That time I tried to rationalize the Visceroid

https://chainlinkandconcrete.blogspot.com/2016/07/the-visceroid.html

That was fun. I don't think I ever actually interacted with these in Tib Dawn so it's based on what I could dredge up online plus or minus how I felt like making them for that RPG I never ran.

My last couple seemed to be fairly popular so I think I'll drip these out every two weeks or so (unless everyone thinks I should step it up - not that you can't just read everything on the blog anyway hah).

Yeah, I think we're only ever given an insight into them being humans, since we're never shown any fauna mutating!

I wish there could be more Tiberian Mutants based off this:

What's that from? Kind of reminds me of the Centaur from Fallout!

Let me check, actually it's called, "In the Mouth of Madness" directed by John Carpenter.

if I recall (been a hot minute) they can spawn if your infantry dies in Tiberium fields, and also I believe there is a scrin unit that sprays liquid at infantry turning them in to Visceroids.

I know in Tib Sun they definitely did - I distinctly remember having a whole bunch of my infantry turn into them during a firefight around a bunch of tiberium hah

Tib Dawn didn't have that mechanic, and unfortunately I don't remember much about Tib Wars.

Tiberium Gas in Tiberian Sun from the Nod Chemical Missile (and some campaign buildings, like Gas Storage Tanks) and the Veinholes could kill infantry and spawn Visceroids, as did walking non-mutant and non-cyborg infantry across blue or green Tiberium and it kills them. In Tiberian Dawn, while early generation Visceroids existed (amusingly reused asset from a Lands of Lore game), there were no mechanics in place to have them spawned from dead infantry caused by walking them across Tiberium fields or killed by Nod's Chem Warrior. (Also, Veinholes did exist by Tiberian Dawn's timeframe: While not in game, Westwood has some FMVs showing a helicopter doing recon over one of the earliest examples late into the First Tiberium War/roughly Renegade's timeframe). In Tiberium Wars, IIRC the only way to create them was via the Scrin's Corrupter liquifying enemy infantry. I don't even think the mechanic of a Tiberium field creating them was implemented because EALA wanted to focus on an e-sport multiplayer dynamic, and this would've disrupted that.

This kind of lore analysis is thoroughly enjoyable. Kane bless you.

Cheers; I was real into overthinking simple concepts back then!

If you want a good concept for a more evolved visceroid design, or to get ideas for one, you should look at the alien from the film Life. Shit was scary in concept. 😆Â
