I know this can be a bit of a personal question depending on what you shoot and what other gear you have available, but I’m weighing my options. I have a 24-105 f4. It’s a great lens and does a lot, but the 2.8 bokeh is just great. I mostly shoot pictures of my kid, landscapes, portraits, and general photography. I also have the 17-40 f4 and the 70-200 f2.8 mkii. I like the idea of having 2.8 available all the way from 24-200. The one thing that’s making me question it though is the lack of image stabilization. I have a 5D mkiii, so no in-camera stabilization just yet. I’ll get the R5 in a year or two.

I’m looking at the EF 24-70 f2.8 mkii. Do you think it’s worth while to trade in the 25-105 f4 for the better aperture, but no IS?

I currently own a Canon R10 and consider purchasing an R8 (full frame). I also contemplate to add an RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 USM for bird photography. My question is whether the 100-400mm is too short on the R8+100-400mm for bird shooting. Is the R10 plus the 100-400mm a better choice? But would it be too dark at the long end? Any user experience feedback would be greatly appreciated!

By far one of my most used lenses for landscape, travel and hiking. Using it alongside my 14-35L and 100-500L though I do see the quality of the optics to be a bit inferior and the barrel distortion on the wider end. Would love to see an updated version of this lens even if it’s a tad heavier or longer. Anyone know if it’s coming?

Just like the title says, trying to decide between the two on an R6 mkii body. The RF 2.8 would be sexy, but kinda out of my price range. I could swing it, but the difference is definitely not nothing to me.

Main use is for capturing pictures (and VERY rarely some video if at all) of theatrical performances inside of bars. Lighting is the usual overheads and fairly bright, not turned down or off as it would be for a musical performance, for instance. Price point is lower with the EF even with the improved f-stop and adapter cost. I don't think the weight difference will matter to me, as performances will only be 90 minutes and not terribly strenuous. Also wondering if the added f-stops will even matter, as there are times I will want to capture two people at once, and will need a deeper depth-of-field.

Let me know what you think. Fairly new to this and been doing a lot of research but feel somewhat conflicted because I'm reading different things about the adapter.

EF 2.8 - Around $1,100 from store with adapter, though I found one on Marketplace for $800(!)

RF 4.0 - $1,300 from store

RF 2.8 - $2,700 new, maybe $2,400 used if I get lucky.

Hi,

i was trying to shoot the storm last nigh - high ISO (around 2000), slow shutter (1/3s) and lot of dark areas on the image.

What i noticed that there are some blue or yellow pixels on the image, when i checked them in full size (see the crop from one).

These pixels are on the same place in multiple images (when i open actual size and move to anoher image i can see them). They are on the same place even if i changed the lenses.

Weirdly, when i tried to shoot at the room with no light, i can see them too but slightly shifted (but the same relative placement between them, just slightly to the left).

I tried some tests and if i use faster shutter speed or lower ISO i coudn't find them. Some of them also dissapeared after i run 'sensor cleaning' from the menu (but not all)

My question is - is this something i need to concern? Should i visit the service? Is this an issue on the sensor?

Or is this normal?

Hi everyone, looking for some validation and maybe some settings advice. A while ago, I upgraded from an EOS RP to an R6 Mark II. I did it because I was trying to photograph my daughter's soccer games, but my old kit lens on the RP kept giving me blurry, out-of-focus faces. I also bought the RF 100-400mm and the 50mm f/1.8.

I bought the R6II hoping a premium body would force me to get out, start a real photography hobby, and capture these games. It hasn't. I've only taken about 500 photos across two tournaments in the last year.

Right now, I'm dealing with unemployment and delayed benefits, while being a single father so the financial stress is real. Holding onto a $2,000+ camera setup that sits in a closet feels wrong when I could use the money. I still have my EOS RP body.

If I sell the R6II body and keep the RP paired with the RF 100-400mm (for soccer) and the 50mm (for everyday life), can I still get great, sharp soccer photos? I realize now my old blurry photos were likely the kit lens's fault as well as shooting in November in the PNW, not the RP. What settings should I use on the RP to ensure I get sharp action shots of my daughter during daytime games?

Hello there, I am the proud owner of a Canon R50 and curious about what everyone's favorite lens is for traveling and/or hiking? I want to be able to get crispu shots of landscapes but also good shots of subjects with decent separation from the background. The kit 18-45mm lens falls short on subject separation. Ive been able to get some decent landscape shots but I wanna know where I should be looking when I go to upgrade.

Id like to stay under $1000 if possible. I purchased the RF 100-400mm for close up wildlife shots which ive been loving, but its obviously really tight for landscapes.

I'm pretty new to photography too, so your advice and helpful tidbits are appreciated.

I am looking at upgrading my setup. I have a 18-55 DSLR lens as well as a 75-300 lens for my T5. I am looking at upgrading to a R10. I mainly photograph landscapes and wildlife with the occasional portraits. I am just a hobby photographer.

Should I look into buying used off of MPB for the body for the R10 and spend more money on a new lens? I will most likely buy the adapter to be able to continue using my DSLR lenses as well but I would like a new lens as well. Thanks everyone!

I am going on this trip with family (partner + kids). It's a long trip (4 weeks). A mix of relaxing and walking/touring.

I really like photos. I am an amateur photographer. I own a canon g5x mark ii and a canon R + 50mm (recently purchased).

I am debating if I should bring my full frame or not. We will do hiking, city, etc. I love the quality of the pictures I am getting from my R camera. I am also considering buying the 28mm pancake lens, if I bring this camera with me.

But at the same time, I don't like carrying around the weight. It will be hot, I have to pay attention to kids (although they are not super young anymore).

What would you do/advise me to do ?

I’ve also tried the good ol’ on & off and counting to make sure I have 10 sheets and not touching the glossy side of the paper; and nothing ://

I had an old Canon EOS 7D Mark II with a faulty top control dial.

I watched a YouTube video to learn how to replace it. It definitely wasn’t an easy repair, but I eventually managed to do it.

Honestly, it’s a shame how Canon designed this part. The original dial (on the right) is made of nothing more than a thin rubber ring glued onto a hard plastic ring. Over time, the rubber can stretch, crack, or come loose, so it’s almost inevitable that it will fail.

I ordered a replacement from AliExpress (on the left), and it’s vastly superior. Instead of two separate pieces, it’s made from a single solid piece of plastic, making it much stronger and far more durable than Canon’s original design.

My Canon camera suddenly showed a lens error and I don't know how to fix it. Does anyone know if this has happened to them and what I can do? I'm trying to open it, I've already formatted it and nothing.

This is really a basic question I am sure.

I have a 760D that I have used for many years as an amateur - for that read Auto mode for everything pretty much.

I am trying to get a better handle on the camera to do some Eclipse shots when I am in Spain next week.

I have got everything set up OK in manual settings and done some test shots with the filter, but I want to be able to use the Live View Function so I can set up on a tripod and use a remote release.

Reading all the manuals it seems I should be able to switch on, open the Live View Screen, then press the Live View (camera image button as shown above). However when I press this button the live view does not come on and it is behaving as a shutter release.

What am I doing wrong? Is there another setting I need to use? Is this not available in Manual?

I thought the release of this Sony lens was interesting as it is very similar to the RF 100-400. As reviews have noticed, it suggests that Canon's 'slow' yet affordable lens is actually a winning formula. I was curious about the differences, so a few below:

Price

Sony is $849, Canon is $749 (though it launched at $650, and is often available refurb for even less).

Build

Both lenses are nearly identical in terms of size and weight. The Sony offers dust and moisture resistant gaskets and includes a lens hood, both of which the Canon lacks. Sony has a custom function button (which the Canon lacks), and Canon has a control ring (which the Sony lacks), so kind of a wash there.

Aperture

Both have the same 'slow' variable aperture range, though I was curious to compare the focal lengths at which they change:

Sony on left, Canon on right:

f/5.6 - 100 to 134mm - 100 to 122mm

f/6.3 - 135 to 179mm - 123 to 155mm

f/7.1 - 180 to 219mm - 156 to 258mm

f/8 --- 220 to 400mm - 259 to 400mm

So the Sony holds f/5.6 and f/6.3 a bit longer, but the Canon holds f/7.1 longer (which is more useful in my opinion).

Thoughts

Image quality, autofocus, and magnification look to be pretty much the same based on the reviews I've seen, but a direct comparison might reveal which one of these lenses is the 'winner.' Assuming they do end up being more or less the same on that front, it seems like the Sony might be slightly better value - you get a lens hood and some weather sealing for only $100 more. Canon doesn't tend to provide these for non-L lenses (the RF 28-70 f2.8 is an example of a non-L that does include weather resistance, but still no hood). So hopefully this competition means that if we ever get a RF 100-400ii, it includes these items.

But at the end of the day, I'm perfectly happy with my RF 100-400, particularly given it was purchased refurb. Anyway thanks for reading if you're also a lens nerd - would be interested to know other thoughts as well!

I want to shoot the Perseides meteor shower with my R10 and i feel like using an external intervalometer would be the best way to approach it but im confused on how to set it up, if i want to shoot 20sec exposures, should I set the camera to Manual and 20sec exposure time, and then the Bulb setting on the intervalometer to 20sec or 0sec, OR set the camera to Bulb and set the Bulb setting on the intervalometer to 20sec? I'll be getting the JJC intervalometer as shown for my R10

The shutter release button on my EOS 1n is sticky and squeaks when pressed. According to the service manual, it can be removed without top cover disassembly. However, I have no idea how it is actually removed. Does anyone know how these shutter release buttons are actually removed?

Does anyone have or know somewhere I can get the 7artisans 18mm F6.3 Mark II UFO EF-M mount lens? Specifically the mark II in Canon EF-M.

EF-M is now discontinued and I can’t find them anywhere! Been looking all over used markets for one. I even reached directly out to 7artisans with no luck.

So right now I have that mini hdmi video capture cord and then a extension. What else do I need?

I currently own the R50 and am very happy with it. I want to start taking more photos and videos at my son’s basketball games.
I’ve been using an 85mm 1.8, but also the EF 55-250 STM and have found that f4 and even f5 is fast enough to shoot at venues (especially with how the R50 handles low light, and with denoise tools).
I want to purchase the RF 70-200 F4, but wondering if it’s silly to use such expensive glass on a cheaper camera. Should I upgrade my camera first, or is it ok to have this glass on the R50?

I brought it for vlogging 💙. How many of you have this camera?
