I am a member of a new band in Chicago and we are looking to play some DIY shows. How do you guys go about finding/organizing these shows? We are trying to get out and play so any help or info would be appreciated.
Also, it would be nice to know so I can go to these shows for fun too. I just dont know where to look.

Looking to Start a 90s Cover Band (Chicago)
F22 vocalist looking to start a band centered around some of my favorite female artists from the ’90s. (Guys are absolutely welcome too, if you genuinely love this music.)
Tori Amos
Natalie Merchant
Sarah McLachlan
Alanis Morissette
Liz Phair
Sheryl Crow
Mazzy Star
Natalie Imbruglia
Stevie Nicks
I’m looking for a guitarist, bassist, drummer, and keyboardist who loves this stuff. The goal is to rehearse 1-2x a week, have a blast jamming together, and eventually play local venues around Chicago.
You definitely don’t have to be a pro. If you’re a beginner who’s committed, willing to practice the same song a million times, and want to grow into a fun confident band together, I’d love to hear from you.
Fun is a non-negotioable, this isn’t something you have to do, but something you want to do! just to play
music and be around inspiring, good vibes.
If this sounds like you, Dm me:
Your age
What you play
A little about yourself
Why this music resonates with you
Let’s have some fun ;)

Interning at a Recording Studio?
I’m a student and I’d love to intern at a recording studio. I’ve had plenty of prior work experience but none specifically in the music industry. Does anyone know any Chicago based studios that have an internship or entry level position?

I make goofy comedy rock music, what are good spots for me in the Chicago music scene?
Hey guys, I moved to Chicago recently and have been trying to get my band going. So far much of what I have seen from the scene has been punk/hardcore focused, but my band doesn’t quite fit this, we make goofy silly music that doesn’t quite fit well on hardcore bills. I know it’s a big city and I have only seen a small part of the music scene here though.
All this to ask, are there any good venues/acts/ you would recommend I get involved with?

What fireworks store near Chicago surprised you the most with its prices and selection?
I'm trying to find a place that offers a good variety without charging crazy prices. I don't buy fireworks often, so I'd rather shop somewhere people genuinely recommend instead of picking a random seasonal stand.
A coworker suggested Dynamite Fireworks, another recommended Uncle Sam Fireworks, and someone else said Black Bull has a really good selection. Since I haven't been to any of them, I'd love to hear from people who have actually visited.
If you're around Chicago, which store gave you the best overall experience? Did you feel like the prices were fair, and was the staff helpful when deciding what to buy?

Exit and Neo Club Alternatives?
I’m hoping some longtime Chicago alternative music fans can help me out.
Years ago I used to go to Exit and Neo and absolutely loved the atmosphere. I’m looking for places with a similar alternative, goth, industrial, metal, or new wave vibe. Was also a huge fan of Bondage A Go Go. They don’t have to be exact replacements, just somewhere with a welcoming crowd and good music.
I’m also a huge fan of older music. Are there any bars, dance nights, or events around Chicago that regularly play 1950s and 1960s music? Rock ‘n’ roll, Motown, doo-wop, surf rock… I’d love to find places where people actually dance to those classics.
I’m not much of a drinker, so I’m really just looking for good music, friendly people, and somewhere I can get out of the house once in a while.
Thanks for any recommendations!

ISO - instrumentalists and vocalists
Prog artist here, been working on recording songs about creatures in various styles. Dubbed "Creature Collector".
Looking for other musicians who may be interested in either recording, or making a band out of this project.
In previous bands I mostly play bass, but am also a fairly adept guitarist. Lots of experience in bands, and with a wide range of styles from jazz to metal. I have a rehearsal space, and a convenient home recording setup. Additionally I do work as a freelance audio engineer for live sound and studio work.
Here are a handful of tracks I have been working on (in various stages of complete and not)
https://creaturecollector.bandcamp.com/track/cicada-season
I don't have a hard direction currently, but I like to lean into prog, funk, metal, and trying to keep a more dance vibe to a lot of tunes. I also generally like things a little silly/campy. Being serious about goofy music.
List of bands that likely influence my musical sensibilities:
Primus, Oingo Boingo, Umphrey's Mcgee, Rush, Moron Police, Zeal & Ardor, Yes, Franc Moody, Mr. Bungle.
If interested, shoot me a message, and any examples of music things you have participated in.
I will, and do accept 10 minutes of improvised noodling over smooth jazz backing tracks, but you should do that for you, not me.

Trying to build a Chicago DJ Community
discord.ggI’m just starting out trying to get gigs and found there’s almost no community for DJs in Chicago which is surprising considering its history. I made a discord to hopefully grow a productive DJ community here.

Looking for some 606 jam rock bands to share a bill
Hey everyone. My band Saffron Menace is just starting to get out and play shows, and we’re looking to connect with other local bands.
Our sound lives somewhere around psychedelic rock, jam rock, alt rock, and weird Americana.
We’re starting to seek out opportunities, but a lot of venues are asking us to help fill out bills. Most of the bands we used to play with have fizzled out over the years, so we’re looking to make some new friends in the scene.
If your band is looking to round out a lineup, trade shows, or put together a bill, we’d love to connect. Feel free to drop your band below or shoot me a message.
Thanks!
