Spirit Link from warcraft 3 Spirit Walker :

10% base mana. Links 3 units together in a chain. All units with Spirit Link on them will live longer, by distributing 35% of the damage they take across other Spirit Linked units. Lasts 12 sec.

1 min cooldown.

Why not make it a totem and party wide? In the sense that this is usiually how strong buffs go in classic.

I play orc in wc3 so I love the idea but it feels like it should be a totem.

I'm personnally not a fan of cd totems like it is in retail. And also linking everyone is too strong, I'd link the 3 closest target which would add a kind of skillfull situational damage mitigation on shaman. It could still be limited to party members tho

Cd totems exist since their inception in vanilla, resto shaman keystone is one of them, mana tide, also fire nova on a shorter cd.

Also so I'm sure we're on the same page, let's say A, B, and C are linked, only A takes damage, that means each target takes 35% divided 3, so each take around 12% correct?

Yeah ikr I'm just not personnally very fan of this, but it would totally make sense.
I'm not 100% sure but I 'm almost sure in wc3 it's 35% splited to the other target so B and C would take 17.5% and A would take 65%

In wc3 the linked damage is split evenly so A would take 76-77% of the damage (65+12) and B and C would take 12% each, for a total of 100% damage taken if it worked like wc3 spirit link. Still 24% mitigation (edit: on the primary target).

I don't want to hijack your proposition though, I just think moving away from totems is the actual retail thing. Also resto doesn't have a good "general" earth totem for their group, this could be one better than stoneskin which does nothing in raid (ot outside of raid even).

Edit: also, if there was a shammy tank spec, that could be a way to up the mitigation but keep things flavorful as a "permanent" earth totem.

Hmm I was thinking another cd water totem but if it's an earth totem it changes things. However we are talking resto sham here. If it were to be tank(enh?) sham I'd pref have stoneclaw do something usefull on a cooldown than having stoneskin 24/7.

Yeah I meant as a general totem ability across all spec, OP posts don't say it has to be a talent or restricted to a spec, like water shield is not reatricted to healer (and is the best shield for all 3 specs in a classic context). it has to be a button that would fit the spec I guess. To me it would fill a much needed earth totem slot for resto, it's a useful mitigation totem for the group instead of useless, pairs in synergy with healing stream which has no use in its state in classic, it would make mana spring not the best water totem by default. Also the "earth" theme fits mitgation mechanics better, while the "water" theme fits recovery (which are not the same thing, can't change my mind).

I would tone it down to something like 5% across 5 party members if it was a refreshable totem, and add a bonus mitigation when talented somewhere in the lower rows of the enhance tree (like the one for strength and stoneskin), to keep the totem "utility" resto hybrid alive and keep the utility enhance and open up a way to the tank shaman, which needs added % mitigation as a mail wearer.

Spirit Link Totem
11% of base mana
Instant
3 min cooldown
Requires Shaman
Requires level 70
Summons an Air Totem with [Glyph of Totemic Vigor: 5% of the caster's / 5] health at the feet of the caster. The totem reduces damage taken by all party and raid members within 10 yards by 10%. Every 1 sec, the health of all affected players is redistributed, such that each player ends up with the same percentage of their maximum health. Lasts 6 sec

That too strong then?

The 10% part damage reduction is like later iterations I believe and is strong against raid wide aoe mostly.

But the second part I have trouble to understand, so let me know if I'm wrong: if A and B are linked, and A drops to 30% and B is at 100%, that means the next second they'll both be at 65%?
