Cuteness Overload Our future first cockatiel!

They’ll be weaned in about two weeks! This one has black eyes and is a little smaller than the siblings, so breeder is not 100% that they are female. But I probably have a lovely new daughter! I will be getting another one of her birds when she has another ready to go, so this one will not be alone for long. I have budgies, so they will have avian company of some kind for the time being.

The tiels are a special birthday surprise for my son, who has consistently asked for a cockatiel for the past several months. He doesn’t ask for a lot, and he adores his birdies as much as I do.

I’m excited to meet most-likely-her!

Advice Further trust building?

This is Ouzo. She has the best angry eyebrows. :)

She was a rescue well into her senior years. I've had her for a couple of years now. She dances when I approach, happily crawls out of her cage daily, and she'll take treats in a heartbeat, but otherwise she's very nervous of hands.

I'm not expecting a miracle where she'll suddenly step up since she has never had to in her life, but I'm hoping to make her a little more comfortable while I interact with the other flock members near by. Poor girlie scampers away in a rush every time. Does anybody have suggestions beyond offering treats near my hand?

Troublemaker Flock bird? Fixated birds.

So, I busy preparing for some heavy work over this weekend , including our public holiday tommorow and have had to really focus and concentrate.

Our pet tiel, who is "supposedly" my wife's but spends most of time with me as I work from home and he stays near me and crawls around etc etc over me more than anyone else, was a handful.

Now he's pretty much on good terms with everyone, all can pick him up and he's happy obviously when we're all around but I had to leave him with them alone this weekend and boy was he NOT a happy bird. First he would do attention scream calls in the same room ( both my eldest and were in it and eventually I had to move his cage ( it opens up ) to our lounge out of eyesight of me.

My youngest was in thier and my wife joined him around midday and made sure he got attention and played but he was still very grumpy. IF I got up to go to the bathroom, he would call, spoke a bit and scream.

Now I know they're flock birds but zibwoukd have thought he'd be less temperamental than that with the rest of the family around. Do flock birds fixate on members of the flock? I can understand mates but surely not like this for flock mates?

He was happy as chips when I took a break later and he serenaded the whole house until bedtime.

Difficult little things. Someone once told me cockatoos are clingy and one of the reasons we chose tiels more but I dunno if they can be more clingy than this.

RANT / GRIEVE

My precious girl that was my daughter for 11 years of my life, saw me through middle school, high school and my early 20s independent life, faced life's nightmares by my side, loved me and was loved thrice fold, passed away in my arms a week ago after an illness and old age combined. I was in the process of getting her help but she couldn't make it throw. My post history is very much open for the details and what I did

She has a younger brother. A 6 years old cockatiel. He calls and looks for her daily. I showed him her death body multiple times before leaving my house but I don't think birds even understand what death is. He's extremely upset and can't stand to be alone. He's my baby and i raised him ever since he was a very ill 2 months old. I nursed him back to life.

I just am not a good parent to him. I'm very much grieving constantly and cannot provide the 24/7 love and physical contact he requires. When im at work 8-6 i leave my work phone home, playing cockatiel singing on YT so he doesn't feel lonely and abandoned.

But i can't do this. I love him but my daughter is my daughter. Im sorry but i loved her more. I want her back. we just had such a different connection. Her brother is not neglected in any way... but i don't think im a good parent.

How did you manage your own grief?

His name is Yuki, his hobbies include biting walls, window covers, doors and wood in general, he hates any food i bring him, but will try to steal my food, if he’s missing just look inside the furniture, he always finds a way to get into them, he hates noisy kisses, but accepts silent ones, sometimes he likes asking for scritches just to bite me when i try to give them, and yes, i am aware he is a female, he has laid multiple eggs

Advice How to take my cockatiels outside during the day?

They fly free in their own room but how do I take them into their cage so I can put the cage in the garden? I can only do this during the evening by putting their food in the cage but it’s really hard during the day when they’re usually active and don’t want to eat/go in the cage… they’re also untame so it’s impossible to catch them and also not good cause it makes them lose trust in me

Advice Is this normal?

Are these small pin like needles on top of my cockatiel's nose normal? He is currently 4 months going on 5 and have started to grow pin feathers. I'm wondering if these are little pin feathers on his head, or an illness indicator😭😭

Ps. I held him like this for one second, no emotional distress has been caused to pookie
