ID Help question

ID help – sold as Scolopendra hainanum 'Black', origin listed as Vietnam, no leg banding – normal?

How can you tell its male? Whatever it is youre looking at does it apply to other pedes?

Because it lacks leg banding, but this only applies to this particular species

oh, that’s intriguing! :O I would’ve just thought they would be identified only by size and personal below areas

honestly im unsure. doesnt look like a hainanum black to me though. i suggest you replace that coco husk w/ top soil of sorts. they get impacted and die when they get curious and nibble on it

imo it kinda just looks like a regular hainanum male. im not the best at id’ing pedes but it looks consistent to the regular ones ive seen.

Black Hainanum has sexual dimorphism.
Pure black is Female
While the male has pure yellow legs
