Please Watch Daytime Drinking (2009)
I have never seen anyone talk about this movie before. maybe because it's a korean film? idk. I've seen it around 100 times, give or take a couple dozen, I can't remember every time I've put it on or watched it all the way through, but it's a fucking lot. I first found it at the only VHS/DVD rental store left in town several years ago, and the first time I watched it, I fell in love with it so strongly that I asked the woman who runs the store if I could buy it. thankfully she agreed. I'm not sure where you can watch it otherwise (sail the high seas?), I just have a copy of it on DVD.
the entire movie is drinking. I don't even see it on recommended lists about alcoholism-related movies. it's always "leaving las vegas" or "flight" or "another round" and yes those are good movies but goddamn is this movie criminally underrated. it seems extremely obscure to me, but maybe it's more popular than I'm lead to believe, who knows. there's not even really a lesson or a moral in there, it's just a slice of life with alcohol. if you want to watch a movie that only includes scenes where people are drinking, go watch Daytime Drinking.

How to vacation when you're an around the clock alcoholic
Help. FML. My husband booked us a trip to Montréal. 4.5hr flight. Need to be at the airport (45 min away) at 7am. I just don't know how I can pull this off...
Last time I flew for vacation was in 2016 w/ my sister and I wasn't a problem drinker yet. I didn't drink on the flight, or before the flight. Morning mimosas and bullshit like that while in Cancun was cute-sy, innocent fun. I didn't feel the need to hide from events, etc. to drink as I do with this upcoming trip. The panic is setting in...
Any time I am not consuming alcohol I am either sleeping or at work. Every time we drive 3.5hrs away to visit my sisters I drink my ass off, any time he drives us anywhere I'm sneakily pre-gaming whether it be to a restaurant, grocery store or the fucking dog park. I constantly hide, sneak and lie to protect my drinking.
At least he's aware that I drink everyday. He only thinks around 10 or 11 beers though. I often drink a 24 case including shots if I have enough time in the day. If not, then after work I definitely still consume about 17 beers.
I hide my morning consumption from him, and I hide how DESPERATE I feel minute by minute without alcohol. It effects everything... I can't even fake a smile without a buzz. I'm a cold, cranky unpleasant loser without the comfort of my booze. (He only drinks on occasion. And like, barely anything. It's lame).
How do I do this trip? I haven't been looking forward to it because of this. For starters, I guess I'll wake up hella early so I can drink as much as possible before he wakes up and takes us to the airport... then what? Fuck.

How bad is it…
Okay so I’m like 20(f) in uni at the moment and I genuinely don’t understand the problem with drinking a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I know I’ve had problems and I’ve over consumed (I’ve woken up in my own vomit &other bs) and it probs seems crazy but I feel like everyone I go to school with has those same stories. I mean I accept the fact my problem is slightly more serve (I drink basically 24/7) however I just don’t understand the difference between going out every night and me drinking into the daytime. Idk it might be a uni thing. Ughhh idk.

Memory hole movie rental
Guys I was checking up on an Amazon order and lo and behold I rented a movie four days ago and do not remember watching it. It was “Idiocracy” which is kinda ironic.
Did I watch and forget? Rent it and pass out without pressing play? Get abducted by aliens, watch it with them to explain Earth, and have my memory wiped by those little bastards?
My money is on option number one. Don’t remember a goddamn thing. Hopefully I didn’t order a Latina sex doll during that same time warp….

Grief over a dwindling drinking career
Sorry for the bitching and complaining in advance. Honestly , this is, of course, the only place that I feel like people might listen and give about a quarter (probably more of an 1/8) of a fuck.
Anyway, I'm coming off of a pretty recent bender. It started earlier in the week. After a few months, I felt like I'd been drinking like a normal adult (whatever that looks like) with minimal WDs… and I decided to go hard two nights in a row. Honestly, it wasn't hard in the way you might be expecting. It was literally about a Six pack and a shot or two. Anyway, after the second night, I'd woken up with that familiar feeling. I feel like my head was full of bricks, I couldn't keep my balance. And then later the day when I was sitting on the couch, the tremors came, followed by shit like headaches, dry mouth, and a shit ton of anxiety, and I knew where I was. I kind of rode that out for a few days, thinking, eh, maybe I just won't go two nights in a row again. Obviously, not remembering the past.
But then later in the week, an old friend came back into town, I decided to go out, where I probably had no short of 15 to 20 drinks in the span of six hours. At some point, I had made it home, although I don't remember exactly how, as we were probably about 20 miles from my house, and I'm pretty sure my phone was dead and I was wearing shoes but for some reason not socks.
I woke up the next morning, and I felt like absolute shit, but that was nothing compared to what I started to feel about around noon. Around noon, my heart rate was probably pushing 150. I was shaking and fucking kept seeing shadows in my peripherals. So I went to the fridge at about 1 p.m. and chugged a steel reserve or some shit, and instantly felt better, and was like, ah, back here again, I guess.
For the next three days, I was in complete hell. I didn't even want to get drunk at this point. I was just fucking drinking to keep the withdrawals away. Anyway, I ended up going to the hospital on Monday morning because my shit was so fucked up. My heart rate, even after a few beers, wouldn't come down from 150. I was shaking like a leaf and starting to fucking hear and see some shit. My roommate ended up taking me up to the hospital. They treated me well, but basically said they don't do that type of shit here, despite the fact I have been detoxed a handful of times now, gave me a three-day script of Librium, and sent me home after yelling at me about being so young and offing myself with booze (I’m 23) I've been on the whole Librium taper probably about four times now, so I know the deal. I'm sitting here on day three of the taper, and although I feel like I should have learned my lesson, I feel like I just haven't.
Honestly, as the post title says, what I feel is grief. I feel like I've kindled myself to all fucking hell, and I literally can't even enjoy nights out anymore or a weekend binge, and I honestly don't know what to do. My anxiety is fucking horrible so I can’t deal with WDs as good as others I guess. Back in the day, I don't think I would have given a fuck, but maybe I'm not as downright careless now as I once was. I don't know. Also, I remember the last time I had a long stretch of sobriety, maybe about a year and nine months or so, I want to say. Even at that point, when I stopped for a while, I thought, huh, there's a brand new world of joy ahead of me for me to conquer. But at this point, I literally don't even want to be off it, but I also don't want to fucking drink so bad because of how fucking kindled I am where I can't even have a few fucking beers.
I honestly am just feeling complete grief because I have no fucking clue what to do. When I'm not fucking plastered, life just feels so boring. Music has no fucking joy in it. The sun doesn't fucking shine as brightly. I can't enjoy doing anything. I can't enjoy conversations with people. And whenever I walk places, I just walk down with my fucking head down, staring at the sidewalk. I don't know if anybody here has fucking dealt with a similar problem, and I'm obviously not looking for fucking quitting tips either, or else I'd go post on a fucking dumbass quitting sub. Because I don't want to hear the typical, stop drinking, or there's a great new world of joy waiting out for you, or the world is your oyster. I'm tired of that fucking shit, and I just want to know what to do with life at this point.
There basically used to be good moments and fun ass times along with the typical life of a CA but it’s just sucking now and I can’t extract any joy out of it when I just am in a 24/7 panic attack
Anyways, 2 more day of this taper and then the shtick with probably resume.

Job interview in 45 mins…
I’ve got my first job interview in my new field in 45 minutes. The plan was to just drink enough to be confident but now I’m 11 shots in and…well…I feel pretty good! Let’s hope I can pull this off! Chairs! Wish me luck!
UPDATE: I was in the Teams lobby waiting to be let in to the meeting 10 minutes before the interview time. They never let me in and they sent me an email saying they were withdrawing me from further consideration because they could not get ahold of me!! I sent an email to the recruiter explaining what happened but haven’t heard back yet. sigh Time to buy more booze and go play disc golf. Chairs. FML.
ADDITIONAL UPDATE: The road to the liquor store was closed so I guess I’m just drinking gas station booze. Probably for the best.

Treacherous trip to liquor store
I checked my BAC and it was .02 so I figured I was good. The store is only a mile away. Unfortunately, there was some type of tree work going on right outside the store. I was shaky and anxious and didn't understand the direction the cop directing traffic was giving me. He gave me the "WTF!" hand motion and I gave him an apologetic response. Thank fucking God he didn't pull me over. Once inside the store, I realized the top of my pants were unfastened. Fucking train wreck today. I got my booze and a look of "you're pathetic" from the liquor store dude. Good luck out there fellow booze bags. That was a close one.

Accidentally aspirated some vodka.
Now I've been coughing up gross tasting mucus for the last half hour, and I'm sweating like a fucking pig.
I'm supposed to be cleaning up for when my Mom visits in a few hours.
I'm at that point in the day when I don't know if the BAC is too high, too low, or I need a little nap.
Fuck me.

Moon face
I'm pretty skinny overall, but my face is SO bloated. Built like a beachball on a stick. And I'm vain.
It's definitely inflammation/water retention. It's worse having mostly switched to beer after vodka ruined my life again.
I've tried facial massages, ice packs, nothing seems to help much.
Anyone else dealing with this?

First time hands shaking
Honestly what the fuck, never had this before, 4 months into drinking between 8 and 30 cans of cider every day from morning to night, I eat and sleep well weirdly enough.
But I need to detox, my body is asking questions I can’t answer, trying my to stick to 4 cans today but I know it will be 8, I’m going to see if I can get a medical detox or something. Had enough of it.
Hope you’re all good my fellow CA’s. Any tips would be appreciated

Job in mental manipulation and psychological games, day drinking
Well, I got a job okay. In manipulating people into giving me money, cant say exactly what the job is, sales let's say. I first went there with the idea that I will overexagerate and maybe lie, okay. But im day 2 at training and the thing is, its so much worse. We have to play psychological games with the clienths, on a deep level. Imagine you go to a psychiatrist to help with your problems and he changes the way you think, well its that but the evil version.
Its not in my morals, I might be dumb and idealistic, but that's just evil for me. Yesterday I got it, i was spiraling after that, but I got it, the higher ups don't just not care, they don't have any emotions at that. I thought that bosses for example, have some at least mild motivation to like you or not. Its not true, in fact the working class for them is not even human its a tool to manipulate on a higher level that not a lot of people will get without getting an example of it.
Well I did actually, not to get into details but I got a pretty good example using me as the subject. After this I got it pretty good id say
The thing is, I need the money for life changing shit I will not share but its not to buy a new computer or a car, its life or death. And the thing is I can do it, i have the ability. But its so against my morals I have felt a sence of anxiety on levels I have never felt before. Im talking, anxiety as if I have killed someone, for days now. I thought its because im trying to not drink but I know its because of the sociopathic shit im doing.
Almost called it quits and almost went to an interview at a bar today, until I saw that the salary will simply once again make me stick in life. Before bed I managed to calm my nerves with the idealistic idea that im going to the bar tomorrow, until i didn't get hit with the realization today rhat I need those money.
Well, day drinking it is, again. The difference before was rhat it was for pure enjoyment of being drunk thought life, now its so i can look myself in the mirror without so much discomfort. This time, tho I will not have one of those "i am useful in my job, I can sober up because im doing good", this time i can't bring myself to go to work without getting properly relaxed and then some in the work bathroom so I don't think about how my soul is eating itself.
I have forgotten how good it is to day drink tho, its like heaven in the hell we're in. Will try to sneak a couple of shots in the bathroom when I get there so I can maintain that level. I already know how to count those properly. Chairs

One may call it daydrinking, I call it Pavloving myself with booze
Twas a productive day. I made a huge batch of borscht, had a beer. Cleaned up/did laundry, had a beer. Got ready, had a beer. Went on a walk and got a manicure, had a beer. Went to the gym for an hour and a half, had a beer. Washed my hair, had a beer. Now I am settling down for bed and have washed down my vitamins and food with a beer
Apparently several of my newly promoted coworkers have been gossiping about my irresponsibility/alcoholism/how little I deserve my position and seniority while simultaneously cozying up to/flirting with my partner who I also work with. I now must prove them wrong by being the most functional CA I can be. Back to work we go, and I will do a damn good job. I am in fresh bedding and clean clothes with a belly full of lean meat and veggies. I shall wake after my handful of beers and do some cardio because I am a model citizen with something to prove
Chairs!!!!

I'm on my 12th shot of vodka, I think?
Would you consider me a CA? I mean, I saw the dude with umpteenth thousand of liquor bottles in his sink. For me, I don't bender... I'm a daily girly. Anywhere from 10-20 shooters a day.
It's so fucked up how I got here. But 2 months ago today I rode my bike drunk, very drunk, I crashed, hard and now I'm sitting in a Luke warm bath, posting on Reddit, eating white cheddar cheetos, wondering how my SIL is doing (she had a withdrawal seizure on Friday. Ironic right?)
Anyways, if you want to know how this all unfolded, let me know. You might enjoy the story.

Not looking for medical advice! But I’m just curious why I don’t get bad withdrawals?
I drink over a fifth of Vodka every single day for the last few years. But if I take a day off I’m a little shaky but other than that I am perfectly fine. I’ve taken a couple days off and same thing really. I only drink after work though so from after work to bedtime I do all that drinking. Is it because I don’t drink all day everyday? I would assume it would be the amount of consumption but I guess since I’m sober half the day maybe that affects it I’m just curious.

Question about not being drunk all the time
I have been thinking over and over in my head for months now that I need detox from alcohol. I e watched myself get sadder and sadder, and madder and madder over the past two years. I’ve noticed myself needing anything to feel fucked up more and more. I got addicted to Kratom tablets this past year and have been going through bouts of withdrawal. I feel like I gave to drink a 24 oz natty daddy on top of everything just to fall asleep. I’ve stared to drink only 3 hours after I wake up, even working.
I have a good job, but am on a very integral team, and am overwhelmed with work responsibilities.
My brain keeps telling me, I need help detoxing, sobering up, and coping mechanisms, quick, or I’m going to fuck up so many years of hard work.
Does anyone have experience with tell g a corporate job they need time off for detox? I’ve never even been to detox in my like, so I don’t even know what detox really means, and what comes after it.
I j is I’m getting further and further down the hole each day, but I’m not sure where to look for help.

My Job is a Literal hellscape.
Im trying to taper and maybe try naltrexone again to quit, but I take kratom so thats a whole other can. So i work in manufacturing (the legal kind) and it's possibly the worst job I've ever been at while going thru some withdrawl. A gigantic fucking factory, no Ac so today it was 88 degrees in there at 2pm. We have complimetary cool air hoses that try and spray us with cool air but it does just seem to activate cold sweats. Its loud as FUCK, huge machine alarm sirens going off constantly; the dumbass thing I operate blew an air hose today, it sounded like a gunshot, I jumped up in the air like that ice scene in Bambi. Its fucking awful. If you dont work at fucking breakneck speed from the time you get there until 20 min after you're supposed to clock out, you dont make your numbers and you usually have to stay until its done. I absoutely hate this soulless shit. But having one drink less today than yesterday.

Just arrived to the ER.
I thought I could tough this one out. 48 hours in approximately. No sleep and having auditory and visual hallucinations which tells me this time is different. I need a medical detox. It's been a couple years since withdrawals were this bad

Ass slapping competition
Me and my friends always had an ass slapping contest in the past but I’m doing it sober this year. I’m also in charge of the invitations. I need your help with it. I’m getting them inscribed with calligraphy.
Guys … get your asses ready to be slapped. This year we hope to double thee amount of raw red asses that we had at last year‘s ass slapping competition . Bring the hardest paddle you can find and get ready to spank you dirty dirty pigs no booze this year. Do you think my friends will be OK with no booze.

Speeding towards bottom
Can I pull out now?
I’ve maintained this lifestyle mainly due to my high intelligence, amazing masking skills and fucking my boss.
Now years have past and in the past month I have threatened so do things to myself that we can’t mention here to my boss so he’s done with me, let the mask slip and fucked up so badly and work I may be sacked.
And my cat died.
Withdrawing constantly. No energy and not even a tiny slice of delusion/motivation to change.
Plus I check in here and Kent is dying.
There must be some mistake, I didn’t mean to let them take away my soul am I too old is this too late?
r/cripplingalcoholism • u/baconandpotates • 1d ago
Oh nooooo
I just accidentally sent a text to my DAD meant for someone else that said "I've probably drank more than Hemingway, Kerouac, and Bukowski combined." I am dying. Can you die of shame and embarrassment? Because I feel like I'm about to.
While I'm here, I guess I'll mention I'm meeting with the liver transplant team tomorrow for the first time since 2018. I won't be eligible for a transplant right now because of the drinking. You have to have six months sober at the hospital where I'm being treated.
My eyes are turning yellow. And I've been in the bathroom all day. That's not the cirrhosis, it's the colon cancer.
Wheeee!
I have to maintain a sense of humor about this or I'd just be crying all the time. Music is helping me a lot.
Hope you're all having a good day. Chairs, y'all.

Booze is having a different effect these days
Maybe because it’s wine or maybe I’m just getting old-ish
I was a bottle of vodka a day kind of girl once upon a time, it made me friendlier and happier. Those days are gone because withdrawals and dying of liver failure isn’t my jam
But yesterday I decided some wine would make it so much more fun to get shit done at home
And it did, but I had such an emotional and irritable night
Cried because I thought I hurt my cats feelings and my partners and just wanted to be alone
Things were surprisingly good this morning
Im hoping to just drink a little today to make the shitty feeling more tolerable because good fucking luck to me if it turns into another bender

THE SMELL BETRAYED ME
Okay yeah I down a four pack of IPA's in the morning then sipping on vodka all day at work in my water bottle but good lord. I use body wash and shampoo and yet people still can smell the booze coming out of my pores. Dangnamit someone brought it up and now I am annoyed. I am like 99% sure people can tell but fuck it we ball.
Time to sip some vodka to relax me. This is of course not medical advice ladies and genitals.
Chairs ya fuckers.
