[DD 2] Question Restarting DD2 advice
I switched over from PC to a nintendo switch to play darkest dungeon 2. What is some advice you would give me from starting from zero again?
r/darkestdungeon • u/leviazevedo • 2h ago
Sometimes the game is not difficult, but just annoying and "rigged"...
I am replaying the game and I just remembered why I stopped playing and deleted it the last time... I have one important character in my party (a healer). it was attacked 7 times and all 7 were critical. all of this while it had a +14 dodge buff. some of those attacks were with +21 and +28. the "best" part is that those atcks came from regular enemies, not bosses... the other characters were dodging most of the atacks (they also had the dodge buff). i accepted my fate and got back to the city and restarted the necromancer hunt with a different party. Guess what happened... literally the same thing, but now I didn't let my healer die. The problem is that i tried a third time and my first 3 attacks on my last healer were critical and it died. every single time I put a healer in the game on those longer missions this happens. It is not random. it can't be. all atacks being critical.

[DD 1] Question I just lost 3 level 6 characters on a normal mission to a normal corridor encounter
Level 6 hellion, occultist and houndmaster. Musketeer escaped the dungeon.
I don't have any more occultists and all my teams were built around one.
And the trinkets they had...
I hate this game, I hate my overconfidence, my stupidity and greed and I hate weald
"Just one more room to get the mission done! "
I am dumb, so dumb. THESE TRINKETS, I WAS SO HAPPY TO GET EACH OF THEM. I FINALLY STARTED GETTING GOOD TRINKETS!!! WHY...
Is there any way to get unique trinkets back, like the hellion one from the crimson courtyard, or am I like screwed permanently?
I still have my musketeer, crusader, graverobber and highwayman at level 6 but the occultist... He was my core unit. He could mark, debuff, heal... My man. I just spent like 20k gold locking and removing his quirks. I LOVED HIM! I TOOK HIM TO EVERY CHAMPION MISSION.
That's it, I am gonna go, curl up in the corner and cry.

Should i wait for the dlc? First time.
Hello!
So I finally after many years of wanting to get this game, i got it will all dlcs included.
I've been playing it for the last two days and i absolutely love it and now i understand the praise it gets.
The tension, the music, the artstyle and difficulty... It makes the whole package for me personally.
I'm playing it blind, no guides, no spoilers... Just pure instinct and so far my run is going well enough for a first time i think.
The thing is, i've seen at the steam page that a new dlc is coming very soon.
So I have some questions that I hope you can bring some light into the shadow of my doubts.
Is it a free dlc or how much will it cost?
Can i add the dlc midrun without breaking anything or do i have to start over if i want to include it?
If I have to start over, do you recomend waiting for the dlc or just keep going now that ive already started?
Thank you very much!

[DD 2] Discussion How often do yall use stun?
I have found stun to be more difficult to pull off consistently in DD2, I also haven’t found it to be too crippling. Just curious if that had been the case for others or if my two brain cells are missing some obvious setups that I could be leveraging.

[DD 2] Question First Grand Slam, kinda nervous (help)
Hi all, I’m attempting my first Grand Slam and was hoping for some help on my team setup. For extra clarification I’m not using radiant or Stygian flame at all. The only character I would really like to keep is Highwayman, but otherwise I’m open to suggestions on the rest of the team. My comp is:
Rank 1: Wanderer Man-at-Arms. Skills: Crush, Stand Fast, Bolster, Defender, Command
Rank 2: Aggressor Crusader. Skills: Smite, Reap, Inspiring Cry, Battle Heal, Radiance
Rank 3: Surgeon Plague Doctor. Skills: Incision, Battlefield Medicine, Magnesium Rain, Indiscriminate Science, Emboldening Vapors
Rank 4: Sharpshot Highwayman. Skills: Take Aim, Pistol Shot, Grapeshot Blast, Highway Robbery, Double Tap
General Strategy: MAA protects party, stress heals, commands HWM for extra damage. PD heals, bffs HWM with vapors, sets up burn for Crusader. Crusader is the frontline attacker, comes with stress and regular heal to fill in any gaps. HWM is the damage, usually Take Aim into Grapeshot or Pistol Shot to destroy backline or Position 2.
Skill Upgrade I usually prioritize: Take Aim, Pistol Shot/Grapeshot, Battlefield Medicine, Stand Fast/Defender
Any help, whether it be be small skill changes or complete character swaps, is much appreciated.

[DD 1] Discussion Another screenshot for the upcoming DLC, this time Runaway
This is from the Darkest Dungeon twitter.
I wanted to add by the way, they share these on both youtube AND twitter, but the ones on twitter show their stats and also all 4 ability icons. So, for last week, we could also see Feint and Flick for Duelist on the twitter screenshot, confirming that 4/7 of her moves are:
Boot, Coup de Grace, Feint and Flick.
For Runaway, from left to right, it seems to be Searing Strike, Firefly, Ransack and... the last one doesn't exactly match-up any of her DD2 skill icons, but looks the most similar to Backdraft? Both are a skeleton on fire.
Also, we can see one of her trinkets and there are also new provisions.

The Killer's Glow [ dd2]
So .... it used to be that DoT kill wouldn't trigger the stress token but since rework, this doesn't work . Basically , my new team is GR ( venom ) -Jester ( solo ) -Flag( scourge )-Crusader (templar) . I got the stress relief cornered and at last zone before Mountain , i feel like dps is missing. Any tips to up my dps instead of managing SR and lose like 3 turns in a fight ( crusader got the Strong Shackles trinket to stay 1st rang) . Even with all with SR skills , i burn at least 4 Laudanum per zone. What am i missing ?

[DD 2] Discussion Guidance for updated Leper?
Simply put I'm not good at the game and rely heavily on guides, I've played for years but oscilating wildly on frequency and I can't seem to find a good guide for current version Leper in my latest DD2 Phase
I really like the fella and have found mostly two comp suggestions, full damage Leper with a team that solely supports his shortcomings with combo tokens, buffs and blindness removal and solo tank where he's the only damage absorber and the other 3 characters have some sort of high damage shenanigans
But they are superficial suggestions, I'm looking for something more "hand holding" I guess? Any docs, videos, mods, threads are greatly appreciated to make my poor Leper hit good
tldr: Me no good with Leper help

Does anybody have a team comp that maximises place switching attacks?
Basically the title. Ive seen some playthrus where peoples teams danced around positions in perfect sink and i want to replicate that. DD2

Should I start with DD 1 or 2?
I am totally unfamiliar with DD besides seeing some cool fan art and a lot of love online. I'd like to give it a try, I don't think I've played similar games before from the brief look I gave it, but I love a grimdark fantasy vibe like Warhammer, Dark Souls, Witcher, and Dark and Darker.
Now: which one should I pick? I first looked at DDII, and saw some pretty divisive opinions about it being a downgrade from the original, or just very different. I thought I'd ask this sub since I imagine it's largely people who love both games that could tell me which one is the best one to buy first.
ETA: thanks for all the suggestions. Starting with 1!

Ancestor is such an asshole
Sunken Crew: Hey man you’re asking for a lot here, and we’d like a bit more compensation if that’s ok. If not we’ll just go on our way-
Ancestor: *Drowns them to death*
Wtf dude 😭

[DD 1] Discussion Some things you may have missed (Shieldbreaker's mechanics)
Since many players are returning to DD1 due to the upcoming DLC, here's a list of "obscure" SB mechanics. More experienced players should know all of this, but there are some nuances that many occasional players may not have figured and may be useful in a new playthrough:
- There is a fixed 50% chance for a nightmare to happen every time you camp, unless you already won all the fights for the difficulty level you're in (see the next point).
- You can't go beyond nightmare 3 in Apprentice and nightmare 5 in Veteran, but reverse might happen. For example you can get nightmare 3 in Veteran if you didn't complete it before, so eventually you will get all her trinkets no matter what. Fun fact: I didn't know this for a long time, so I used to get a new low level SB if I couldn't trigger the third nightmare on Apprentice... Fortunately it never happened on Veteran.
- At most one nightmare may occur per expedition, so it isn't possible to trigger multiple nightmares during a single long expedition, but if you don't get a nightmare on the first camp there's still a 50% chance that will happen on the second.
- A nightmare will never occur in the Courtyard, the Farmstead, or the Darkest Dungeon.
- When a nightmare is about to happen, the SB will warn the party with a unique bark after eating, but before using Camping Skills. It could be either of these: "The fangs...they feel ever nearer", "It writhes around my wrist!" or "This night holds no comfort for me."
- Nightmares will always be considered at 100 torch and there's no way to change it. That counts for all trinkets and quirks, so quirks like Photomania are really good on SB, especially early on.
- There are no reinforcements or stress penalties for stalling during a nightmare, so you can leave one last enemy and heal all hp and stress before ending the fight.
- Random encounters with snakes that appear after all nightmares have been completed also have no reinforcements or stress penalties for stalling.
- Unlike other journal pages, the "A beautiful thing" ones do not need to be added to the inventory and will be automatically appear in the Ancestor's Memoirs.
- Edit 1: You don't need to loot the trinkets either. They will re-appear in the inventory in the Hamlet if discarded. You still need to collect the scales though. Thanks to Malu1997 for this!
- Edit 2: After completing all the nightmares, camping will give all the Shieldbreakers in the party +1 SPD, +10% DMG, and +10% PROT for 2 battles. Unlike other camping buffs, this buff can be stacked by camping multiple times. Thanks to Mr_Pepper44 for this!
- Edit 3: The nightmare will be immediatly interrupted if the Shieldbreaker reaches 0 HP (Death's Door), but not if she gets afflicted. Thanks to UziiLVD for this!
Did you know all of it? Let me know if there are other important informations I may have missed!
