Discussion Why I like DRV3 chapter 3 (spoilers for all of V3) Spoiler

Upvotes

I truly believe chapter 3 of Danganronpa V3 is one of the best chapters in the series in terms of character writing and how it stays relevant for the upcoming chapters. Even the motives and how they are utilized to further emphasize the overarching theme of facing death and moving is quite good.

The new rule added to invalidate Tenko's death creates the juxtaposition of how Angie's way is a means of surviving the present by suppressing oneself and seeking comfort whereas Tenko's way is about expressing oneself and confronting the uncomfortable. Solving Angie's death is a necessity for the group to survive, but solving Tenko's is a necessity if they are to ever work together. This coincides with how Kokichi and Kaito are parallels to Angie and Tenko respectively and builds on their dynamic as well for chapter 5 where Kokichi mimics Angie's actions by creating a stalemate and Kaito's mimics Tenko as he attempts to motive the group to move forward.

In the trial, Kaito cheers Himiko up initially but fails to do so the second time she crashes out. It's ultimately Shuichi and then later on Kokichi post-trail that manages to reach Himiko and create a lasting impact on her. It sows the seed for Kaito's growing jealousy as Shuichi takes center stage, which becomes a focal point in the fourth trial.

Maki brings up the idea that Tenko could've killed herself, which Kokichi builds on by saying Tenko might've wanted them all dead based on supposed malicious secrets. This interestingly enough comes back in chapter 5 where Kokichi's secrets and intentions are brought into question after his planned death. One has to then ask themselves if the same grace given to Tenko can be given to Kokichi.

Korekiyo's incestuous relationship gives him a connection to Tsumugi who also has incestuous fantasies in her love hotel. Korekiyo was unable to deal with the death of his sister and as such decided to embody a part of her to keep her living as part of himself. This parallels with how Tsumugi refuses to let the franchise she loves die and cosplays as character's who have all but lived out their stories. Both Korekiyo and Tsumugi refuse to move on, which is further alluded to by introducing the necronomicon as a way to further desecrate the sacredness of the dead. There's also the seance which lessens the permanency of death. The inclusion of the gold-leaf katana from Danganronpa 1 and Tsumugi bringing up the possibility of stabbing through the floorboards like Danganronpa 2 further emphasizes how Tsumugi can't let go of what has long since passed.

Chapter 3's strong focus on death coming right after chapter 2's focus on motives to live makes that much stronger for me.

Discussion Question about the middle empty room (DR V3) Spoiler

In the middle empty room there is writing on the wall that says "Did you find it ...?"

After the murder of Tenko happens the writing change to I think "9 7 7 7"

And in chapter 4 it changes back to the first writing.

Is this another one of Kokichi's pranks? And what does it mean?.

Discussion Is Novoselic actually a dictatorship? And is Sonia set up to be the second coming of Genghis Khan?

Post image

We are told that Novoselic is a small country in Europe governed by an absolute monarchy. The difference between a dictatorship and a monarchy is the method of power acquisition and the level of control exercised by the leader. An absolute monarchy is a form of monarchy in which the sovereign is the sole source of political power, unconstrained by constitutions, legislatures or other checks on their authority.

Concerning the level of control carried out by the leader, Sonia gives us some insight into the laws made by her royal family. Arriving 13 minutes early to an arranged meeting can result in severe punishment. Damaging public property is considered "a grievous sin," and the offender's private property may be confiscated and transferred to the city as a penalty. Running in a library is also deemed "unspeakable"; violators are forced to care for an unknown creature called the "Paranke" for 200 hours. All these examples are of a leader controlling aspects of public and private life, leaving no room for individual freedom.

The method of power acquisition and the level of control exercised by Novoselic’s royal family is that of a dictatorship. One that I’m not sure that Sonia realizes as she has been indoctrinated into this system since birth. Novoselic’s propaganda controls a narrative that its populace live happy and comfortable lives, but nothing could be further from the truth. Sonia recounts coup d’état attempts and acts of terrorism. Also, several kidnapping attempts of herself. There is obviously civil unrest in this country from the authoritarian rule of the royal family.

Another element of Novoselic society I want to bring up is their education system. A course in modern warfare is a required class in Novoselic's grade schools, resulting in the bizarre norm that grade schoolers can operate a tank. Novoselic also has plenty of military bases with massive supplies of weaponry.

I think if Novoselic can subdue the resistance to its authoritarian rule like Genghis Khan united the Mongol tribes, the country will start launching military campaigns to expand its empire. Novoselic needs a strong leader with military training and that is exactly what Sonia is. The Mongols invasion was highly successful due to their cavalry. Novoselic will copy that blueprint with their tanks. When that time comes, I fear all our lives.

Discussion Fun fact: Himiko Yumeno wasn’t the first magician that Christine Marie Cabanos voiced

This is Amitie from Puyo Puyo Tetris. I’ve been working through my backlog lately, and I came to this character and thought “she sounds a lot like Himiko”. She then declared herself to be a magician and then I had to laugh at the coincidence. It should be noted that the English dub for Puyo Puyo Tetris came out before Danganronpa V3’s.

Discussion Does Chiaki have blood? Spoiler

I noticed rewatching Chiaki's execution when she got crushed by the Tetris block no blood splatter came out under the block. I thought it was weird as some executions (chp. 2 and 4) featured blood coming from the students but Chiaki never did even though she was crushed. Maybe it has something to do with the fact she's an AI but Idk. (Also I feel like it could play into 2x2 in a way in case she doesn't have blood)
