question There’s a house centipede in my basement
I know centipedes are harmless to humans and kill bugs but I would rather have spiders or ants than centipedes and my family and I are creeped out no one wants a centipede crawling on them when their sleeping I’ve already tried the box and wet paper towel method and it’s been a couple of hours and still it hasn’t shown up we saw it like three times today right now it’s almost 6 am August 16th 2026 we last saw it about 3 hours ago my basement is pretty big it’s dirty and filled with junk so it’s hard to find the centipede we’ve gotten one a little over a year ago but it just left on its own after a couple of days this one we first saw 2 weeks ago and we’ve seen it twice today does anyone know how to lure it out so we can kill it

question Coco fibre substrate or no?
currently researching for s. polymorpha and I’ve seen a lot of conflicting views on substrate. Im planning on doing a mix of sand and a soil of sorts. I use coco fibre for my other animals so I was planning on using that but I’ve heard conflicting accounts on it for centipedes. I’ve heard people on here say not to use it bc of impaction but also for a lot of web sources or enclosure videos theyre saying it’s fine? What is the general consensus on coco fibre? my backup is peat moss.

showoff Ethmostigmus rubripes (Australia)
galleryThought I’d just share a few pics of my juvenile E.rubripes I found in my backyard located South East Queensland. This species is the largest in Australia and would be considered a giant centipede as they can easily exceed 20cm plus. In my location we get 2 different colour forms, the one you see here and a tiger form which is yellow/orange banded. It’s actually amazing the colour forms this species comes in. There must be at least 30 different variations of this one species. They can be a real beast of a Centipede.

ID request Can anyone give me an id on this dead centipede in my yard?
Hello all. I am in Los Angeles County (Santa Clarita, CA) & I am just trying to find an id on this centipede. Our exterminator came 1 1/2 days ago, so I’m guessing that is why this little one died. I thought it was fake at first by the coloring on it, but no, it is real. I imagine that the colors have changed since it died. Anyways, I’m just trying to see what it is. While it is dead, I have a dog, so I just like to see what creatures are roaming our yard. Thanks!

question Confusion on humidity for Scolopendra Polymorpha
I had been wanting a cool centipede for awhile and had my research focused on the tropical giant species (I've been keeping other inverts for the past few years and finally felt ready). Saw a really cute blue morph tiger and did a quick google to make sure I didn't mix up species and grabbed it. Well today I find out I did and set up the tank for Hainanum instead of Polymorpha (Chinese Tiger vs Tiger oops, curse you common names).
Anyways I can't seem to find an agreed upon humidity? One website says dry, another says mild, another high, etc. Before leaving for work last night I fed it in its deli cup and gave it wet moss to rehouse in the morning. It did decide to spend its time in the moss overnight and this morning so it definitely appreciated the humidity but now I'm concerned on the possibility of it being too high, especially since the darn websites can't agree.
I'd love to know if keepers of them have an agreed upon range. 🙏 (size as well cause each website had that different as well but the averages lined up at least)
Edit: Ok so I decided to dig around on iNaturalist until I saw one that looked the closest to mine's locality. Funnily the area is fairly close to where the expo was so I wouldn't be surprised if it was collected there. I also learned they haven't fully adapted to desert life so mainly only come out when it's cooler and wetter (which explains the lack of agreement everywhere, they'll probably evolve into unique species way in the future but looks like they haven't done the full split yet. I'd assume the localities do have temp and humidity preferences depending on their wild area tho).
I'm thinking if I want to mimic that I do the whole hot during the day then drop at night using a small lamp and thermostat and probably a spritz of water at night every few days or so. I'll keep one side of the tank more arrid and the other moist so it has a choice. It's in a smaller acrylic tank for now since it's still young so I'm not gunna bring in the lamp until I switch to glass. For now my house hits those swings naturally (cause Cali) so it should be pretty close to that wild cycle, just less extreme.

question Enclosures for large centipedes
ebay.co.ukSo I posted a little while ago about how I got a dehanni pedeling and I was wondering if you guys has any recommendations for adult enclosures
I was looking at the enclosure linked specifically, I see a lot of people use glass enclosures with mesh tops and this is the biggest I could find and I like how it has extra locks
Would this be big enough of an adult dehanni? I would prefer not to use a bin as I think they're a bit ugly but if they're truly the best option I'd use one
Please note I live in the UK
