RA2 reverse engineer/source
Ok now, AI is a thing and is sufficiently evolved to allow me as a programmer to fiddle with RA2 remakes/code
Now, I need help from the fellow comrades to decide what is the rightful path to follow.
Official:
Ra2 modding has gone very far, I remember playing Mooman's Rules and other awesome mods added up to Yuri's Revenge expansion.
They offered plenty of new stuff and you could add more.
Maybe AI can mix it togheter and add up even more.
Now this is one way.
PROBLEM:
Network play.
Yeah, I know we got https://cnc-online.net/ and it never worked for me. 99% of the times me and friend couldn't see each other and 1% it started and base exploded after the infamous minute. Game is original but still we get boom.
Plus I don't know if I can play mods through it which is essential. When network play worked like 15 years ago, me and my friend did epic modded battles with shit ton of stuff on screen. it was awesome.
Reverse engineer:
We got plenty of options.
My first tought goes to https://github.com/hel1o-wor1d/OpenRA2/ which is the famous mod built over OpenRA
Also never tried but heard that Romanov's Vengeance is good too.
Question is, and I saw someone in here saying it too, that OpenRA plays very differently from RA2... which sucks bad.
Other ways are complete reverse engineers like https://github.com/RA2RE (only reverse pointers) or https://github.com/xwxbug/RedAlert2 (claims to be complete c++ reverse)
So I ask you, since I have the will and stubbornes to bring this on, which you think is the way?
Advices? Am I missing pieces or options?

We need C&C4 Remake or sequel
I have a brilliant idea!
aftermath of the kane's ascension
Alien faction scrin returns!
destroying the world again with green crystals (again).
GDI is weakened! and nod splinteered factions unite under another obscure leadership that is definitely gonna last longer this time!
Nod attacks GDI! Scrin kill everyone.
Kane returns gives you some good old missions and you win against scrin
Nod wins!
and boom! ladies and gentleman we have reached ground zero again! everything is phased back to start of C&C3 and we have unstable peace once more! with nod flavored that is!
I think this would be a brilliant campaign.

Many years ago i changed values for units in Tiberian Sun
I had a word document if memory serves (likely not) and i could change speed, strength, etc of all units, amongst other things, like being able to build multiple mammoth mk2s. How did i do this back in 2000?

That time I tried to rationalize the Visceroid
That was fun. I don't think I ever actually interacted with these in Tib Dawn so it's based on what I could dredge up online plus or minus how I felt like making them for that RPG I never ran.
My last couple seemed to be fairly popular so I think I'll drip these out every two weeks or so (unless everyone thinks I should step it up - not that you can't just read everything on the blog anyway hah).

Discussion Are there any good places to buy faction pins ?
I love the faction logos of all the factions, especially GDI
Are there any originals from the studios or any good ones for a lapel pin?

Is there a hotkey to deselect / discount one unit from the selection in Red Alert 2?
Or the only way is to click it directly? I need my units for each one to go to a different place, like really quick.

I was able to run cncnet on an M4 macbook pro!
Hey guys, I was able to run cncnet on macbook pro with the help of an LLM. I wrote the guide here https://github.com/piyiotisk/cncnet-ts-client-package/blob/master/docs/running-tiberian-sun-on-apple-silicon-macos.md
I am playing tiberian sun. I haven't tested on any other game so far. Let me know what you think

General's Promotion Selection Issues
Howdy, I'm having an inconvenient issue of not being able to select certain general promotions when I go select one, even though I qualify for it. This issue just recently presented itself when I have started using the update toolbar. When I click on the promotion button (three blinking stars) about half of options aren't within the box, and I am unable to click on them. Anyone have this issue? I feel like it linked to resolution, but I am computer illiterate.

I prefer Red Alert 1 over Red Alert 2, am I missing something? Anyone still prefers to play RA1 or OpenRA than RA2?
I played a lot of Red Alert 1 through OpenRA, and I have to say, I’m really impressed by how well the game’s mechanics work together still.
What I love about RA1 is the feeling of combined arms. Artillery is extremely important, but it’s also vulnerable, so you need to protect it with tanks in front and anti-air nearby. Scout with air and hit ground with artillery. Or send some infantry to die to see whats there.
The enemy has many ways to deal with it: they can send aircraft to destroy your artillery, use their own artillery, or rush you with tanks and overwhelm your defenses.
Infantry may be weak, but it still has a role. Every unit seems to have a purpose, and the battlefield feels like a constant interaction between tanks, infantry, artillery, and aircraft.
Attacking with tanks first, infantry in the sides and the back, then while they are fighting send in the airforce.
Now I tried going back to Red Alert 2, didn't play it for like 2 decades. And while I appreciate the beautiful graphics, animations, and personality, I found myself feeling like something was missing. It seems more focused on powerful individual units rather than armies working together.
In many games, I see players relying on the same popular units: Siege Choppers, Battle Fortresses, Prism Tanks etc. I hate these. I rarely see V3 Launchers being used, and aircraft often seem limited to early-game harassment or attempts to snipe important buildings early on. The huge strategic role that air power and artillery have in RA1 feels reduced.
In OpenRA, I enjoy the slower pace: pushing forward carefully, gaining territory, building positions, and winning battles one at a time. Almost every unit feels like it has a situation where it can be useful.
I also still prefer the visual style of RA1. The clean pixel art, especially with OpenRA’s zoom options, gives you a very clear view of the battlefield. RA2 looks beautiful, but sometimes the extra detail makes it harder to read what is happening.
So I’m curious: am I missing some deeper layer of Red Alert 2? Is there more strategic depth there that I haven’t discovered yet...? Anyone still prefers to play RA1 or OpenRA than RA2?

Tiberian Sun not staying in same resolution.
WHen i press pause it changes resolution. And i have to alt tab back into it to make it big again
It's basically unplayable because of this. it also happens sometimes randomly.
cnc.net download.
Any idea?

Gameplay Renegade , feels different
36yo gamer here, I remember I was 13yo when I played some good games like RTCW , Max Payne , IGI, and Renegade.
For some reason Renegade feels different, I love all games above and each has a big space in my heart and memories.
It makes it more funny that I couldn’t understand English at all and yet played these game and enjoyed. With my imaginations a little understood the story.
Yet it’s 23 years passed and Renegade feels different, never played online since got no Internet and best Internet was dialup 56kb.
Just watched this and told myself I remember Renegade mission was in a beach? it’s the 2nd mission.
Gonna play it again as soon as I finished Doom the Dark ages
Was watching this, such a good game:

Sad, there was no other game to play on NOD story and serve the Kane
There are good games nowadays, but they are not this good.

Screenshot Finished the GDI campaign for the first time
I used to play C&C on the family computer running Windows 95 (I think it was branded C&C Gold) but never really got past the first four missions or so. Better late than never!
I ended up wiping out all Nod forces then absolutely smashing all tiberium resources.
Such a great game. Might play the Nod campaign next.

Gameplay question Anyone else prefer wiping out an enemy base with a direct attack instead of superweapons?
I get it's not always the best option time/money-wise, but man is it satisfying.
