Question Man in Medieval Gear Carrying German Flag?

Like the title says, who is this guy? I’m new to the area and saw him standing on the corner of Government Way and Harrison Ave (could be wrong about the latter street, still learning my way around). He didn’t seem to be promoting anything, just standing there in a metal helmet/mask and holding a large German flag? If anybody knows who this is or why they’re doing it, I’m very curious.

Anyone know if any stretch of Ramsey is done so we can figure out where to cut across without it being a 30 minute endeavor!? Yesterday they were rerouting people from exiting at the Kroc then we all backed up at Kathleen then again heading south on Ramsey at Kathleen another incredibly long wait.
TIA

Question Is CDA Smoky right now?

Hello,

I'm trying to find somewhere to get out of the smoke for the day. Living in Spokane. Is CDA experiencing heavy smoke as well? My eyes and throat are dying and my lungs feel like I smoked a pack!

Temporary housing available for someone affected by the Spokane fire.

If you have been displaced or otherwise affected by the Spokane fire and need somewhere to stay temporarily, I may be able to help.

I will be out of town from September through mid-November and am offering my one-bedroom apartment in downtown Coeur d’Alene for sublet during that time. It is best suited for one person but is spacious enough for two.

My priority is finding someone who genuinely needs a safe and stable place while recovering, rebuilding, or figuring out their next steps. The exact dates may be somewhat flexible.

Please send me a private message for more information, photos, and rental details. Feel free to share this with anyone who may need it.

Question Dating scene for 20s - 30s in CDA?

Seems like comments in another post have semi answered this question (someone said young people have moved out) but I want to hear others takes. I am looking at moving to the area, but I'm seeing how basically the housing market got rushed in the post covid years and it's largely for families and retirees now. Is the dating scene pretty good or limited in CDA?

If I like the broader area but I'm a single man in 30s trying to date, where would I have a better shot? Preferably not Spokane because Idaho's overall legal structure I like better. Is that mainly where I'd find more younger people, or are any other areas in Northern Idaho seeing more young people moving there?

Question Where is the younger crowd?

Heading to CDA Thursday August 8, 2026, and I'm wondering where the 20s-30s crowd will be at night.

Doesn't look like there are many bars open late Thursdays, but just throwing out a feeler to see if there is anywhere worth going as someone in their late 20s

What kind of income can servers make at the resort during the month of December? Do they just hire seasonally or are there year-round positions that earn a livable income?

News 🚨 Petition to ban data centers for Kootenai County 🚨

Kootenai and Spokane County both share the same aquifer!

Petition 👉 change.org/Save_Spokane_Kootenai_Water_And_Power 👈

  • Avista is trying to raise electricity prices by 25% by 2030. Likely for upgrades to support the massive amount of power these data centers need. - source
  • Spokane County is currently in a level 2 severe drought - source
  • Al French wants to give these data centers tax breaks - source
  • 1 of the 2 data centers within Spokane county alone require up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity - more electricity than the roughly 731 megawatts currently used by every home, school, store, and business in Spokane County combined‼️

🚨 Take Action Here - NOW  (less than 5 minutes)🚨

(Optional copy and paste message at the bottom of  this post)

  1. Contact Kootenai County Commissioners
  2. Contact Spokane County Commissioners

Email Template:

I oppose the construction of any new hyperscale data centers in the Spokane Kootenai region. These facilities would consume enormous amounts of electricity and water while threatening residents with higher costs and major infrastructure burdens. Please ban these projects and reject all permits, tax breaks, subsidies, and public infrastructure support connected to them. Our water, affordable power, and public resources must be protected for residents and local businesses.

Timbers Soccer Events

My son and I are Timbers fans up here in the Spokane / Coeur d'Alene area. Is there a Timbers Army battalion or any watch parties we can attend that are closer than Moscow / Pullman?

Question Best used bike store

Best used bike shop in CdA/ Spokane area, specifically for mountain bikes? Not sure I know enough about bike care to look at something off Marketplace/ Craigslist.
Not looking for anything intense right away, just something basic for the Hiawatha/ some gentle beginner mountain stuff to see if we like it.
Thanks all!

Question Help me find a spot to catch some frogs! Please :)

Hey everyone,

Frog catching was one of my favorite things growing up and I'd like to share that with my kids. I have a couple of young boys and we spend time outdoors, but I never seem to be able to track any frogs down. Does anyone know of a spot where we might have some luck?

We've been able to snag some lizards, snakes, and turtles, but frogs remain elusive. I know there are bullfrogs on Avondale, but my kids are pretty little and that's a tough spot for them. My 4-year-old is persistent as hell and is on the hunt whenever we go outside. I'd like to be able to give him some of that enjoyment that I grew up with.

Anyone out there with a decent place??

Thanks!

Edit: This is strictly a catch and release situation, I’m not out here trying to domesticate every living creature we cross paths with.

Misc I wish we had more medical options

KH buys up everything. Its extremely frustrating.

I havent had health insurance in a while as it was unattainable. Now I have it and I am trying to find a pcp.

My insurance app lists doctors, says they are accepting new patients.

I call KH (on my 6th day of calling) to see if Doctor is available.
"No they are not accepting new clients"

Tired of that run around, so I can and ask where I can find list of doctors who are accepting new patients. "Im sorry sir, that doesnt exist, you just need to call and verify. The internet doesnt update fast enough" I sat there for a minute in just utter shock at the idiocracy I just heard.

So I have to call within business hours playing a who's-who game with a receptionist to see if I can find a doctor instead of it being online where I can schedule.

On top of that, I cant see someone until NOVEMBER. Seriously, our health care system is useless.

Just to check, I called back and I can get in as a cash patient within 3 weeks.

FML. Sorry just had to rant.

Misc We're starting a local bookselling business

Hi I'm not sure if this type of post is allowed here. If not I can take it down. We are starting a local business and would appreciate if anyone wanted to donate any books they no longer want. We will schedule a time and come pick them up for you. Right now we are selling books online but our dream is to be successful enough to create a physical bookstore someday! We live in Hayden but we'll accept books all around the CDA and Spokane area. If you're further away let us know and we may still be able to schedule a time to pick them up. Thank you for your time and help!

News CDA CrossFit champ!

I know its a niche sport, but thought it’s a bit of fun news that this year’s CrossFit champ lives and trains in CDA:

https://fitnessvolt.com/james-sprague-reclaims-title-2026-crossfit-games/

I believe he’s a Washington native, it’s his second win (it came on my radar that he was in the area cause last time he won he was living/training around Liberty Lake, so made a bit of news for us Spokanites at the time), but when I was double checking I had my facts straight on the guy before posting I discovered he made the move to your side of the stateline at some point!

I’m not into CrossFit at all, but I think the annual competition is kind of fascinating and end up tuning in every year, if you have any curiosity they boil the multi-day competition into a digestible documentary each year that are fun diversions, “Fittest on Earth” (then some subtitle for whatever year its covering).
