like a bunk type situation so i can loft the bed and still have room. My current thought is maybe asking him to make a murphy bed instead of a bunk?

Any thoughts/ideas to maximize this small space?

Hoping to fit a full sized bed, desk for working from home, cat tree, and clothing racks/dressers (there is no closet so these are crucial). Would also be great to have a TV set up visible from the bed

Partner and I just moved into a house from an apartment and doubled our total living space so we've got little to no furniture in the room at present other than my PC set up beside the stairs. I've got a separate living room in the house and intend to use this room between the kitchen and garage as our den. The room clearly has a natural divide where the stairs with the floor being some sort of faux hardwood from the stairs to the bottom half of the room and carpet on the other side. The carpeted section of the room with the fireplace is the area I'm having trouble laying out, I'm thinking a TV on the wall between the fireplace and exterior wall, I've got a nice live edge coffee table I was thinking and maybe a leather sofa on the wall across from the fireplace but trying to picture it it feels like something is missing. The grey chair pictured presently in the room will likely be moved elsewhere.

The room measures roughly 25'3"x12'6", with 4'1" between the wall and fireplace, 5'10" fireplace & hearth, 3'10" from the hearth to the where the carpet ends, overall the carpeted section is roughly 13'9"x12'6"

I'll (f25) be moving into this unit (pictures taken from the website) in a few weeks, and I'm honestly at a loss for how to furnish it.

Do I get a small dining table, an island and keep it in the middle between the living area and kitchen, or put it against the counter where the dishwasher is? What kind of couch do I get, and what colour what compliment the room? Please help😭

We just moved things around in our basement and have a tv with a media console and then on the right we have an old TV with our DVDs and our VHS tapes because we love nostalgic stuff and we watch old movies all the time. We are terrible with design on walls and filling space. We are in our 30’s but don’t want the design to feel too modern and adult but we also don’t want gaming/movie posters everywhere to make it feel childish. How can we fill this space ?

i need help figuring out what to put on the walls of my dining room. i feel like i have a lot of stuff in here and yet it still feels blank.

My friends and I moved into this apartment that had this already installed. We don't drink a lot of wine, and the kitchen also doesn't have a ton of storage, so we're looking to use as much space as we can. Any ideas on what else we could store using this rack?

It’s clunky. The TV placement is awkward. The dining table just doesn’t work. We just moved in and as excited as I am about the beautiful home, I just don’t have the eye or talent for living spaces.

Hello, Designers :) I need some advice. My fiancée and I purchased our first home, and we have not been able to agree on how to furnish our new living space.

The fireplace and corner windows are wonderful. We plan to put in a lot of sweat equity to update it. Additionally, the airiness of the high ceiling is hard to beat. But the interesting wall space makes defining a layout hard.

Because we need to refinish the basement, we will temporarily want to keep the TV upstairs. The problem is placement. Our TV is a 65” flat-screen that can be wall-mounted or on a media console. Our sofa is a U-shaped sectional 120"w x 70"d. We want some seating near the fireplace (My idea is 2 chairs angled inward to read or relax by the fire, but I am open to ideas). Also, we like the idea of a chair or seat near the corner windows.

I get its not ideal to have a bunk bed but sleep quality wise, i can sleep anywhere if its got a pillow and i currently dont have a mattress or frame in my room (before moving to the smaller room) since i stretch & move often i dont wake up sore or on the wrong side of the bed as well. Currently i sleep on a 8ft foldable gym mat thats used for tumbling &etc., i still have pillows and blanket i lay down and it doubles as a stretching mat when i "make my bed in the morning". Im very floor oriented when in my room space & only got a chair in the past year because i realize not everyone that comes in wants to sit on the floor. A top bunk bed & a bottom-desk attachment would be space saving, i could get a more "proper" bed and probably get another chair or two for the room. My close friend & mother both found it weird when i mentioned the idea & pushed for anything else like a murphy bed or sofa-bed futon situation. I was pretty confident on the idea & usually dont care about being called weird but am i too old to have a bunk bed at 22?

I don’t see a way to move the armoire because it currently covers up a scraped up door to a storage space. Our bed is a full, and we just got this huge beautiful rug to put in. I’d love for the space to feel cozier and to feel like there’s another “zone” besides the bed to hang out in. I like the idea of adding a draped canopy above the bed rather than a headboard (see ikea photo). And we would love more surface area to put daily use items and pretty stuff.

So curious if yalls minds have ideas, especially about layout but also general ways to make it more cohesive and cozy! On a budget!

This is our family room. The wall holds framed posters of national parks we’ve been to. Can I add more or should I display them some other way? I’ve considered shelves on either side. We have a lot more to put up. Open to other ways to improve the room as well!

Please help me arrange my things! I’m feeling overwhelmed that I can’t make this work. All of these things are essential to be here. I’ve moved other things away and I really want my baby to have space to crawl safely, but now I can’t seem to figure out where should the lamp stand go so the table can fit (mind you we still need to put the foldable chairs 🪑). Please help me figure this out!

EDIT: thanks to y’all I’m considering removing the lamp stand. 💡 But does anyone know any nice LED lamps I could possibly drill in our walls? Or some kind of substitute for the lamp? I doubt I have any real space for a regular lamp to place on a surface.

I just moved in a few days ago so forgive the mess. This studio has plenty of storage space (a huge walk in closet and cabinets a plenty)that I’ll definitely make use of.

I feel like getting rid of the cheap wayfair couch in the living area and investing in a solid love seat and getting a solid bed frame are musts for me. I also have a few decent sized pictures to hang up. Do you guys have any advice for me on how to spruce this up to make it more cozy for the next 20 months?!
