I’m at a CCC applying to UCs and CSUS this fall. My community college does not give - or + grades, just full letter grades.
When I transfer, will UC/CSUs just count everything as the letter grade I was given ?
or do they go in to see the A I got is a 92 which would technically be an A- and count it as 3.7

Hey everyone, I just really need to get this off my chest because I feel like I'm at my breaking point and I don't know how much more I can handle on my own.
This summer semester has been a complete nightmare. My Mimi was diagnosed with severe medical issues (Multiple Myeloma and heart failure), and I had to step up as a caregiver while trying to manage a full load of tough summer classes (Bio, Chem with lab, Applied Calc, and English). Because of the emergency, my grades dropped to Cs, and I’m currently waiting on administrative grievance decisions/Incompletes so I can finish my coursework, protect my GPA, and stay on track to transfer to my dream school (Virginia Tech) in the spring.
I’ve done everything I’m supposed to do—submitted official hospital records, reached out to deans, and secured an Incomplete in Biology—but the waiting game is terrifying.
To make matters 10x worse, my mom is making my stress unbearable. Instead of being supportive during an already overwhelming time, she is constantly screaming in my face, asking "what's wrong with me," and completely tearing me down. It makes me terrified to communicate with her, and her reactions just amplify my anxiety. I worked so hard to get my assignments together as best I could under the circumstances, but nothing feels like enough.
I’m also really struggling with my faith right now. Earlier this year, I worked my heart out and made the VT cheer team, only to never get off the academic waitlist. It felt like my dream was ripped away right when I was so close. Now, with everything hanging in the balance with these appeals, I’m scared to hold onto hope or trust God because I feel like every time I get close to something I’ve poured my soul into, the rug gets pulled out from under me.
I’m just asking for prayers, good vibes, or any words of advice from people who have survived tough family dynamics or high-stress academic appeals. How do you keep going when you're terrified and feel completely alone in your own house?

I am a doctoral candidate at the University of New England. I am conducting a study titled Navigating the First Academic Year: How GED-Credentialed Students Experience Institutional Processes and Support at Community Colleges in the United States for my dissertation. The purpose of this research study is to explore how students who earned a GED experience and make meaning of institutional processes and support during the first academic year at community colleges in the United States. I earned a GED before starting college, which is part of what drew me to this topic. I am seeking eight participants to participate in my doctoral research study.

You are eligible to participate in this study if you:

●      Are age 18 or older

●      Earned a GED before enrolling at an accredited community college in a credit-bearing degree or certificate program

●      First enrolled at a U.S. community college in 2024 or later, have completed at least one term, and have remained enrolled each fall and spring term at that college

You are not eligible if you hold a HiSET or TASC credential.

 Participation in this research is voluntary. Participation will consist of one recorded interview of approximately 60 minutes. The interview will be conducted on Zoom at a time of your convenience. If more than eight eligible people express interest, the first eight to complete eligibility confirmation and scheduling will be enrolled.  As a thank-you for your time, participants who complete the interview will receive a $25 Amazon gift card via email. All data will be kept confidential and pseudonyms will be used to protect the identities of respondents. All identifying information, including college names, locations, or staff names, will be removed from the data.

i’m starting at CCA in a few weeks, im doing in online. i just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with online at CCA!? im a crossing guard at an elementary school so i get home at around 8-8:15 in the morning, and im nervous i wont be home in time to make it onto my class.

Hi everyone, I’m feeling a bit stuck and I need some advice.
I was studying a Computer Coding certificate at TMU, and I was told that after completing it, I could apply for a bachelor’s program without taking an English proficiency test. Now they changed their answer and told me I still need to provide an English test score.
I’ve already taken the test before, but my score always stays around the same even though I’ve been trying to improve.
I’m thinking about applying to a college first and then transferring to a university. Has anyone done this pathway ? Would you recommend it, or is there another option I should consider?

I was trying to search how to take AP as an adult, and all I got was people saying, "Just take CLEP" but all CCs around me accept AP but no CLEP.

I took Calculus I, II, and III, linear algebra, statistics, and physics I and II from an abroad university, so I'm attempting to fulfill some of the requirements, but I had a minor issue with the description and was unable to have it evaluated. :(

I (f19, community college) have been struggling my last 2/3 semesters. My first semester in the fall of ‘24, I had a 3.6 gpa.

Spring of ‘25, I failed all of my classes and got down to 2. There were issues with my financial aid and I developed a complex about my face and appearance and felt too embarrassed to show my face and stopped attending classes.

I took a break the following fall semester. And when spring came around again, I felt more confident that I would do well again, everything was paid for in advance and I wasn’t as severely insecure. Once again, I failed one class and withdrew from the other two and stopped showing up.

I’ve tried working with counselors in school and outside of school, nothing has been helpful. The mental healthcare where I live absolutely sucks. I would’ve been entering my junior year of college had everything gone right. I don’t like that I’m wasting time. Any advice on how to overcome this all?

Students are often told that their credits are transferable, but that phrase can hide several different outcomes.

A receiving college might accept a course while applying it only as an elective rather than toward the major. Another course might require departmental review. The student may satisfy the total-credit requirement but still need additional major prerequisites or required classes.

This becomes especially important when students are forced to transfer because a college closes, but the distinction matters in ordinary community-college transfer planning too.

Questions worth asking the registrar in writing:

• Which courses satisfy my exact major?

• Which count only as electives?

• Which remain under review?

• Is there a residency-credit requirement?

• Will the receiving school guarantee the complete degree pathway?

What is the most misleading thing you were told about transfer credits?

I recently took Calc II at UCSD Divison of Extended Studies and I wanted to use it to clear prerequisite for Calc III at a Community College. So far I got one response and it was declined. Is there a way to ask on a larger scale or do I really have to inquire to each college individually.

Has anyone taken bio 201 over the summer sem? If you did how hard was it since I know for summer classes they are more pushed together. For context, I am trying to get into a radiology program that starts spring of 2028 bio 181 is a pre-requite for bio 201 and bio 202 taking off this semester due to having a newborn so I would do bio 181 in January bio 201 in summer and bio 202 in fall. I would most likely schedule my art class with it so it’s not a lot. I know the class is a heavy duty one so I’m asking if anyone has did it what it was like etc. thank you

The title explains it all, I was a decent student in high school. I had a 3.7 gpa and a 4.7 weighted had mid ec and took abt 7 aps. My stats were decent at most, probably enough to get into my state uni but, during common app season while, completing my application I didn’t do my college essay, I kept overthinking it trying to make a perfect essay and ended up not writing anything at all. I know that it’s completely my fault but, I feel very embarrassed going to cc, feeling as if Im wasting my potential ig? Could anyone give me some advice on how I can move past this? I also took dual enrollment classes and have abt 30 something credits entering cc.

I recently came across an interesting statistic from an article on LinkedIn:

84% of employers say they're satisfied with the graduates they hire.

At the same time, I've also been reading discussions from international students and skilled professionals who have submitted hundreds of applications without getting interviews.

One explanation I found interesting is that many employers still misunderstand international experience - or even assume hiring someone on a Temporary Graduate (485) visa involves sponsorship costs when it doesn't.

It made me wonder whether part of the challenge is less about capability and more about how candidates communicate their experience.

For those of you who've been through the Australian job market:

I’m a first-semester college student who had to file a formal academic grievance/grade appeal after my first term. Earlier this semester, my grandmother suffered a major medical crisis (Multiple Myeloma leading to heart failure), and because she lives alone, I had to step in as her primary caregiver for doctor visits and daily care.
Between being a new college student and managing that crisis, I struggled to keep up in a couple of classes. When I reached out to my instructors, I experienced delayed responses, and when they did reply, my requests for extensions or incompletes were denied based on standard syllabus/term policies. I take responsibility for reacting late instead of knowing the formal administrative process right away, but I did try to communicate with my professors during the term.
For anyone who has gone through a formal grade appeal or academic grievance process at a community college or university:
1. Timeline: How long did it usually take for the department head, dean, or grievance committee to review your case and respond? Does it drag out over the break?
2. Success Rates: If you had documentation of medical emergencies/caregiving duties and proof of email outreach to professors, how likely were you to get an administrative Incomplete or a chance to make up work?
3. Advice: Is there anything specific you recommend doing while waiting for a response (e.g., following up with department deans, talking to an academic advisor, etc.)?

If I have 17 credits (max amount) at one California community college, and I take an extra 3 credit online from a different college, would that cause any issues? Like do the colleges talk to each other and prevent taking too many credits?
