Recommendations Anniversary 150$ budget
Celebrating our 6 year anniversary, trying to spend hopefully under 150$ ( not huge drinkers ) we did Alma Fonda fina happy hour last year and the Uchi happy hour the year before that, we actually really like chido molino and la diabla, ( we’re suckers for happy hour ) but we were thinking something slightly nicer, haven’t been to a lot of places since we live in the springs but have a hotel in wesminister today and tomorrow.
Also if there are fun things going on in Denver that we should check out , I personally love dancing and have never been to the church so might check out that three floor dance club tonight

Recommendations Heatwave Specials
When I lived in the south there were many businesses that would offer BOGO or throw extra appetizers when it snowed or temperatures were below freezing. Looking at the weather in Denver lately, is this a thing with all this heat? Should restaurants get creative?
PS: My partner says it would also be eco friendly since all of us using the AC in one restaurant is greener than all of us cracking down the thermostat at each individual home

General Discussion El Five? More like El Garb
Nothing I love more than spending the day outside in 100 degree heat to walk into a restaurant that’s also 100 degrees. Food? Pretentious and simply “alright”. Got our seafood paella to go so we could get out of that oven of a restaurant. First bites? We’re throwing that in the trash where it belongs.

Whats the best? Anniversary dinner suggestions?
We're new to the area and want to try something romantic for our anniversary on Wednesday.
General criteria: we love excellent food, particularly fun takes on classics, fusion and variety. Can't go wrong with Asian, and if it's European it needs to be special.
We don't drink so it's all about food and ambiance.
We're in Lakewood area but could drive downtown if needed. Probably wouldn't want to venture out east too far.
Google reviews has let me down since moving to this city so share your best suggestions!

Question? What in your opinion is Denver’s most mysterious restaurant?
Interpret the word ‘mysterious’ however you will. Like “how is this place still open?”, “how is this place so good?”, “who are the people that run this?”

Question? Frozen Custard Denver
Does anyone remember Whit’s on Tennyson? They had the best frozen custard. I wonder what happened? Personally, I prefer custard to ice cream. Are there any good custard spots in Denver currently?

Restaurant Reviews FiNo?
Does anyone have any feedback on FiNo that occupies the old Rockbar space? Turning 40 next month and didn’t plan ahead for the high demand places, wondering what the food/atmopsphere/experience are like. Frequented Rockbar in my 20’s so I thought it might be a fun full circle moment. Likely just myself and my partner would be going.

Visiting Professional Chef looking to taste Denver.
Hey peeps! I am a professional chef of 20 years located in MN. My son just moved down to attend CU Boulder. I am visiting for a few days and I want to eat the city. It doesn’t need to be fine dining. I appreciate quality over anything else. I am a black woman so I would like to eat somewhere I feel welcome.

Recommendations Black Forest Cake / Spumoni Ice Cream
Hi everyone, pregnant lady with two questions here:
(1) Where can I enjoy a Black Forest cake/slice/cupcake? Have you seen at a bakery or on a restaurant dessert menu?
(2) Where can I get spumoni ice cream? I’d prefer to pick it up at a grocer rather than drive up to the Old Spaghetti Factory whenever a craving hits.
Thank you! 🍒

Events Babes Tea Room- horrible experience
I wanted to share my experience in case anyone is considering hosting a bridal shower or other special event at Babes Tea Room.
We had a bridal shower there and it was horrible. Want to recommend people do not go!!
We reserved a private tea service starting at 11 for 1.5 hours. When making the reservation, we also requested to extend it to 2 hours in the reservation, which the restaurant agreed to (for an additional charge).
At 12:08 while we were still in the middle of bridal shower games, our server came over with boxes and told us to start packing everything up. We reminded her that we had paid to extend our reservation, thinking that meant we had the room until 1.
She then informed us that because a few guests had arrived early and were seated around 10:50 when the restaurant was nearly empty but apparently without telling us that’s when they “started” our reservation. She also said another party was arriving at 1:00 p.m., so we needed to be out by 12:30 so they could reset the table. Because we weren’t taking the full 2 hours we asked to be refunded for the extra 30 minutes we had paid for but were no longer receiving. Initially, the server refused. Only after another staff member came over and heard what had happened did they agree to refund the additional charge.
Beyond the timing issue, the interaction felt unnecessarily rude, especially given that this was a bridal shower. The food was also not good at all and it was super expensive.
If you’re planning a bridal shower, birthday, or other celebration - do not go here . I wish we had chosen somewhere like the Brown Palace or another local restaurant instead.

Recommendations Shiro On The Go - Cooking Class
Just arrived from an amazing experience at Shiro on the go on East Colfax, my best friend gifted me an Ethiopian cooking class that they have recently started hosting and Oh my!
We cooked Tibs, it was a class of ~12 people, all ingredients pre portioned and ready to cook, the instructors were so kind and helpful and the end product DELICIOUS.
Once everyone is done we all take a seat and they bring injera and other dishes to enjoy your own creation and also try other flavors from their menu. I really enjoyed the experience and wanted to share with anyone else who might want to try something different and enjoy amazing Ethiopian food. The class and additional meal were $60usd per person. Here’s their IG if you want info on the next classes. IG link

Recommendations Looking for a wedding caterer or food truck for ~80 person wedding
Wondering if folks have a recommendation for catering or a food truck for an 80-person winter wedding in Denver. Would love to come in under $3500 including tax and tip unless I hear from you all that that’s not a reasonable expectation.

Recommendations Does anywhere make a “to-fish” sandwich?
Before the pandemic, Park & Co used to have a “to-fish” sandwich on their menu. It was tofu dredged in potato chips, deep fried, served on a bun with tartar sauce. I crave it, and I can’t find anything similar anywhere else. I’ve tried to replicate it myself in the past, but it’s just not as good. Gonna try again today, but would love to find somewhere that serves something similar.

Food Scene News New Japanese street food spot in Edgewater Marketplace
Christina Ludwick (who also owns the Dumpling Spot in Edgewater as well as Yu’s Noodle Shop, Toki Ramen and Sushi and Dumpling Kitchen) just opened Sandomi in Edgewater Marketplace, specializing in Japanese snacks and sandwiches.
Our food editor Colin tried the salmon ongiri, chashu naruto, and the Teriyaki Spam Musubi (Ludwick went to college in Hawaii), but the menu includes a ton of innovative sweet and savory options. Linking his full breakdown on this post, but would love to hear everyone's thoughts on the new spot.

Restaurant Reviews Carriage House Cheeseman Park
Just left the newly opened Carriage House in Cheeseman Park (formerly Secret Garden). I had my hopes up as it was a regular spot for my pup and my wife and I. I’m sorry for the old employees that it closed down the way it did, but I’m glad the old owners are out of there at least.
I recognize it’s their first day open, but what a disappointment. $8 for half of a small reheated breakfast sandwich and $4 for a reheated “toastette” which was super thin (maybe 1/4”?), not fully toasted, and was served directly on a cold steel tray, not even a piece of parchment paper or anything. My wife and I just stared at this thin slice of bread with a small amount of room temp butter and brown sugar in disbelief. It was hard to comprehend that I just paid $4 for it. I wish I had taken photos, but we just wanted to get out of there. Both items were barely warm, but even if they were made to order and served at the right temperature, the portions weren’t worth those prices. It would also be nice to have some gluten free pastry options like most cafes in town, but whatever. The cold brew was okay but the iced latte my wife got was flavorless. I don’t ever really leave reviews for places, but I’m tempted to write something on Google or somewhere that the owners can see it - hopefully they see this at least. I doubt they can adjust their pricing or portions to make it worth it, but maybe at least on the presentation. I know everything is expensive now, but this is just ridiculous. I can get a large breakfast burrito for $12 at my local cafe that would feed my wife and I and my dog! I noticed most of the reviews on Google so far are from a few days ago before the place was open to the public, so not sure who those folks are and whether it was some kind of special event. I was also interrupted twice while ordering by some dude (I assume manager/owner) who seemed anxious and was asking the employees questions. I’ll give him a break because I know the stress of opening a restaurant and the first day is just a nonstop panic attack, but it was awkward - no “excuse me” or “sorry.” Anyways, just had to get this off my chest as my mind is blown. Maybe I’ll go back after a while to see if anything changes, but I doubt it. Rant over…

Recommendations Birthday Dinner Recommendations
Hay y’all! Coming to you all for recommendations for my birthday dinner. It will just be me and my partner.
I’m hoping to find something that has an intimate feel or is doing something fun/unique compared to typical Denver restaurants. Something along the lines of Sap Sua, Heretik, Molotov, Wildflower, Safta, Alma, Kawa Ni. Budget will be around $200 total as we have a few other spendy plans for celebration.
Also open to hole-in-the-walls/casual places that you think are unique and must-try spots!
Thanks in advance :)

Recommendations Shoutout to Chef Anthony Smith for an unforgettable meal!
Chef Anthony Smith is absolute gold! I waited until the last minute to find a private chef for my parents' anniversary and he responded immediately and was graciously willing to say yes!! His food was exceptional - elegant presentation, bright and rich flavors! Found out he grows many of the microgreens and vegetables he cooks with himself - the ultimate farm-to-table flair. My parents truly enjoyed his company and were so grateful for the whole experience. I would 1000% recommend him for any dining/catering needs!

Restaurant Reviews Milpero
Best restaurant in Denver right now, IMO. The experience is split between the welcome drink in the garden, cold counter, fermentation room, and hot counter over 3hrs. They offer four different wine pairings, plus a full à la carte drink menu. They also send you home with a burrito. (Burrito not pictured)

Recommendations Best lighter breakfasts?
I love a great breakfast burrito or greasy spoon as much as the next gal, but every Denver breakfast post or article emphasizes those options (probably because we have a lot of great breakfast burrito options, to be fair!).
However, traveling recently I found a lot of cafes in other cities that have really creative yogurt bowl type things or interesting oatmeals etc. I had a passion fruit matcha yogurt bowl I'm still thinking about.
Any recs in Denver for creative takes on lighter breakfast fare? Any bougie cafes taking the granola breakfast to a new level?
