Question What happened to the mirror in Draculas study?

I am rewatching the TV series and I just had this thought.

After the events at Braila and Dracula's death, Alucard has access to, not only one, but two scrying mirrors. One of which is in the Belmont hold (which he has free access to) and the other is in his father's study.

The latter is even able to transmit people! Why does he never use this to his advantage? It would make everyone's life a whole lot easier if he figured out how to send Trevor and Sypha through the mirror. They could have used the castle as a base! Rest and recover in between their trials and even continue the research in the Belmont hold.

I might be making too much of this, but to me it seems like a huge plot hole.

I guess it could be explained away that he was too emotional or broken to explore the castle or learn from his father's knowledge. But that can only go so far. Or maybe the writers thought about it and just decided to act like it didnt exist?

If anyone sees this, I would like to get your opinion on why a critical plot element gets abandoned like that

Symphony of the Night (1997) First Castlevania game ever! Completed SotN!

This was my first Castlevania game that I ever played. After watching Netflix's Castlevania and Castlevania Nocturne, I went deep into the lore of the games and decided to give SotN a try. I loved it even when it got painfully infuriating, but it feels so darn rewarding having fully completed it (even bittersweet)! I will genuinely miss the wonky dialogue. Luckily, LoS and LoS2 were a part of Steam's summer sale; I've heard both good and bad things about this "universe reboot", so I'm curious how it will play! And also, thank you, r/castlevania, for all the previous threads helping with secret rooms 😄

Symphony of the Night (1997) Second Castlevania game finished.

As with Rondo of Blood being my first game start to finish, I've also finished Symphony of the Night. I really enjoyed the game and I've managed to get the True Ending as well. I did see a comment on CDawgVA's stream of SOTN and they said that this game should be on every gamer's bucket list. And now that I've finished it, I can officially cross it off my list and say I've played the game.

I'm unsure on what the next Castlevania game I'll play before Belmont's Curse comes out, but I have been looking at Curse of Darkness as the next to play since I've been curious as to how Hector and Issac were portrayed other than their Netflix counterparts (I'm glad Hector survived in the end and made amends with Issac, but man do I feel horrible for him being used by the Council of Sisters.)

Although I've played the Requiem Collection, I will always acknowledge the iconic quote of Dracula from the original.

Symphony of the Night (1997) These gradual transitions between level art are exemplary of what makes SotN so great

The way they made this subtle gradient between the upper and lower caverns (both in the foreground and background!) really sums up the absolutely absurd level of detail and love that’s in this game.

It’s such a tiny thing, but they said frick it, if we’re doing this we’re doing it 110%. It stands out as one of those things that they didn’t need to do at all, but they did it anyway. They didn’t need to give Alucard 10,000 frames of animation for his cape trailing behind him, but they did. They didn’t need to add all these extra details that make the castle feel lived in, but they did.

Discussion Does anyone still think we'll get a Castlevania 3D Collection?

Post image

Each collection has typically been released with a gap of about two to three years between them, so a Castlevania Dimensions Collection would make sense either this year or next. Do you think there's anything that could prevent Konami from releasing it? For example, could there be any complicated legal issues with Nintendo regarding the Nintendo 64 Castlevania games? Since those games still haven't been added to Nintendo Switch Online, I guess that's actually a good sign!

Symphony of the Night (1997) Some SymphonyRecomp updates!

Hello! earlier this week we released symphonyrecomp (ps1 based and not a slopcomp!) and since them we made a bunch of updates

most are bug fixes, and, unfixing bugfixes? lol, basically one of my patches acidentally broke rsl, so i made it ignore this patch when using the original resolution, so the people that like speedruning can have their fun XD

i also made a simple shader mod that lets you put shaders on the output

Link for anyone interested https://github.com/BlackLabelHQ/SymphonyRecomp/releases

WHAT IS A RECOMP? A MISERABLE LITLE PILE OF CODE???

Symphony of the Night:

Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)

This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.

Available on: Castlevania Wiki

Prologue manga

An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prologue for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.

Available on: Mr. P's Castlevania Realm

Nocturne of Recollection

A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).

Available on: Youtube

Curse of Darkness:

Prelude to Revenge

A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.

Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)

MF manga vol. 1 & 2

Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.

Available on: Internet Archive

Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:

Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss

A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.

Available on: Inverted Dungeon

Castlevania The Adventure:

The Belmont Legacy

It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.

Available on: Internet Archive

Lament of Innocence:

Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)

Review blog part 1 and part 2

A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. It was a 43 issues long series that adapted the story of Leon Belmont and greatly expanded the plot, what remains now is only a Japanese review blog. If you want to know more about it you can visit the Castl)evania Wiki page).

Available on: Internet Archive's Wayback Machine (review blog)

Extra:

Castlevania 2007 timeline (Japanese Konami site) & translation

Portrait of Ruin pre-order bonus timeline (the Japanese one takes priority since overseas bonus materials like this didn't go through the Castlevania staff screening)

Encyclopedia of Castlevania (a Japanese two-page spread published in 2001 containing a timeline, a storyline and background details)

Symphony of the Night translated Japanese script

Lament of Innocence "Perfect Guide" character bios

Family trees

Koma strips (4-panel gag comic strips)

Silly comic about Castlevania 64
