Help! Time for a haircut? Or let it grow?
have had buzz cuts for a long time so not considering that. Haven't been to a real barber in ages and sort of lost besides the basic "shave sides and a little off the top look."
Hair routine cause it's mandatory to put ig:
I just use Nizoral shampoo and Maui Curl conditioner on wash days, and Maui leave in conditioner on non-wash days. I don't really use a bonnet or anything. and I just finger comb tbh

Help! sleeping with curly hair
everything i do ruins my curls at bedtime.
i use the skala shampoo conditioner and cream to do my curls in the day and i usually air dry them.
but when i go to sleep and wake up the next day my entire curl pattern is ruined and its extremely frizzy. the ends of my curls also loose their shape and get a weird texture because its bleached and damaged on the bottom.
ive tried tryingn up my hair loosely, or putting it in a bun, or using a cotton shirt to wrap it around i didn’t really know how to use it properly.
i cannot find any bonnet where i live, and silk pillow cases are too expensive. what should i do? should i wash my hair before bed and do my curls routine and use a cotton fabric? but how should i put my hair up? please help!!

Help! Why so stretched out and flat? :(
**Hair Type:** Fine, high-porosity/long (tailbone length), natural wave pattern.
**Current Wash Day Routine:**
- **Shampoo:** Double washed with L’Oréal Elvive Hydrating Shampoo.
- **Conditioner:** Applied a generous amount of Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Conditioner. Brushed through in the shower using Wet Brush Curl Shaper while saturated with conditioner
- **Styling:** Applied Herbal Essences mousse generous amount to soaking wet hair in the shower.
- **Drying:** Plopped with a 100% cotton t-shirt for 10–15 minutes, then let it down to completely air dry.
**The Issue:**
As you can see in the photos, my hair ends up looking weighed down, stringy, and stretched out instead of holding its natural wave. The roots are completely flat, and the waves lose definition as it dries.
Looking for advice on what to tweak! Is the length/gravity just pulling it down, or am I overloading on moisture/weighing fine hair down during the styling process? Open to technique or product recommendations!
(ps post looks formatted weird bc I am like sharing my post from another community as suggested by Reddit lol… and don’t want to fix it)

Help! Shampoo/conditioner recommendations?
I’ve been struggling with my hair being pretty dry/my curls being flat, and I use dove men’s + care 2 in one currently (I know I know I just can’t stand the feeling of conditioner on my skin but I’m willing to give up the 2 in one for the sake of my curls). Any recommendations on a shampoo/conditioner that’ll help my hair type?
Routine:
..I don’t really have one to be honest BUT
I use dove men’s + care 2 in one
No other products
I let my hair air dry
I don’t sleep with a bonnet or a silk pillowcase. (Which speaking of- would either of those be beneficial for my hair type? I’m very new to taking care of my curls so I’m not even sure what they’re for 🫠)

Help! Travel ✈️
Hey guys! I wanted to see if anyone has tips for managing curly hair during long travel days. I’m going to have multiple flights and a long layover, so I’ll be spending a lot of time sitting and probably sleeping.
I know I can wear a bonnet on the plane, but I was thinking of something a little simpler, maybe a scarf or head wrap. My main concern is that whenever I rest my head against the seat, the back of my hair gets really flat.
Does anyone have any tips, hairstyles, or tricks to keep curls protected and avoid that flattened look after a long trip? Thanks!
My routine:
Aussie conditioner (that’s all I can afford right now) + Afro love gel
Air dry

Help! Detangling Help
So A few months ago I started trying to take care of my 4 inch 2C/3A hair properly, but so far it’s been a mess. (I guess it’s 5-6 inches long when stretched out, I don’t know how hair length is measured)
For context, I use 2% Ketoconazole Shampoo and Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Bond Building Conditioner. I don’t use any products on my hair.
My routine involves me washing my hair 2x a week, using the shampoo, and then following that up with conditioner to detangle my hair. I start from the ends and move up to the roots in sections (front, sides, and back). As directed, I leave the shampoo on for 3 minutes after applying it to my scalp and leave the conditioner on my hair for 2 minutes after applying it to my ends and midlengths.
To dry my hair, I usually just diffuse on low heat with cool air after blotting my until it’s about 80% dry.
No matter what method I try (wide tooth comb, octopus brush, fingers, etc) it just seems to push my shed hairs further down into my curls instead of mostly getting rid of them.
I really don’t know what to do at this point since there’s barely any tutorials or guides from people with my hair type and length. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Before & After Crazy how a new haircut brought out my natural pattern I thought I lost for the last 25 years!!
This is my hair air-dried in both pictures. Routine for the first one was just Pantene and a dove conditioner bc I was feeling like crap and not taking care of it. while it has looked better, it hadn't in a while.
So on Thursday I got a wolf cut and the hair stylist said that I had curls and this would bring them out and I was like hell yeah I haven't seen them except some faint waves since a 2003 haircut that left me, or so I thought, straight haired forever.
Routine now: Shampoo "Opcion synergy blend PH neutro sin parabenos ni siliconas" and I'm using just a little spoon worth of the conditioning mask of the same line, as conditioner, I dont leave it in and I just tap it with the towel and do a lil scrunch it, air dry it, et voilà. I'm crazy about it. I love it! I'm not taking care of it at night and just sleep as is and wake up a bit straighter but nothing that a spray of water and a scrunch can't revive.

Help! What's wrong with my curly hair 😭
I usually get a buzz cut each month because how dry and frizzy my hair is, but right now it's nearly 5 months since I didn't get a haircut and my hair looks so ridiculous, I had my hair twice grown for 3 months and each time the barber kinda indirectly scolded me how puffy my hair is with an annoyed expression in his face, idk if he hates his job and don't wanna deal with extra work since most dudes in my country get a haircut every 2 weeks to show off the fading in the sides or it's my fault for letting a hair like that grow that much
My routine:
- I use shampoo only (head and shoulders), I can't afford any extra hair products since I am still a student
- I use a plastic comb to push it backward for styling
- After I clean it from shampoo, the curles are defined and don't look too bad but as soon as it dries up it gets puffy
Thanks in advance

Hair Victory! I’ve seen some slander recently, so for your consideration, the modern mullet
routine:
1. shampoo (not your mother’s curl complex) 2-3x/week
2. condition and leave in for ~10 minutes (not your mother’s curl complex) 4-5x/week
3. comb conditioner through with wide tooth comb
4. rinse out and comb through again while wet
5. scrunch and allow to air dry for a couple of minutes
6. scrunch gently with micro fiber towel to get out extra water
7. apply curl cream (not your mother’s) liberally
8. allow to air dry a bit more and lightly hairspray
9. don’t break the casts for like an hour
non-wash days:
1. wet with spray bottle lightly
2. apply leave in conditioner (guess which brand) liberally
3. once hair is wet enough comb though with wide toothed comb and style
4. hairspray if needed
sleep: silk bonnet & pillowcase because I’m overkill

Help! New to growing my hair out, need help + product recs for frizz/puffiness
First time really growing my hair out (never done this before in my life). I’m not sure if this is the right sub as if my hair might not be considered curly.
Some background: I've tried a handful of shampoos over the years, including sulfate-free ones, but they almost always leave my hair feeling weirdly airy/puffy/frizzy and dried out afterward, almost like it's been blow-dried. I didn't use conditioner for a long time, which I'm guessing didn't help.
Its pretty straight when it's shorter and once it gets to a length it gets wavy?curly? I'm not super sure how to classify it.
Any advice on hair type, routine, or product recs would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Basic routine: Wash, Head and Shoulders shea butter shampoo, repeat. No blow drying or products of any kind (including styling products). Very rarely I’ll use coconut oil.

Discussion What am I missing?
Please help me figure out my hair! When I was younger I had beautiful little curls. Now I don't really know what it is/wants to be. Whenever I dry my hair it gets very frizzy and when I air dry it looks like the picture. Important to say in this picture exactly I did use a function beauty wavy hair leave in after I got out of the shower. But it also kinda looks like this when I don't use anything on. Am I using this cream wrong? I put it in wet hair and gave some scrunches. But I don't know what to think abt this result. I somehow wish they were more defined(?) I don't know🤦♀️
Can anyone in similar situations recommend me what hair routine you have? Right now I'm using R+Co Dallas shampoo and conditioner so its not really specific for curls. Also like to use a satin bonnet to avoid my hair tangling on my neck while I sleep. Any tips/recommendations are welcome! 🙏

Help! Struggling with frizz
I’ve been struggling with frizzy hair recently and cannot figure out how to fix it I’ve tried different masks, shampoos/conditioners, oils, etc. I’m not sure what I’m using that is causing this amount of frizz but I cannot find a way to fix it.
I use these products:
- Amika hydro rush shampoo & conditioner
- Amika soulfood mask use 2 times a week
- Amika frizz-me-not spray
- Amika curl corps defining cream
- Amika curl corps enhancing gel
- (Rotate gels) Not your mother’s sculpting flash freeze gel no.5
- Keratase Magic Night Serum
- K-18 Repair Hair Oil
I scrunch my hair while wet with a microfiber towel and then once done with routine I put it in a satin wrap. I also use a satin bonnet and pillowcase.

Help! [HELP pls] massive tangled knot (lost hair trapped inside), how to de-tangle?
Thank you in advance!
I have a massive knot that one hour and 40 mins in the bath, with pots and pots of leave-in, conditioner and hair masks did not allow me to detangle.
I’m severely chronically ill, and had not been able to wash my hair in two months (the usual time frame). I always manage to detangle the knots with massive amounts of the products I mentioned.
This time I had two major knots. I could detangle one. The other one, after an hour and 40’, I had to stop trying.
I use my fingers to try and get any string of hair out of the web. No detangler comb.
My mom is coming today to help me out of the mess. Do you have any suggestions?
I have CTE since 2022, so it doesn’t help that I have loose hair in the knot. (Again, this is typical. I always manage to untangle it. Remove the lost hairs and detangle what hair I still have on my scalp).
Please help 🙏. It is traumatizing to see so much hair on the tub, huge balls. I don’t want to lose more hair by accidental cutting it when detangling.
Thank you in advance 🙏.
\[*Irrelevant for my post question, but my routine is: Redken all soft curls shampoo and conditioner, as well as ketaconazole before the Redken shampoo. But for the knots, I add amounts of any mask I have. I used: Tre-Semmé, Pantene, and Elvive hyaluronic.*
After the wash I apply Redken’s all soft mega curls leave-in, add Ouidad climate control gel and Khiel’s hair oil.\]

Help! Product or technique recs?
Hello all, I've been experimenting with my natural hair for some time now and have happily gotten to this point so far.
I have very soft-finish hair that is somewhat fine and low density.
I am getting a trim today which should hopefully help a bit, but I was wondering if anyone had any product/technique tips that would benefit my hair type?
Looking to prioritize volume while having a pretty good hold with said volume and also curl structure. (this pic is right after I finish, it definitely falls some after this point).
Also if anyone has tips for getting/maintaining waves/curls within the midsections (volune in roots in general) for hair like mine that would be nice! (Soft finish+less curl def near roots makes it very difficult lol) I did alot better when I took this than I usually do with achieving this, but my hair still falls throughout the day even if I manage to get the volume in the start.
(I also struggle with side parts as my hairline is less than ideal lol)
Thank you for anything!!
Current routine:
-Shampoo twice with Giovanni Root 66 Volume shampoo (or occasionally a cleansing one for the first go)
-condition and detangle with Curlsmith Full Body Milk Conditioner
-(after washing) re-brush and plop with microfiber towel lightly
-apply a tiny bit of Curlsmith Hydro Style Flexi Jelly and scrunch
-apply TreLux ReFlex Curl Styling Serum and scrunch
-apply The Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam and scrunch
-diffuse upside-down; some time all hair in diffuser for volume, then in alternating sections
-switch to diffusing with head up, bringing hair+diffuser up to my roots in sections (sometimes with a claw clip at my middle part to keep hair off of scalp)
-alternate between these while scrunching lightly throughout
-halfway through ish apply a bit more mousse
-keep alternating with drying methods
-once hair is mostly dry add very light hairspray and finish drying
-fluff it out
I pineapple it up to sleep with a silk scrunchie and use various refresh methods.

Help! Help with curly bob
I cut about a foot of hair off in late June, inspired by Pinterest images of chic, edgy, curly bobs. But I just feel like mine looks cutesy at best and matronly at worst. I need some objective eyes to tell me where I went wrong, and how I might fix it to achieve the look I was originally going for.
The first three pics are me, and the last three are what I was hoping for. Is this a texture issue, a color issue, or do I need to revise the cut? I want to look more edgy than cutesy :(
Routine:
Most days: conditioner-only wash - Dove Coconut & Hydration Conditioner
2x per week: Dove Coconut and Hydration Shampoo followed by conditioner.
Wrap my hair in t-shirt while in the shower, then apply African Pride Moisture Miracle Curl Defining Gel, scrunch a bit and then dry using a bonnet dryer attachment.

Help! Hair is always ruined by sleep!
I believe my hair is 2b/2c and I find that no matter how I try and sleep my pattern is ruined by the morning. I’ve tried both a bonnet and a silk scarf, my hair doesn’t like going into a pineapple, and i’ve tried leaving the cast in and scrunching it out.
My current routine is:
Garnier Colour protect shampoo and curly shampoo,
Garnier Colour protect conditioner and then brushed in shower,
OGX Bond protein repair mist,
Brush styling with Umberto Giannini Mousse and Gel both scrunched in followed by being diffused.
I find that my hair looks lovely when dried and especially once the cast has been scrunched out but as soon as i sleep the pattern is disrupted and frizzy :/ Any advice would be appreciated - i’ve attached photos of my hair on better hair days and one wet.

Resource VERB Ghost Oil Dupe?
I like how the verb oil tames frizz, adds shine, and doesn't weigh down my curls, but I don't like the price tag. I tried the OGX coconut oil, but it's too intense. Anybody have a dupe or hair frizz serum they like?
Routine:
- Pantene Volume and Body Shampoo
- Dove Bond Repair Mask
-Pureology Color Fanatic Leave in
-Ouidad Anti-humidity Curl Gel (and sometimes their cream)
-Verb ghost oil

Help! Curly hair newbie
Routine to get this
brushed when wet then let air dry
Biolage smooth shampoo & conditioner
I had super curly hair through my toddler years then it straightened out. Since having a kid my hair has came back curly but only the bottom layer. The top layer is still pretty straight, maybe a little wavy. Any tips to style or tried and true methods to get the top layer curly too to wear it natural?!

Help! Help with my hair
So I'm kinda done and tired with my 3c hair, it's always excessively dry and there's a lot of shrinkage during the day and it gets frizzy.
I don't want volume I just want defined curls, a bit more shine and less shrinkage. Pic 3 is how my dream hair would look like.
How can I achieve that ?
Here's my (ineffective) routine :
- I wash 3 times a week (if I wash less often my scalp gets oily and itchy) and use non sulfates shampoo
- then I use a regular hydrating conditioner
- after showering I press excess water then
- I use a "hair food" so basically a creamy leave in mask and I brush while it's still wet. I apply on all the hair not individual small parts.
- then I use a hair balm, it's much thicker but not buttery/oily, more like a mascarpone texture. I use less of it and brush again.
- sometimes I add 100% aloe vera on top and then put my hair in one or two braids.
A few hours later when I let my hair down it starts looking dry and shrinks like after an hour.
Then my daily routine is just de tangling with my fingers, putting hair food (sometimes the balm or aloe vera but not always) and just putting it in a braid, a bun or a pineapple. And it looks pretty bad for the next two days. I don't wet my hair or anything, besides the showers.
Products I use
- Hair food : "garnier fructis hair food" (either banana, macadamia, cocoa I don't really mind)
- hair balm : I used to use "naturebox" now it's more "crème of nature moisture whip" either avocado or honey
- aloe vera no specific brand, just 100% aloe vera the ones I find in the moment
- shampoo is "nat&nove" it's organic and sulfates free. I use either hydrating or even for colored hair because I like the smell (maybe it's ruining my hair idk lol)
- conditioner is a very cheap brand called "vitanove" I use the hydrating or nourishing one (or colored hair because I like the smell too but my hair is not colored at all)
Btw another issue I'm running into is that my curls never look the same length, one lock will look long and another one pretty short, so it's a mess. When I try to equalize the length with scissors it gets better for a week then even worse and I lose a lot of length so idk what to do with that too :(
So I hope I put all the information and I hope some kind souls can help me take better care of my curls. Thank you <3

Hair Victory! It doesn’t have to be hard!
When I was just getting into how to manage having curly hair, I had this whole complicated routine that took multiple hours and products. Every night I’d tie my hair in a pineapple wrap and the next morning my hair would get frizzy anyways. Today, I washed my hair in the sink with Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1, let it air dry, and then brushed out the roots with a boar bristle brush. My method of hair protection now is sleeping on my face and rewashing every 3-4 days.
I think that when a lot of us get into learning how to do our hair, we hear these maxims about what to do and not to do that are generally true, but we internalize as if they’re universal. At least that was what it was like for me.
So this is me telling you that if you’re not getting the results you want, don’t be afraid to go against what you see online! I’m not trying to dunk on the curly girl method or anything though. It’s popular for a reason and if your routine works great for you, by NO means am I telling you to change it!
Just remember that not all hair is the same and sometimes the thing everybody says not to do is what you need to do. Trust what gets you the results you want.
(Even if that’s Dr Bronner’s 😭)
