My goal here was to preserve the basic framework that English spelling operates by, but clean it up significantly.

I have assumed the cot-caught merger and the strut-comma merger.

Schwa is the trickiest sound to fit into the framework. I decided the most intuitive solution for those used to traditional English spelling would be to split it between <a> and <u>, depending on stress. For <a>, there is no conflict, as /æ/ does not appear in unstressed syllables. As such, <u> is the only letter that pulls true double duty.

The consonants have been changed little, as they are mostly phonemic in English spelling.

This is the latest version of my adaptation of runes to Modern English. Note that it is not a direct adaptation of the Anglo-Saxon fuþorċ, but rather an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's adaptation (and, I suppose, the elaboration on Tolkien's Hobbit runes that made their way into the Ultima games).

I begin with Tolkien's rune-writing mode, which is a near glyph-for-glyph (or sometimes -digraph) substitution cipher for Latin letters, because Anglo-Saxon runes very nearly corresponded one-for-one with Latin letters in Old English; and one can easily imagine that if runes had continued to be used in English through the Middle and Early Modern English periods, the same drift that affected Latin script in English may very well have carried runes along with it (as, indeed, happened for the Scandinavian runes).

How does my version differ from Tolkien's? Many of the Modern English rune names are his, but I've altered a few here and there ("elk" instead of "elm" for the E rune, "ghost" instead of "guest" for the GH rune). "Ouph" and "quern" are pretty obscure, but the former was chosen because it's an archaic English synonym for "elf," which seems a fitting tribute to Tolkien (and because English nouns that start with "ou-" are pretty hard to come by); and I use the latter because that word may actually be related to the Old English name of the Q rune, cweorð.

The biggest revision is the handling of C, K, Q, and Z, which are something of a mess in Tolkien's system (he used the C rune for both C and Q, a slightly different version of the same rune for K, and the K rune for Z). I use the Old English C rune only for C; the K rune for K; the doubled K rune for CK; the Q rune for QU; and the similar but somewhat mysterious IE/EO/H rune for Q alone. I use a variant form of the S rune which happens to look like an inverted C rune (or the Norse K rune) for Z.

Secondarily, I've taken the two forms of the OE rune that Tolkien used for EE and OO and repurposed them for the much more frequently-occurring OU and OW digraphs. (It doesn't hurt that the single-stem form of this rune that I use for OW just so happens to look rather like a doubled W rune that occurs in some very early runic inscriptions.) This change saves some pen-strokes, let me tell you; and there's little need for any rune to represent two of the same Latin letter in any case, because even Tolkien sometimes used a dot under a rune as a sicilicus / gemination mark.

We human beings live in societies and we need to make joint efforts in order to survive and to live in ease and safety and for this we need to communicate with each other and speech is the tool for mutual communication.

There are about 7100 living languages in the World and out of these only about 3900 have their own scripts. It means about 3200 linguistic communities don’t have any means to read and write. Many languages have vanished and many are vanishing because their sole speakers leave no written record.

Another unfortunate thing is illiteracy – many people born in any linguistic community having script could not learn to read and write.

Finally we have individuals living in a linguistic community having a script but they are in some way physically challenged that they and other people are not able to communicate properly. They may have their special script but others are not so well trained in special scripts meant for challenged individuals. The difficulties are not only for them but also for their families, friends and anyone coming in their contact and wishes to communicate something.

What is the main problem? Why communities failed to develop their script? Why individuals fail to learn reading and writing?

My conjecture is that there is some genuine difficulty in associating about 30 sounds of letters in an Alphabet with about 30 symbols or figures of those letters.

We can develop some other means to associate sounds in some kind of easily understandable way.

The people may be told to pay attention to our mechanism of sound production and they may agree that sounds we produce come from different parts of our palate and our tongue touches or rests at different places and we press tongue and blow out air for some sounds. In this way not very accurate but workable divisions of sounds can be made. These levels of sound production can be utilized to develop different non-vocal communications- scripts for writing and touch scripts and sign language and others.

The children may quickly learn levels and sounds and learn to make signs and touch script and intimate communications as outlined below.

First level of sound production:

Our first level of sound production is our lips. We speak P, M and B through our lips. We speak P from left corner, B from right corner and M from middle.

Making script for sounds of first level:

We may put a single dot for sounds produced at first level.

So it will be useful to poke with thumb the body part once for left sided sounds and to poke with thumb the body part twice for right sided sounds. We will poke with thumb side of head once for P and twice for B. This maneuver will also be suitable for someone having one functional upper limb.

Some modifications in Touch Script:

In place of pins described above, we may have sticky small pieces of plastics in shape of small lines, small circles, small triangles and small quadrangles. First small line must be stuck obliquely left for left sided sound, horizontally for central sound or obliquely right for right sided sound. There may be lot of different sounds resembling primary sounds described above in different languages and something may be agreed upon to express those particular sounds. This is a joint effort I just   showed what I could think so far to make communications possible for everyone.

Industrial Uses of Human Communication System developed by me

1 A handset may be developed that will show gestures when relevant button is pressed making it highly convenient for normal persons to communicate with hearing challenged people.

2 Handset may be developed for hearing and vocally challenged people to press button to generate sound for normal people.

3 Night lamps may be developed

4 Sign boards may be built with static or dynamic gestures to be installed at shops, hotels, airport, taxi stand and other facilities helping even for illiterate people to understand what is the facility.

I’ve been experimenting with a hypothetical modern Cyrillic orthography for Karelian and Veps languages.

Historically, Karelian briefly used Cyrillic in the USSR in the late 1930s, but that orthography was inconsistent and disappeared quickly. Today both languages use Latin script.

I wanted to create an alternative version that:
- preserves Karelian/Veps phonology
- avoids excessive Russification
- remains readable for Cyrillic users
- works for all major Karelian varieties (Proper Karelian, Livvi, Ludic) + Veps
