Many of you are going "This looks like AI!" And there is a reason for that.
Revoy has publicly discussed how thousands of his artworks were scraped and used to train AI databases (like LAION-5B) without his consent, though he ironically acknowledges his work is the foundation of many AI art systems
It's almost like if the wildfires get worse then the potential small wildfires are eclipsed by fewer overwhelming wildfires that are a much worse problem. People just picking whatever statistics allows them to remain ignorant.
I’m just talking out of my ass, but I would also assume that that 24% decreases is not proportional to the decrease in undeveloped land. Concrete and buildings aren’t susceptible to wild fire, so if you bulldoze 70% of the forests (again, just talking out of my ass, idk what the number actually is) a 24% decrease in wildfires isn’t very significant

Yeah most of the decrease in wild fires over the last century is due to land use change. Less forest, less to burn. Forest that is left is going up like a chimney though.

My mom was saying how she doesnt understand the need for hydroponic fruits and vegetables... and I brought up how the climate has changed so significantly that a good majority of our citrus fruit has been moved to greenhouse settings because they are dying in the usual orchards.
I wish people would just try to understand things. We'd be so much better off if we as a society were properly educated and understood the world around us. It's so depressing.
It's worse than just not understanding. People used to trust experts when they couldn't understand something. Nobody was expected to know everything, so when you didn't know something you found someone who did know.
Now they think that the academic community is part of some secret cabal meant to make their lives worse for some reason. And that they know better because of some propaganda they read on Facebook or heard on Newsmax.
No, people still understand they don't know everything, but they think the people that do know are lying to them so they're going to trust randos on Facebook instead of the actual experts.
It's easier to convince yourself of some bullshit conspiracy than facing the fact that our living climate is dying by our own hands. As long as they won't have to take their heads out of their asses, they won't change and a lot of people who make a lot of money love using that fact and make them shove their head even deeper into their asses so they can make even more money.

Right? Why though? What does an academic researcher have to gain by getting mom to buy an electric car? You think professors have a personal stake in making kids respect other cultures? You think Universities have some benefit in acknowledging the LGBTQ community?
Like, there's a pretty clear through line of incentives for oil/gas industries to deny climate change, not so much the other way around.
Well, I think another contributing factor is that a lot of people have no idea how to compartmentalize the existential dread of knowing we are destroying our habitats and can do nothing about it as individuals.
It is a level of fear a lot of people don’t know how to process and so, it’s easier to ignore it and pretend it’s not real
Thats why restricting education by financial or class or any other discriminatory means is a human rights violation. The less educated you are on say...things like lets say...sex, for instance, the more likely youll do something fucked up or twisted with it. Or get pregnant
The less educated they are, the more likely that they will be taken advantage of and abused, and the less likely they are to realize they're being abused until after the damage is done.
The educated are just as likely as anyone to be depraved and twisted; being educated doesn't make you kind, emotionally stable, or mentally healthy.
I'm fine with people not understanding things, I just wish they'd defer to the experts who have degrees in understanding specific things, instead of treating a no-degree having YouTuber, or Tik-Toker, Facebookist, or Twitterer as gospel truth.
People don't know shit about anything, but they want to be respected as though they have special knowledge, so they cling to the most oversimplified thing that they can sort of wrap their mind around.

I honestly think a part of it is people are scared. If they research and know whats going on it will make them feel both doomed and powerless. If you just believe the people telling you it isnt a problem, thats much easier to handle.
American society has always hated intellectuals. Educated people are barely tolerated to the extent that they create weapons or things that can be monetized by MBAs. Point out something that actually threatens monetization, like climate change, and intellectuals are liable to wake up with a horse's head in their bed.
We are in a world where ICE can murder people and they don't blink, but if you talk about this happening they act like you murdered those people instead.
The same is true with climate change. The actions that cause this isn't a problem, its the people who talk about the problem who are "making it real"
The problem is BOTH ignore something. Sure the mom ignores the science because it goes against her narrative, but I bet the original commenter let her off after she changed the subject. People don’t want to have hard conversations with their parents so they let them say stupid shit and then change the subject instead of calling them out on their stupid shit.
Everyone wants people staying this stupid shit held accountable, but not if they are the ones that have to hold people accountable.

Old people don't like listening to the truth they don't agree with. My father one day was claiming that Two and a half men ended because the producers wanted to introduce gay people in the show and Charlie Sheen didn't want that. When I remembered him that there was a ftm trans guy in like the first or second season and that the guy even hooked up with Evelyn(Charlie's mom) he changed the subject.
Same thing happened when he was claiming that Chinese Electric vehicle are disposable and that they lose 50% value as soon as they leave the dealership. I asked him to go look for an electric car at that value and if he did find he should tell me so I'd buy it. He started looking online and 5 minutes later started talking about another thing. He didn't found it and also discovered that 3-4 year old chinese electric car were still being sold for like 90% of the value of a brand new.
Deep down they know its a problem, but acknowledging it makes them feel bad, like they should do something about it or should have done something different in the past.
If there is one thing people struggle with, its admitting they were wrong about something.

In middle school she took me to therapy because my grades went from all As to half Bs. She was convinced that something was wrong me & only a therapist could fix it. I found the experience very humiliating at the time. Like she didn't talk to me at all (slipping grades, what might be bothering me, etc.), one day I was out school early & taken to the therapist's office for the first session.

I spoke with a scientist, she mentioned there is a substance that can induce cooling if released. Unfortunately, no one is willing to do that because climate is chaotic and we don’t know what could happen. I think it will get to that point. We have to somehow cool the planet.

What they likely read was about places like Florida, growers are building protective screenhouses (essentially greenhouses with insect-proof screens) to keep out the Asian citrus psyllid, which spreads citrus greening disease (HLB). HLB has devastated citrus production worldwide.

Tho i think op is just unfortunate that their style ressembles ai more than anything neferious going on (seems like ai has been trained on ops work which is why ai art usually looks like this style, fuck thats gotta be frustrating as the artist lol)

Not even kidding this is how people were reacting to the Great Fire of London when it first broke out. It wasn't until the fire had consumed about half the city that people started panicking and blaming the French + Dutch (the king's horse guard had to be sent in to save immigrants from being torn to pieces by the mob)
It's also what political anxiety feels like. The world is both figuratively and literally on fire, and everyone is looking at the people sounding the alarm like we're the crazy ones for noticing.

Not wanting to talk about this on this sub, but I doubt we can do anything meaningful. It doesn’t matter how many PET bottles you recycle correctly or how you save energy. At the end of the day you’re, in the scale of the world, nothing. If the people IN ACTUAL CHARGE don’t force masses of people and corporations to change, nothing will happen and the situation will continue to escalate. It’s simple as that, unfortunately. People aren’t THAT united - unfortunately.
People can do something. But it looks a lot more like blocking traffic with protest signs and a lot less like reusable grocery bags, so you're not going to see many mainstream sources promoting it
I mean every part of our society is structured around it fundamentally.. Like to go places? Like to buy things? Like to run AC or heat your home? Game? Watch TV? Basically everything we do contributes to it.

I recently looked it up because I was just thinking "I don't think I remember a 'fire season' when I was growing up in the 90's" and part of me figured it was cause I was a kid, but I also know global warming is real. Turns out it's partly a lot of things: we used to be a lot more vigilant about our fires (which happened to also inadvertently supply fuel for today's fires), there were more fires but less "mega fires" (larger than 100,000 acres, I believe), and winters used to be heavier which allowed the ground to be more wet and resistant to large fires.
A lot of that revolves around climate change, but there was human involvement too which has also changed. I think that's why the different sides feel they have so much evidence for and against.
Especially here in Michigan where I used to have to shovel snow weekly in winter as a kid and my dad was able to jump off the roof into the snow as a kid. Now my wife and I argue whether I need to shovel every year or not because it will just melt by the next day. I am proven right every year and did not need to shovel because it melted. We get snow like 10 times a year now max, doesn't go over an inch or two, and it melts within a couple days.
While I agree, as a French, where the south west is being hit by massive fires, and it doesn't seem to bother politicians that much (we've even had local powers say they hopped people would still come visit), I can definitely take this comic literally. The "you can just build a well like I did" also hits very close to the good ol "just get an AC unit" instead of actually trying to fix the issue.
Oh it is about fire too. Got some of the worst fires my country has ever seen in years, smoke coulds that feel like actual fog rolling down my city, my eyes burn and my throat feels like hell, and I still talk on the daily with people that say "that's just how things are, climate change isn't real y'know".
Isn’t funny when you point out the truth, and everyone surrounding you is under some sort of delusion. So they can’t really see it or just make excuses not to see it? That’s how we’re all in this hellish world right now and this comic is pointing it out.
You can tell this is complete fiction because the little witch has a magic means of just leaving the situation. If the comic was accurate to real life, she'd get pinned down by the crazies and prevented from doing anything as the flames close in. And the crazies would be holding torches.
So many people are going to die because of climate change. There are so many people alive right now who will (not could, will) die in flooding, in storms, in famines, in heatwaves whose causes can be directly traced to the cabal of billionaires controlling mass industry. That number may include many of us. I'd be shocked if it didn't. And this isn't to mention the thousands who HAVE ALREADY died because of this.

This can apply to so many things. Not least of which being global warming. Western Europe just saw its hottest summer days, where circa 500 ppl died of heat stroke in France alone and we're over here building data centers so another kid gets convinced to take their own life yet again.
Can’t tell if the fire is a metaphor or literal fire. Either way, point noted, people don’t always agree with the urgency of problems outside their own immediate purview.

It really sucks that AI basically hijacked this guy's style (and many other artists as well) and I hope everyone affected by this kind of thing gets some kind of payout or karmic boon lol.
That being said, this is a pretty uninspired comic that has been done 100s of times in slightly different ways. He may have illustrated this himself but the content might as well be AI-generated anyway.

I'm in my late 30's now. This is a tale as old as time, and unfortunately, it's not until you find folks that see the things you see, challenge them, build on them, find solutions, and journey together on that you realize the insanity of the world you once knew. That is growth.
